What would you do if you owned no guns, had 20K to spend, and a deadline to spend every cent in a month (custom orders are OK)...on guns... only guns - no accesories, ammo, gunsite training, or whatever. No need to mention brands...just pick a category that would best descibe your plan.
Thse are the guns you will die with -no selling A to buy B.

Would you:
A. Buy one collectors item.

B. Buy 1-5 high dollar pieces.

C. Buy a mix of shooters and a high dollar looker or two - 1-10 total.

D. Buy 10-30 moderately price 'tools' to meet all your needs.

E. Buy 100+ used and surplus guns that you could get for about $200 bucks apiece.

Somewhere between C. and D.

And if the gun "Fairy"took all my guns and left me only $20K, I would be lookin for a Fairy!

A.

I'll try to find a MG42 or Thompson SMG for 20k.

Then I'll hunt down that fairy and make him pay for his nefarious ways. :neener:

I am thinking C would be the answer for me. I would probably spend 7K on 3 high dollar handguns, and the other 13K I would buy some very good pistols and a shotgun or two.

I'd get myself a transferable MP-5, a Beretta 92FS, a Remington 870 and an M1 Garand. Then I'd get a thousand rounds of ammo for each. This should leave me with around $2900, which I would plop firmly in my checking account.

I think I would get a registered M-16, then a maybe $1000-$1200 for an AR-15 set up for long range shooting, another $1500 or so for a "sniper" type bolt action, an early glock 20 with no finger grooves with 21 top half, a Sig 220 and 226 (used), then a CZ-452 lux. Whatever was leftover would go to C&R rifles and a CMP garand.

K-31
A few 10/22 rifles
AK rifles of different makes
FALs of different makes
A few CETME and G3 rifles
M1 Garand and carbine.
50 BMG rifle of some kind
Any other surplus gun I can get my hand on.

Somewhere between B, C and D for me. There is NOTHING like a full on custom built by a true master, the guys that have never owned one will never know how good it really can be. I would need to replace a master built IPSC blaster, a good custom carry gun and that would just about cover the custom guns. The rest would buy me another SuperX2 to cover all of my shotgun needs, a good rifle to do anything I need a rifle for, and the balance on old blued S&W revolvers. I have needs other than old blued S&W revolvers, but that is where my heart is when it comes to firearms.

Things like this remind me that I have a lot of fluff in my gun collection/accumulation. It darn sure is nice to have a problem as serious as 'fluff' in a gun collection.......

BAT action, Hart Barrel, Kelbly Stock, Jewell Trigger, Leupold and Billy Stevens. All told, probably about $4K.

Nice over/under shotgun $2K

2 decent 1911s $2K

Shorty AR and varmint AR $2K

Mac 11/9 $3K

Savage BVSS-S in .223, .22-250, and 7 rem mag, with fair optics $3K

Small frame short barrel .357

Small frame short barrel .44 special

Blow the rest on some SKSs and milsurp.

Survey Says:

I go for option C. For twenty grand I can get some nice peices to satisfy the "neat-o" factor and plenty of useful hard work stuff to keep me in business for a while. 20K can go far if you don't impulse buy and plan your purchases with some forethought.

I'd buy 118 Makarovs.:)

I go with D with no safe queens.
One nice 30.06 bolt action shooter.
A few .223 types.
A selection of rifles including M1 Garands and Carbines.
A selection of pistols including a couple Kimbers until I run out of money.

Kind of what I have now, but a smaller collection.

D for sure.
Probably closer to the 30 mark.

A coupla rifles in .223, .308, .30-06, .30-30, .22. robably get all of them for about 5 grand, maybe 6.

a coupla handguns in 9mm, 10mm, .40, .45, a Freedom Arms .454 Casull (or maybe a super redhawk...) a few Glocks, a bunch of Sigs (probably used police guns) if I bought about 10 handguns, that'd be about 10 grand, conservatively.

2 or three nice shotguns... An 870 for defense, a nice Ruger o/u or side-by-side, and an automatic of some sort.

The rest? Ammo and range time. Maybe a safe, if I have any left over...

I wonder how the age demographic affects these choices.

I'm 55 years old, more into semi-retirement pursuits and riding my Harley. I have a couple of high-end pistols and one great .44 Rem Mag, and an entire gun room of items from 30 years of collecting.

I told my wife that the first wealthy man with a moving van and about $15K can have the entire room if I can keep a pistol or two.

I'd get a second computer and another big screen TV and have a quiet little den. You spend the first half of your life acquiring things, and the second half trying to figure out what to do with them.

Buy a running .50 cal BMG machinegun for $20,000 and then sit and look at it because I don't have the $1,500 / minute to run it. :neener:

go to a third world country

and buy all the stuff i want from the black market:). ship it back, and use what money is left to replace my other guns.

unless you add a whole lot more, i am calling 911 and saying was robbed....

if i am gunless and i get 20 k to get me by
till insurance kicks in the rest,
then I buy four or five older colt Govt or commanders.
all would be used,
one for the bedroom, one for the belt,
one for the brief case and one for wife. 2500 to 3000

a 22 mk ll and a 10 22 400

a new vaquero in 45 colt and a 629 MG 1200

a Superposed LTRKSST 1400

model 99 savage in 300 savage 500

a couple of savage 110's in 223 and 22250 1000

a mini uzi with can. 6500

a couple of ar's m4gery and a A3 1500

a model 71 winchester for timber elk and moose. 1500

a 20 guage sxs 3000

if you ever went to a 3rd world country, you'd find more interesting things to do with the cash. the first ak-47 you bought would be all you'd need.

And if the gun "Fairy"took all my guns and left me only $20K, I would be lookin for a Fairy!

I'd buy a .308 PSS with Nightforce scope, a good 1911, and an AR-15. I'd load up with some good ammunition. Then I'd hunt that skinflint thieving fairy down and get at least thirty thousand bucks from him. Out of his hide, if necessary.

Now if I came into 20K and didn't have to go fairy hunting, I'd buy a transferable 1919 Browning beltfed.

Gun Fairy would be much better off to just take my guns and leave me with no money to hunt him.

20K will just handle young collectors or those who have been spending money on raising children and such. I've been buying guns with no regard to my means for nigh on thirty-five years. Gun poor.

One used single shot twelve gauge. One 12 gauge shell, #9 shot (it's a fairy). Walk to nearest library and google 'gun fairy'. Find address with mapquest. Buy bus ticket. Ignore odd looks as you sit angrily on the bus clutching your shotgun. Kick in fairy door or fairy house. Torture fairy until location of collection is known. Kill fairy.

I think I would be a "D" kind of guy. While I enjoy looking at works of art in the gun world. I found the few times I have owned one I soon lost interest because I could not really "use" it.

I like a gun I can use, so I would go more with ones I could carry and shoot everyday if I wanted too. Big dollar gun would be a really nice double rifle, but with only 20K may not be swing that. Even the good work guns run high dollar.

When the fairy took my guns, the insurance fairy only gave me $1k (about .25 on the $1). Fortunately the fairy took a bunch of stuff I didn't use upping it to $6K.
