Has anyone changed their position on the 2A?

None of us can change human nature. Crazy people and evil people WILL hurt innocents. We need our right for self protection protected. Whether it be from a tyrannical government or someone kicking our door in. As others have said, the Second Amendment protects the rest of our liberties.

More to the point, what percentage of the American populace supported the Revolution against the British?

It wasn't very big... yet somehow they managed to humiliate the most sophisticated army of its time.
The Revolution would have failed if the French had not intervened on behalf of the Americans. The real battle that won the Revolution was the Battle of the Virginia Capes, when the French fleet prevented British supplies and reinforcements from reaching Cornwallis at Yorktown. Prior to that, the Continental Army had lost 3,000 troops -- most of its strength in the South -- in the mass surrender at the siege of Charleston. The vaunted number of 3% of the American population did not win the war against the British (and just as many Americans actually fought on the British side). The Revolution was actually our first civil war.

Had the Americans not performed on the battlefield, the French never would have intervened. Not to mention that there weren't a lot of French frigates sailing in the backwoods of the Carolinas, the real model for an insurgency, in intensity... and ruthlessness.

There was probably a time when I would have favored some restrictions, such as carry licensing and bans on firearms with full-auto capabilities. I just can't really remember it.

I have tried debating the subject numerous times with myself (debating two sides of an issue about which I've made it a point to be aware is something I consider myself good at) just to make sure I'm not missing anything. In the end, I come to pretty much two conclusions, one of which, on the surface, supports one side and one of which supports the other. I recognize that bans on certain types of firearms, and/or bans on certain "types" of potential buyers, have thwarted violence on more than one occasion. That's the "on the surface" point. However, the potential overall cost of infringement on the RKBA remains, as demonstrated by both history and current events, much higher, to the point of risking the liberty under which a free society is supposed to live. The loss of that liberty would result in far greater violence than any gun restriction has ever prevented.

That is speculation on your part, or whoever you acquired the information from.

My ideas have not changed in my 71 years of life here on this planet, I believe every God fearing man and woman have the right to bare arms, for there protection as well as the protection for there families as set forth in the 2ND Amendment to the Constitution, and quite frankly I see no reason for any law to restrict said God given rights. Further I've pretty much given up and trying to convince the liberal/progressive part of our population of the same.

My views were rather non-restrictive,,,at first.
Lotsa folks today use firearm's as nothing more than a 'male appendage' extension.
Makes responsible gun owners look bad,,,
Hard / impossible / (illegal?) to regulate/control responsibility.
Combine all that with the hate/division we see building every day, and the forecast calls for pain.
Is there an answer? All things considered,,,, probably not without somebody, somewhere losing something,,,

Indubitably.....it tis the Extension of a persons 'Will'............much like the noted appendage.

Shows you where the minds of the anti's are rooted. Freud opined that the fear of Weapons is a sign of sexual immaturity......

My father , a WWII veteran , witnessed some things first hand, a group of people were first disarmed for their own safety, then systematically rounded up and eliminated.
He told me that for a nation to be controlled they had to be disarmed...slaves can't own guns and men who are armed will fight for their freedom. He told me to never let the Second Amendment be abolished....there are men who would love to control the USA. Men like Adolph Hitler are still out there , they have an agenda and that agenda is to get Americans disarmed.
Don't fall for their rhetoric....Remember...Slaves can't be allowed to have guns .

God bless your father and all those that served with him.
Throughout history people have said "It can't happen here" the vast majority of them were wrong.
No, my views on the 2A have not changed. It's meaning and value have been quite clear to me for as long as I can remember.

We each have our own opinions. Not all will be the same, and certain things often mean more to one person than they do another.

While I like to shoot for sport/entertainment, it certainly doesn't define me, nor would it be TEOTWAWKI (to me) if the 2A was 'redefined' to 'add clarity' relative to the 'all or none' consensus some 2A folks seem to envision,,,,.

Those who would consider any 'redefining' of the 2A as TEOTWAWKI would certainly be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more stressed out over such an occurrence than I ever would be. Life is full of challenges, and what you choose to fret over is certainly your choice.

You're more than welcome to disagree. Even 'get ugly' if you feel you must.
Just my opinion, and yes, I vote.

Your entitled to your opinion, the 1A guarantees it. Of course the 2A protects the 1A and vice versa, at least until they are "redefined"

As those of the Left have become more shrill and more willing to propagandize and twist word meanings in their efforts to disarm honest citizens, my pro-2A stance has hardened.

I suggest reading the Preamble to the Bill of Rights, wherein it speaks to the purpose: Resist abuse of power by the State.

Then, see if you can find any--repeat, any--gun control law which has ever served to reduce the rate of violent crime where firearms are used. I've been seeking such examples for some forty-five years: To no avail. SFAIK, there are none.

How about if the 1st Amendment were "redefined" to:
  • forbid criticism of the President
  • mandate a state religion
  • require a Federal license to be a journalist

Yep. And sadly, it seems quite a few of our own ranks do not understand the duty to resist an overstepping power, whether it be state, federal or otherwise. Seems to me, too many have the want to give in which is exactly why we have the Supreme Court ruling from the bench among other things. Seems to me that people gave up a long time ago, hence the reason we find ourselves with such a mess today.

In another thread, people mentioned that the USSC has been making law. They are correct, they have, but that’s not how it’s supposed to be. People have let them get away with their nonsense too long. How does it feel to be ruled by a handful of people? Do you think it’s right? Do you think your vote could ever change the corruption that runs rampant right now? Me thinks we are all being played and until people wake up and realize that the rulers will continue to gain power nothing will change. Keep playing their game until you wake up one day and wonder how you became a slave.

my views in favor of the 2a are pretty much the same, but i’m much more unyielding in its defense in reply to america’s homegrown bolshevism that blossomed in the open with the 2008 election. i’m an absolutist for the entire the bill of rights and the 2a is my absolutely simple political litmus test. funny thing is i don’t even own any “assault rifles” or a single glock... regardless of how you choose to be peaceably armed you stand tall and free, once disarmed you and your grandchildren are doomed to forever bending the knee.
