Home invasion foiled

Unless I missed it, it doesn't say what kind of gun the homeowner used. I'd be curious as to what sent an M-16 wielding thug running for his life. Or maybe being cowards by nature, returning fire from darn near anything would do?

Who was the woman at 16-19 secs. in the video? Fat lady LEO? Looks like it was transposed out of sequence.
Funny and very serious at the same time.

HOLY CRAP!!

That is the type home invasion that only security cameras would help to thwart. Had he not had the head's up give by those cameras, he'd be SOL.

I think Jeff's onto something too. Home invasion or hit job?

It's incoherent as presented, and probably IS out of sequence. It would be nice to be able to link to the full videos to get a better idea of what's going on without performing a lot of analysis and speculation. My first instinct was that the video was at least partly faked, but the PD seems to be involved, and so it seems unlikely.

Well, I have been "hearing about" more and more invasion scenario's where there are more than 2 attackers that seem to be relatively well armed and determined...

I guess this is part of the new landscape of crime out there. Be warned, your double barrel isn't enough anymore. It almost seems as if the arms race of the 60's / 70's and 80's have spilled over into our back yards.

This is kind of strange to me, those guys must of known something was in the house of value or maybe it was a vendetta. Strange that they all rushed out of the car like that and ran up into the house.

He repelled 4 men who were pretty reasonably armed. I thought it was pretty impressive. I should be so lucky to respond so swiftly in that situation. I'd probably soil myself in the process.

He definitely reacted quickly. Those guys were moving fast.

However:
Shot neighbors house.
Missed his targets.
Shot at them after they were no longer threats.

That being said, I don't think I could have done any better. Certainly wouldn't have been so "unsuprised".

was thinking the same thing cbrgator. The bad guys got away but he did infact defend his house. Now you would just hope that they don’t come back with more people and more ammo. The second time may not turn out quite as well.
On the other hand he may get a piece of them if they do come back. With that security system he should be able to see them coming.

I agree. Doesn't seem like a typical smash'n'grab.

Nonetheless, he responded very quickly and effectively. This reinforces my belief that it is a good idea to arm oneself whenever strange vehicles or individuals approach one's home. You just never know.

I almost always have a weapon in my hand or within arms reach when I'm relaxing at home. It's not always a run of the mill handgun, either. Last night, an invader would've gotten perforated by .500" 325 grain JHP's, as my Eagle needed some petting while I was watching a movie.

No it wasn't a typical smash and grab. I'll bet $5.00 that the "home owner" was involved in the production or distribution of recreational pharmaceuticals. I am betting that was an attempted rip off that is so common in that line of work. His level of preparedness was just a little too good for someone who wasn't expecting that kind of attack.

According to the news article in the discussion of the incident in Strategies and Tactics, this happened around noon. Who is home at noon? People who work nights, retirees, housewives, kids who won't work and people who work from home. I can only imagine what his home based business is. :scrutiny:

Man, the only thing that the homeowner was missing was the automatic gate. It would have been sweet had he been able to lock the car on the grounds (like a trophy of sorts).

I liked how the camera caught Joe The Plumber's crack on camera as he almost pulled a Luke Duke sliding across the hood while retreating. Looks like 3 of them beat feet to the left of the house, and too bad that he didn't get the BG's.

Kind of Blued, they were still a threat. Joe The Plumber points a handgun back at the home from the passenger side of the car. That's when the homeowner fired 2 shots into the windshield. He probably was toting a 5 shot revolver is my guess.

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm.. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my shotgun.'

That one made me laugh.

Speaking of shotguns, I think a 12gauge shotgun with #1 buck would have been a better choice for the case in the video.

He probably would have hit his target, and over-penetration would have been less of an issue.

Agreed. A 12 gauge loaded with buckshot of any sort would have been more effective and safe. Home Defense=Shotgun, handguns are nice when you have time to aim effectively but a shotgun is the best choice when in a stressed situation.
