Hi all. Does any know of any real world defensive situations where a defender thwarted an attacker with the Hornady 410 critical defense round? The one with the BB's and flat disks? The round is a good thought for apt dwellers. Not sure if it actually stops bad guys though.

Don't know, but I believe they are specifically designed and marketed for the .410 pistols like the governor, not so much for actual shotguns, not to say that they wouldn't work, who knows. :scrutiny:

The critical defense load is a .41 cal bullet over two 35 cal round balls. Unless the bullet has a hollow base, It's going to start yawing severely as soon as it leaves a smooth bore.

I've long wished that someone would manufacture rifled .410 barrels for common platforms (rem 870, Mossberg 500 etc.). Not so much for deer or defense, but because I could make up super cheap roundball slug loads that would be a lot of fun for plinking and small game/varmint shooting.

Even better would be if someone made a .410 die set for a single stage mettallic press so I wouldn't have to buy an expensive dedicated shotshell press for .410.

It probably isn't that great for an apt. anyway, a .41 cal slug and the .35 cal lead balls are going to go through as much interior walls as probably any other HG round and more than a typical 5.56.

You are probably thinking of the Win. PDX Defender which is 4x discs and BBs. It would penetrate less in an apt. since it penetrated less in Gel as well, only 10.5" in this test. Not good enough for me personally.
