Hi Point pistols

The slides scare me on the pistols...

The 9mm carbine is a guilty pleasure, my "old steel" Dad is getting a great internal chuckle bolting on a cheap laser flashlight and oversized bolt handle on his.

The funny thing is the Red/Green dot on top tends to be just a touch high, the laser a touch low... just put the target between them and everything works out.

A friend of mine bought one for his first handgun a couple years ago because it was cheap. It does get the job done, but he has had a lot of jams with it and does not consider it reliable at all. If you are getting something to shoot for fun, I would say go for it. But if it's something you are going to use for protection, I'm not sure if I would trust it like I would a Glock.

I already have a few other pistols that suit all my needs. Im not and probably wont be in the market for one but hey at the end of the day a gun is a gun.

was this the 9mm ? they had more feeding issues than the other calibers

Some people will try to convince you they are good guns.
have you ever shot one ?. lots of people are quick to knock hi-point cause of there price they seem to associate it with junk like cobra firearms. yes the ergonomics suck ,yes it a heavy gun,yes it has relatively low capacity. but they are accurate and if they aren't reliable something is wrong in which case you can all ways use there warranty.

I have shot two on different occasions. Both jammed during the string of fire and both had cruddy triggers. However, it's been at least five years since I've shot one. I have seen them in gun shows and the fit and finish has appeared to be similar to those I shot in the past.

hes right, they suck.i cant even believe im wasting my time bashing them.:neener: btw ... if you can make my hi-point 45 jam with fmj or jhp rounds......i will buy you a case of beer of your choice . thats an open invitation:D

and the trigger on mine is pretty decent

I have never fired a HiPoint handgun and most likely never will just because they are so ugly and heavy. I do however own the 9mm carbine and I must say it is pretty cool in my book. Super fun to shoot, being 9mm ammo is reletively cheap, and its pretty darn accurate to 100 yards. No FTFs , jams or problems. I'd say if you get anything HiPoint do a carbine.

I've certainly been looking at them. It's a giant plus in my book that they are made here in U.S. For those long-time owners, how comfortable do you guys feel about firing +P or hot-loads through Hi Points? I'm thinking that these guys may be right on the money by not getting too progressive and concentrating on using reliable, tried-and-true methods to make decent weapons.

How 'bout that warranty?

Damage, age, and plain old wear and tear—these things happen. When they do, Hi-Point customers enjoy a lifetime, no questions asked warranty. And lifetime means just that— free repairs for the life of the gun, whether you are the first owner, or the third. That service is fast, friendly and expertly performed. Your Hi-Point will be back in action, good as new, in no time.

All Hi-Point Firearms are made in the United States of America with no imported...

Considering the state of other 'American' manufacturers... maybe what we need to do is get behind a company like Hi Point and, as their customers, try to help them keep doing what they are doing so they don't go astray like some others (Winchester, Marlin.... ). I'll tell it like I see it, I have no qualms with buying a foreign made weapon if it is the best tool for the job. I shot belgium-made machine guns for years on my tanks when I was in the Army with no complaints. My point of view is that I am willing to take a chance with my life on the fact that Americans making weapons for Americans will (hopefully) take the responsibility for providing us with safe, quality weapons out of a sense of personal responsibility. Every time we pull the trigger we are putting our lives in the hands of the company that made the weapon we fire. I get the feeling that that is what Hi Point is all about; that they understand this and they truly care about the end user.

Yes, I know it's like saying that the Taurus is the tallest dwarf in the crowd, but it is what it is... (oops, is that not politically correct?)

You could say it was the tallest hobbit in the Shire without offending anyone, I think.:D

i have a little experiance with them. i have the 995c 9mm carbine. i hate it the stock is way too short for me so i cant get a comfortable cheek weld and get a lot of cheek slap. however my wife loves the heck out of it, i put a 2.5x7 scope on it and it groups under 2in at 50yrds not great but good enough for what its made for. a friend bought one at the same time and loves his ( hes shorter)

both guns will fail to battery the first round on occasion but a good solid whack snaps it in. ive never seen either gun jam and they both group about the same. we have fed them everything from steel cased commie ammo to handloaded hollowpoints and the guns just work.

i dont care if something is ugly or heavy i just care if it goes bang and puts the bullet where i want this gun fits the bill.

MIO, try the cheek weld on a Kek tec Sub2000:eek:. The Hipoint isnt as good IMO but the ergos are better.

were you loading all 8 rounds into the magazine ? was the ammo 115grn ? were the guns broken in ?

I will happily shoot any safe gun for free.

Well you better get out and start shooting them up then, tho they might not be the most reliable guns they are probably one of the safest much safer then your standard 1911 or glock which sounds crazy but these things weight as much as a brick because there built like a tank and they eat double charges for breakfast.

If you watch this 4 part series you can see that these things can take a beating and then some and the likeliness of one blowing up even if you try is just not there. I use my C9 as a test dummy for experiments with reloaded ammo and high pressure stuff and have yet to hear it complain.

I would love to see someone try to put a glock through these test.

Generally speaking, you get what you pay for.
Fortunately Hi-Point doesn't fall into this generality.

It's utilitarian pistol that does the job. It's not pretty, nor well balanced. It will, however, go bang every time you pull the trigger and easily do minute of torso accuracy at home defense ranges. It also comes with the most generous lifetime warranty in the industry. Anything your hi-point gives you beyond that is gravy.

I've never shot one. I only know one guy that has one. He likes it, says it works great.
He also thinks, ''$300 is alot to spend on a gun, it better be pretty frickin nice to spend that kind of money!"
He also drives a new Camaro and/or new F350, has a nice boat, and his wife drives a Corvette. I can't figure him out? I guess it's about priorities?

Anyways, I've seen High Points. I'm afraid to touch them. What if ugly is contagious? It could spread to my guns!

I will sell you mine for 100, comes with two magazine and a free case that it fits in.

I keep mine in a plastic CURAD first aid kit, lol.

Pietro... If this is a joke then it's bad form to bad-mouth an item in another's FS thread especially if one's post spawns from ignorance or elitism. If you're quasi-serious then it's bad form to hi-jack another's FS thread to sell your item.

Sarcasm is always bad form now 'adays, I will stand up a little straighter next time.

I can see if I can't find an old thread I participated long ago about the quality of the highpoint. I own one, and its always for sale -- but no, it wasn't an attempt to sell one, I sell my firearms through the trade section.

Pietro... maybe I was being a bit dense. Were you trying to say that the seller's Hi-Point is worth far more than $100 and you were joking to folks who disagree? If so then I apologize.
