I have a high point 9MM, for an inexpensive weapon I am pleased with it. I use it primarily for Home Defense. Any other thoughts or comments.
 
proper way to use a hi point for self defense: hand it to the intruder. when he tries to shoot you with it, it will explode on him and kill him. :D

Just look at the Hi-point threads here. Some people like them, and some of use had bad experiences with them. All my experiences with Hi-point handguns were not good at all, and I would not waste my money on one.
 
I have not owned a hi point yet (and am also wondering why this in the revolver forum) and personally I would never own a gun that ever has had or has been claimed to have reliability issues when my intention is to use it for self defense.

6 Hipoint 45's and 1, 9mm. No fail to fire incidents. No stovepipes. works everytime on any ammo. I will buy more. Excellent customer service. Made in USA

EVERY gun manufacturer out there has had a problem at sometime or another. Period.
 
I've bought Hi end guns that had problems. I have had several hi-points in the past with zero problems. I wouldn't carry one but would not hesitate putting it in the nightstand.

A few years ago a friend of mine fell a foul of the law and gave me his guns to hold. he was aquitted but thats another story.

One was an ugly Hi-point 9mm

the darn thing ran flawlessly and i tried to abuse it. They work. Plan and simple.

So does the 9mm carbine.

It limits my choices to a small selection of revolvers basically, I would ofcourse half to allow for some marginal possibility for failure but at the same time I can't think of a very long list of issues with ruger or pre lock smith's that cause them to stop firing all together (I'm sure it has happened but it is rare)

I would still own some of these guns (S&W's with lock, taurus revolvers etc.) but would never intend to try and use them for defense.
 
A friend of mine has a 9mm Hi-Point C9 Compact. The first 50-75 rounds he could only get it to function regularly if he loaded the 8-round mag with 5rds. :( It may have also been ammo choice. The first box was CCI blazer FMJ, the next few boxes were Winchester 115 gr. FMJ.
 
Oh Yeah...I would add a 12 gauge pump-gun like a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500, and Keep the Hi-Point as a back-up.
 
I bought one, the standard 9mm, to try out as it was by far the most common firearm I was encountering on duty.

I fired approximately 150 rounds through it total. The accuracy was poor to mediocre, however, I hit what I was aiming at. It was not reliable. I had numerous failure to feed issues. Though, in experimenting with it I determined these were magazine related.

As a firearms instructor I would not recommend it for self defense, UNLESS finances were an issue and it was the only choice. I would rather face an attackers with a loaded Hi-point than my fists.

As a side note I dura-coated the slide and grip panels OD green as a seperate experiment. It did improve the looks. I also thought the grip on it felt pretty dang good (at least for my hands).
 
I had a C9

It always went bang, even with about 2000 rds of dirty Wolf crap through it. Accuracy wasn't bad. Not great, but good enough for SD. They aren't target firearms. Wish I kept it for a vehicle or hideaway in the house. Go ahead and enjoy. I have higher end pistols now, but I do wish I kept it. Good for the above reasons and as a loaner for range trips to introduce others to semis.

Well, I guess that eliminates you from the handgun self defense pool then, 'cause somebody, somewhere has had a problem with every gun that has ever been made.
 
They are butt ugly, crudely made, simple, and heavy, designed to be "smithed" buy a guy that was working on tractors last week.

Rather like every Russian combat aircraft ever made ... and the Russians have been known to make some pretty good combat aircraft.

My HP in 45ACP seems to work OK. Had a few failure to feed problems early on, but that is not uncommon in new guns.

Its ugly, clunky, and does not even have a slide release. Don't like the safety lever much.

Its probably too big to carry around. As a truck gun or nightstand gun, its maybe an acceptable choice.

The ironic part is that some of the most vehemently anti-HP people are those who have little direct experience with them. The most loyal seem to be long time HP owners.

I have not shot mine enough yet to say it is really reliable or not.
 
I wrapped a bunch of hockey tape around the grips on mine. They seemed to get very slick whenever things got hot and sweaty at the range. I'll admit to a few failures. Not many - less than 1/1000. Good enough for me.
 
Hi Point 9MM

Went out an fired my HP 9 this afternoon, 25 rounds. it didn't blow up so i guess it is ok. also went to local gun show. prices are thru the roof. Ammo is scarce.
 
I like mine. I wish they would redesign the striker/safety mechanism , knock down some of the sharp edges and and lower the slide serrations. Another wish would be for a double stack model.

I would gladly pay more for these improvements.

If you like the 9mm, try the .45acp version.

thanks for the insight. I will look at the .45 as well as the .40. Is there a great difference in ammo cost?
