How long before an Ammo Ban?

To say it can never happen is burying your head in the sand.
This is another front that needs to watched.

The last I saw the Robertson/Pitmman tax brings the feds 11 million a year.

They won't throw that in the trash can no matter what.

DMK,
I didn't say that is was happening, I said that was what I had heard. That is why I asked the question to find out what others had heard.
AFSNCO,
I am hoping that the story you heard has a lot more truth to it than the one I heard. It would be nice to know that we aren't buying ammo from somebody that is also selling it to be used against us.

Is there something preventing them from raising the rate? I am unfamiliar with the law, but if they could get more money and restrict the flow of ammunition, I can't see why they wouldn't jump at the chance (howls of protest aside).

I hope we never see an onerous ammo tax but let's face it, the Feds very likley have accounting errors bigger than 11 M all over the budget.

Congress would walk past 11M like you don't stop to pick up a penny in a parking lot.

Ed Kennedy and his faithful sidekick Kerry have already sponsored legislation to ban sniper ammo. Ed even had a public breakdown on the senate floor bewailing the evils of sniper ammo. The idea is out there. Implementation is a different issue.

Yes in 2003 right before super tuesday there was a debate on the latest assault weapn ban proposal. John Kerry left the campaign trail to join his friends in the senate to vote on an important piece of legislation. The Senate legislation, proposed by Shumer, Kennedy, Boxer and Feinstein, would have established a performance based test to determine if ammo was armour piercing. If it was it would have been banned from civilian possession. The test? wether or not the ammo could pierce a level II balistic vest of the type worn by police officers.
The ".30-.30 round which is sold in hardware stores" stated Turddy Kennedy in his speach, "could go right through a policemans vest, pierce an armour plated limosine, was being sold everywhere, along with ammo that was even more powerful." "All this evil armor piercing ammo needed to be banned for officer safety since there was no good reason for any american to own it and it was the choice of criminals and terrorists."

The bill would have outlawed all center fire rifle ammo if it had passed.

So yeah a tax or a ban could certainly happen if the Democrats get control of the congress, and we get a bad administration (gulliani or clinton) in the white house.
