I opened up my bathroom mirror last night looking for some Benadryl (my wife is allergic to grapes, but decided to try chicken marsala I made anyway, whoops!) and I realized I have a serious problem. There was a bottle of Hoppe's No. 9 on the top shelf, right next to all the more ordinary things in there. That wasn't the biggest problem, things get misplaced all the time. The problem is that it didn't look out of place at all to me. I didn't bat an eye at it and only later, back in the kitchen did I realize that I am storing Hoppe's in my bathroom with my vitamins and aspirin.

Is OK, you're among friends here.

My wife found a box of 10mm Silvertips in the pantry next to the cereal boxes once.

I have no idea why I put them there and don't remember doing it.

A little Hoppe's #9 behind the ear every morning. That's what the missus is doing to attract all the real men!

One time my best girl told me I had to move my .45 WWB from the counter if I expected to put the casserole dish I had in the oven in that spot.

It wasn't that I had 6 boxes of .45 on the kitchen counter that struck me, it was that boxes of ammo, guns, cleaning stuff are so ubiquitous around the house as to be a "ho-hum" topic.

I'm often reminded of the scene from Johnny Dangerously where the neighbor stops by to ask to borrow a cup of bullets. It wouldn't even seem strange to me.

Hoppes #9, at least the old stuff, does smell better than most colognes.

But, I do keep it in the gun cleaning supplies box.

At my house, cleaning supplies for the bathroom go under the counter, medicines go in the medicine cabinet. Tired people late at night, or folks with fevers could get confused.

Have you ever used shaving cream for toothpaste? Or vice versa?

Anyway, am thinking of giving a particular gent a new bottle of Hoppes #9 for his birthday, along with an offer to clean a couple of guns. Nothing like the smell of Hoppes and listening to my table-top tube radio, while cleaning my rifles....

I sometimes don't even see guns that are just lying around minding their own business.

One of my libbylefty neighbors came over one time and as soon as he walked in, said, "Oh! What's that?"

"What's what?"

He pointed. I looked, like maybe he was pointing at a rat or a snake or something, and didn't see anything.

"That, that. A gun."

And there it was, my evil black Taurus 92 clone in its evil black holster with an evil black magazine in the pouch and another evil black mag, pregnant with evil shiny brass cartridges showing out the top, sitting on my printer.

"Oh, sorry. Didn't put it away." I scooped up the hardware and got it out of sight.

It had been sitting there for almost a day, blending in with all the other litter and clutter of everyday living... a coffee cup here, a clipboard there, a stack of unopened bills over there...

Just minding its own business.

try to act surprised when your neighbor does an 'intervention' for you.

couple of years ago the 'honest polish cleaning lady' (says so right on her business card); she not speaking any english, her husband phones me one evening to ask that i please move the mosin next time she comes to clean. it had the bayonet on it and was standing tall in a corner of the den behind the dog crate. it blended in well with the dark wood paneling. she knew it was a mosin-nagant and was ok with it--just did not want to handle it. she now speaks for herself and tells me of growing up in poland and those rifles being quite common.

A guy I know's cleaning lady refused to clean the house until he put all his guns away.....even the ones in a gun case. I'd be looking for a new cleaning lady!

I thought I was the only one who keeps Hoppes #9 in the bath room. In my defense. The bathroom has the most light when I clean my guns......

Well, I've stored my 1911 in the freezer and fridge before. :p
But since summers here can get pretty miserable, I don't think it's too much of a problem... unless somebody tries to defrost it in the microwave.

That may be to avoid any suggestion of impropriety. One should not be leaving valuables visible to even legitimate service people.

Its OK we're friends here

I have 2 holsters, various calibers of ammo, some spring and a few bolt parts on my desk as we speak/type

I didnt notice until i read here and looked LoL

Normal to have "stuff" for your "thing" all over I think. Right now I can reach 2 pistols without moving anything but my arm, range bag is over on the kitchen floor about 8 feet away. And sitting on top of the entertainment center are 2 boxes of ammo, 4 gun related books, 2 holsters, a powder horn, and the written tests from last months hunter ed students.

I could accept that argument, but she was just freaked out by the guns being around.

Hmm...I just happened to glance around while reading this thread just to see if anything seemed out of place.

On my nighstand/dresser is a .38 snubby, P89, and a SW5904. Next to it is an AK, about a foot away from me is the 1300. Various knives are strewn about from cleaning out my desk earlier.

I went to the bathroom for two reasons, one was to see if there was anything in there, and the other, well. In the bottom drawer of the sink cabinet I found 2 boxes of 9mm and a 50rd box of .22. In the cabinet up high is the HiPoint C9, but I knew it was there. In the medicine cabinet was a 12ga cleaning brush and one of my brass brushes that I've been looking for.

I haven't ventured beyond these two rooms yet, mainly because it's very early and I'm pretty tired. But we're in the process of cleaning and reorganizing this week, so there's no telling what I may find.

Don't feel bad. I have stuff laying around too.
For months now I've been using a Bucket-o-bullets, one of those little plastic tubs filled with .22lr, as a door stop.

Two months ago, I'd have said I had various gun stuff all over the house.

A few loose .40cal rounds sitting on the computer desk and various other places.
A tool box with cleaning gear in the livingroom.
Parts for a Mauser on the hutch.
Range bag in the corner of the livingroom with rolls of targets.
A box in the kitchen with 500-rds of 5.56.
A few shotgun shells left here and there.
A pellet gun propped up next to the fridge.
A 12ga propped up in a corner in the dining room.
A Glock on the bottom shelf of my wife's nightstand.
A Glock on top of the fridge.
Four boxes of .40cal Hydra-Shok in the drawer with the plastic bags.
Etc, etc...

But, that all changed when my son and his wife separated last month. Since there's a 20 month grandson involved in the issue, my daughter-in-law and my grandson moved in with us. The kid comes first!

I did a massive search-and-collect. I found stuff all over the house that had to be put away.

The worst thing is that we had to set the crib up in my gun room. Small house! I had to child-proof that room and it took hours just to restore the ammo elsewhere.

ahhhhh....

After reading th OP, I thought maybe I had a problem too

But after reading the thread, I realize I'm just as normal as all the rest of ya :neener:

I try to be organized, really, but things just seem to walk about the house. I can see 60 rds of rifle ammo on the kitchen counter- for 3 different rifles, and a box of pistol ammo. One pistol in this room, two in another, five shotguns in the third, plus all shorts of different shells for them.

Actually don't have any gun related items in the bathroon, some things are sacred, after all.

uh oh, I just thought of the movie Psycho, I wonder if anyone makes a waterproof pistol.

Freezing your 1911 might not be so great if you carry IWB....brrr!

Where would you "put them away" to if not in a gun case?

Well I'm glad to know there are at least twenty or so kindred spirits at least out there, my wife has been putting things away since we just moved and gave me a bunch of stuff to put upstairs, it was enough for a short range trip!
