How many of you have a truck/car gun

I have read many threads where people have said, "my truck gun is a xxxxx".

I am sure there are tons of people that live in the middle of nowhere and do leave a gun in the car all the time simply because of the sooooo minimal risk of theft.

I am more curious about the folks that leave a loaded gun in the car all the time. While the car is in the driveway, parking lot, etc...in a more urburn/suburban setting.

When you reply...post what your always in the truck/car gun is and what your setting is...urban, rural, etc...
 
Taurus 669 w/18 rds of ammo (when it comes back from the 'smith). Right now, my PPK/S...
 
I dont have a car gun per se, I just have my carry, which is either on my side, beside my bed about 3 inches away from my hand while i'm sleeping, or in my hand when I'm at the range.
 
Usually a couple pistols and a rifle in the cars and truck 24/7, but I do live out of town.

In the truck I've got a 357 Ruger Security Six, 38 Special and SKS.
In the car I've got a 357 Ruger Security Six, 38 Special and a M1 Carbine and sometime another pistol in the back.

I'll probably add to or replace the rifles with a Kel Tec PLR-16 .223 pistol as soon as I buy another one or two.
 
I'm with Car Knocker on this one. Gun is on my hip and thats where it stays. Wouldn't dare leave a gun in a car here in Tucson. Too many cars getting broken into around here.

Now, if I lived in a place were guns on racks were commonplace, I might leave a shottie or a 30-30 in a rack but that's it.
 
I keep an old Charter Arms .44 special snubbie in a hidden holster bolted under the dash of my truck. It's in a spot no car thief would ever consider, but I can get to it in a hurry if needed. If the whole truck gets stolen I haven't lost much, but probably it would probably still just remain there undiscovered unless they chopped up the truck considerably. When I'm in the sticks (mostly), there's also usually a Browning BPS pump 12 gauge behind the back seat also.
 
I don't think I'd leave a "car gun" in the vehicle parked outside. That's just Ig-nant.:uhoh: I take mine to the car, place under the driver's seat, drive the car, and then take it out once I'm back at home.
 
that is what lockboxes are for...one under the seat of each truck.

which contain usually, 1 EA S&W M60 and 18 rounds of ammo, 12 of it in speedloaders.

when in the woods (a lot sometimes) there is also an SKS and a 30-06/308/7.62x54R/7,65x54/7x57 or 7.5x55 swiss behind the seats keeping the R870 company

Nope. Way too easy to break into a car and happens way too often don't have any intention of arming the criminal element.

Ah, I applaud your common sense. Clearly, your efforts are keeping criminals in your area from illegally procuring firearms.

By the way, aguyindallas, I live in a semi-rural area (out in the woods, but must go into town now and then, and every so often, venture inta The Big Cities, Tacoma and Seattle ... picture the opening scenes to "The Beverly Hillbillies" with Jethro, Ellie Mae, Uncle Jed and Granny drivin' the truck into L.A.)
 
I live in a city with 300+ thousand in the area. We have alot of crime here also. I do however since about a month ago have a "automobile" gun on top of my two carry guns!:evil: My automobile gun isnt in there at this time becuase of some problems with it. Its a Kel-Tec PLR16. I wouldnt keep this in there if I didnt have a nasty alarm on it. It has two backup batteries and two backup sirens to go along with the normal battery and siren. It has about every sensor available for it. It also has 2 mini piezo sirens inside that are painful. So if they do get in before I get out to them to welcome them they will be very uncomfortable. On top of that it is one of the two pay LCD remote systems. So as soon as somehting is triggered it shows me on my remote up to a half mile.If I ever leave the range it tells me. I live in a apartment complex so I cant get there within 2 minutes at the worst. I almost never not in site of my ride. It pretty much a ridiculous over the top system but I have WAY to much invested in my ride. Could all of these fail or someone get around them if really wanted? Of course but thats a small risk I take. I truly wouldnt leave it in there all the time if I didnt have the setup I do unless I had a totally different routine.
 
Glad to see I am not the only PDW concept fan!!

AR-15 pistol legally carried with license...Mag locked, charger cocked, and ready to rock:cool: ... Concealable firepower, that's the ticket! No it doesn't stay in the car all the time. Usually only when I go rural now, but sometimes I carry it in,"bad urban areas".
 
If I did, I certainly wouldn't advertise it on the Internet. :D

I believe that a using a discreet lockbox of some kind, fastened to the car and only unlocked when the car is occupied, is a viable means of storing a firearm in the vehicle such that a weapon is always available while seated in the car.
 
I've been thinking of buying a beat up SKS and keeping it along with a bunch of ammo as my trunk gun. Will have to be kept in a locked box but in my opinion a SKS is the best trunk gun out there. Cheap, AK reliable and built like a tank. Plus I don't care if it rusts, or gets beat up.

And if it gets stolen, no big money lost.

I was just thinking the same thing. Just to many variables out there to let it be known that there's a gun in your car when your not in it.
 
Location - Rural southern Iowa

I live in a town of 800 people and work in a town of 4K people. The entire county population is 12K people. Sometimes I drive to a larger town like Ottumwa (pop 24K) or Des Moines (pop 195K).

Vehicle - 2002 Kia Rio 4 door

This vehicle is a very roomy trunk and has NO trunk release inside the vehicle. Leaving my vehicle unlocked wouldnt allow anyone access to the trunk. The only way to gain entry into the trunk is to use the key (or a crowbar). Sometimes I lock my car, sometimes I dont - but per above it doesnt matter as the firearm is in the trunk.

Firearm - Yugoslovian 59/66 SKS

I have a grand total of $50 in this rifle. Its in prestine condition with a flawless bore. I keep the gun in a hard case. The rifle is also stored in a silicone gun sock. There is 120 rds of 7.62x39 SP ammo on stripper clips stored in a ammo pouch that I have sewed a arm strap on.


I leave this gun in this vehicle 100% of the time, I take it out very occasionally for inspection, cleaning or re-oiling. It goes right back in, usually within hours but definitely within the day. I have considered swapping the SKS out for a Mosin M44 in the winter because of possible rust issues. So far I havent yet.
 
.454 SRH when I'm away from the house for more than a short time. This is in addition to my carry gun. I put it back in the house when done. I live in a town of about 200,000 surrounded by farmland, oilfieds and mountains.
 
I keep an old, cheap, beat-up rifle hidden in a soft case the back of my car. I obey the law, so it is unloaded. The ammo is carried up front.

I've lived here almost my whole life and have never had a car broken into. Cheap rifles are hardly unavialable to the local bad guys anyway, so I don't feel like this is in any way irresponsible.

FWIW, it's an old French MAS 36 carbine, lightly sporterized and worthless as a collectible. Nice tough peep sights that aren't going to shift around, .308-class 7.5 ammo, utterly reliable and quick to load with chargers. I paid $80 for it.
 
A friend and his wife keep Glocks in their cars. Their employer has a no gun policy in the parking lot but they drive through Dallas to and from work at all hours.
So it comes down to what some call irresponsible and breaking company rules by leaving the gun in the car or going unarmed at the worst time.
