Its kind of irritating to me but the sidearm Lt Horatio Caine (David Caruso's character in CSI:Miami) looks familiar but I can't ID it.

I think its some type of Beretta or H&K - anybody else who watches the show know? He seems to consistently carry the same piece (or at least have the same one available on the few times he's gotton into a shootout on the show).

Hmmm... I've only seen the gun a couple times, but don't remember what it is (if I even knew correctly to begin with).

But given all of the bad gun use and ludicrous topics that have anything to do with guns*, I don't watch anymore. Besides, the main guy bugs the hell outta me.

*My favorite one  was where the front air dam of a late 80's Camaro stops a bullet solidly enough to make it mushroom. Gimme a flippin break. (Just so you know, the front air dam is made out of ABS plastic or one of its counterparts. Pretty fragile. No match for a bullet.)

I'll second the Beretta Cougar. Can't tell more than that....

...I've been more interested in the guns she's carrying...

hehe, i feel the same way! It bothers me to no end when i see a gun in any movie/tv show that i cannot identify.

And oh baby, i wanna know what she is carrying too! Has to be in a thieh holster if she is wearing that dress. Think she'd mind if i looked up that dress to see her..ahem...gun?

Guns in CSI:Miami

Yeah, I thought it might have been a Cougar, but never got a good enough look at the profile to be sure. But the above posts have confirmed my thoughts.

As an aside, it IS true that half the fun of the show is watching the blonde ballistics expert :D

Hello from a fellow Galvestonian! Used to live a little bit west of the Flagship Hotel... Stewart's Landing apartments. They were brand new when we live there. What a blast from the past! Anyway...

I can't quite place it, but there's something I can't stand about David Caruso. Something like he's just too cool for school, but he's not. Linda Fiorentino is very high on my list of desired women so the movie Jade was very much a love/hate thing for me to watch. :p

To keep on topic, I can't recall ever noticing his gun though I've only watched a couple episodes. :(

Funny thing is the LT. of the Crime lab has been involved in TWO major shoot outs involving armored car robberies.

Gosh those lab boys do get into the action.

:D

Still, I like the show. A better example of gunplay/carrying occurred in the original series where Peterson gets caught in a potentially dangerous situation without a firearm. the show ends with him practicing at the range with a Glock.

Think about this carefully.

CSI Miami IS the Dukes of Hazard.

Then: Crazy red neck pretty boys romp through the swamp, having adventures, solving crimes, staying one step ahead of the idiot cops. Uncle Jessie presides to deal out nuggets of wisdom. Daisy provides... well lets just say short shorts were re-named in her honor.

Now: pretty boy cops chase redneck criminals, get in adventures, solve crimes. Uncle Horatio broods, then broods some more then says something that is supposed to sound profound. Cousin Cali plays with firearms and double entendres.

It's the same show.

:scrutiny:

That was an excellent episode. I about cheered when he picked up that Glock at the end.

Yeaj, I had to wonder at some of the irony there -TWO major shootouts both involving armoured car heists. At the beginning of last weeks epsiode I was wondering if I had caught a re-run.

Wonder why the Cougar was chosen as Horatio's sidearm? Is it THAT popular among LEO's of the plaincothes variety?

Anyways, best line from Cali so far: " Lt you are really underestimating my ability as a Southern woman to protect myself." That little smirk she always has and that southern drawl of hers drives me nuts (with or without a drawn firearm.)

I still think the best gunfight of either CSI was about 2 weeks ago on the Vegas version when a cop got caught in the midst of a late-night store holdup and dusted a couple of bad guys. Showed the virtues of hi-cap magazines

I used to watch Dukes of Hazzard religiously.

And I wore a Dukes of Hazzard T-shirt until it rotted off of my body in the third grade. :uhoh:

CSI episode

In which episode (or at least which season) did the Gil Grissom character go to the range at the end of the show? I usually watch CSI but must have missed that one.

Big difference b/t the shows....

Grissom is a scientist who just happens to work in a crime lab....

Cane is a cop who happens to know how to use a few test tubes...

I prefer Grissom's character.

Now, I'm hoping for a CSI: DALLAS very soon. Maybe Marg Helgenberger as the "pro from Dover" who takes charge of a crime lab & butts heads w/ a old-cowboy-type coroner (I'm thinking Keith Carradine...)

Sure beats another New York City(get-a-rope) show like CBS is talking about. There's already a CSI: NYC--it's called WITHOUT A TRACE...:banghead:

CSI: Miami Guns

Funny, but seeker_two kinda nailed it on the head. Now that I think about it, Grissom is a scientist doing crime work as aside and Caine is a cop moonlighting as a scientist. Good comparison.

Yeah, I like both shows and yeah I like Grissom's more "cerebral" character. But I guess I like my cops to sometimes to do an "in-your-face", "Last Man Standing"
confrontation between good and evil, which is why I give the nod to CSI:Miami.
Caine (however TV-Show/comic book it may be) can at least shoot well and hard

Anyways, best line from Cali so far

Actually, I think the best line from Cali was:

Horatio: "So what do you get when you have a six foot man with a 3 foot rifle?"

Cali: "Hot flashes, but that's just me.":D

And yes, she carries a LadySmith.

Don't think I've watched an episode all the way through - but have seen bits & pieces of several. The one time I saw the main character pull a gun it looked like a Beretta Cougar. Don't know what the blond female carries - but it's so big that it rides nearly up to her arm pit when wearing jeans & a tank top. And where did the main character get a Hummer (I mean the car)? Did the local PD find some dead doper in it and decieded to keep it? I remember one show where apparently one of the characters guns failed to work properly - looked like a CZ of some sort. The final scientific analysis was he hadn't cleaned it in about 5 years and the firing pin channel was stuffed full of crud. Then there was the episode where a cheap .22 revolver had such a sloppy cylinder that one round went through the barrel - and another just went off and went flying out of one of the cylinder holes.

Ummm - maybe I've watched more of this show than I thought. Or at least my eye caught something interesting while walking by the TV when it was on.

The one episode when the gun was featured was a heist of drugs from the CSI's when they were on their way to destroy them. The second CSI guy drew his HK USP and tried to fire but it didn't work. Turns out he never cleaned it , ever, and it failed him in the clutch. The buxom blond bought him a cleaning kit. Ain't she sweet.

speaking of Emily Proctor 'aka Kali Ducane'you can see "MORE" ofher in the 90's movie "Body Shots",,,,rrrrrrr:evil:

Emily Procter ("Calleigh Duquesne" on CSI)

her attitude towards guns:

Who’s Making Out?

To star in CSI: Miami as ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne, Emily Procter left her role in The West Wing as the Republican attorney who stirred up controversy for the Democratic Bartlett administration. As the roles might suggest, Procter is a study in contrasts: She can spend 10 minutes soberly explaining how researching that role transformed her views on guns in America and then, emerging from her trailer with her interviewer, gleefully announce to all nearby: “We made out!â€
Who knew that was even an option?

Before sharing such intimate (if fictional) aspects of her personal life with the show’s crew, Procter is all business. “If you had said to me a year ago, ‘You’re going to learn a lot of things about guns and be glad you did,’ I would’ve called you a liar,†she admits.

“When I did my {pro-gun} speech on West Wing about guns, it was very hard for me, because I believe we have a real gun problem. Now, I look at it and understand why people want to keep their guns. I like to shoot now; I want to get better.â€

When Procter says, “I don’t shoot today,†she doesn’t mean she’s not in any scenes. She means she’s not firing a weapon. “I think I’m shooting on Friday and on Monday. I’m shooting rifles in this episode, which I haven’t worked with so far.â€

She adds, “I used to be this person who wanted to collect all the guns, and the other day I was shooting at this target and did a nice job and thought, ‘Oh, I’m getting better – ooh, bad! Bad!’ †She playfully slaps her wrist at her politically incorrect faux pas.

Procter admits it was tough for her to leave The West Wing. “I was so lucky because I just liked the people a whole lot. I wasn’t sure lightning was going to strike twice, worrying: ‘I’m going to end up with a group of jerks.’ And I didn’t.Most of the time, you have to talk about people who can be kind of jerky.â€
