How much ammo do you have ?

When my shop burned down I had to figure the loss for the insurance company.

32,000 rounds, not counting many thousands more in unassembled bullets, cases, powder and primers.

Now I have half that amount in 22 Shorts alone. :D

~4,500 rounds of .22LR
~3,000 rounds of 9mm
~2,500 rounds of 7.62x39mm
~400 rounds of .223.
~250 rounds of 12ga
~200 rounds of .30-06, with enough powder and primers for a hundred or so more, but only six bullets

I need more! MORE!

Roughly 10,000 rounds of handgun ammo (11 calibers), 10,000 rounds of rifle ammo (14 calibers), about 6,000 rounds of .22 Long Rifle (not counted in either handgun or rifle), and around 1,200 rounds of shotgun ammo (all 12 in bird, buck and slug).

I hate moving...

i don't have any. and grampa has not much.
~1600 .22lr
~100 .22mag
50 .22hornet
50 .222
~40 .243(but no gun)
~100 .38spl. (HP and wadcutter)
~100 9mil(but no gun)
~~200 20gauge, buck, slug, and shot of unassorted sizes

once i'm on my own i'm thinking somthing along the lines of 1K rnds/gun.
when i'm getting my Garand i'm getting 368(IIRC) of .30-06 in en-bloc clips, in bandoliers. and another case of about 3-600rnds.

As much as I need. I reload and purchase in bulk for cost savings. I usually keep around 700-800 on hand, but don't want too many of a load if that is not what I decide I want.

Hmmm, I think, when last I checked:

approx 5000 .308
approx 5000 .223

300ish 12ga #8
250 12ga 00
30 12ga slug

800-900 rounds 9mm fmj
500 rounds 9mm jhp
300 rounds .40 fmj
400 rounds .40 jhp

some various calibers for guns I don't even own, including a smattering of .45acp, .270, .222, and several boxes of .22lr and .22wmrf

PREACHERMAN: every time you post that picture it makes me smile.

Not enough.

Preacherman, every time you post that picture it makes me jealous. You're not supposed to inspire envy and coveting, dangit.

Maybe I'll get in to reloading One Of These Days.

Let's not forget the blissninny scumbags that want to classify anything more that 500 rounds as an "arsenal." Those folks don't uderstand that when the local sporting goods store puts federal .22 bricks on sale for 8 bucks, some of us STOCK UP.

My gun room looks like the ammo display section of a gun shop.

Some of us reload.

Some of us load calibers we don't own or shoot for friends. yeah Jay I don't shoot much .38 special but I can load you up some quality stuff on my .357 dies...

Some of us have sealed packages of surplus ammo 'just in case.' Zombies, werewolves, UN Troopers, imminent alien invasion, biker nomads, mutants, the possibilities for a near end of the world, or at least nieghborhood should be taken into account whan creating a 'gun room.' Note the 1300 rolls of Charmin in ziploc 'battlepacks' in the garage.

Some of us have a variety of pet loads derived from Dr.Octagon's 'special mix' loaded to escape velocity and rated only for Redneck pals named Cletus and Bubba who have more beer than sense on a given day.

Some of us feel we could use more tracers, though we aren't sure why.

Some of us feel the need to buy.30cal 220 grain round nose bullets for moose... though we could hunt moose where we live we haven't gotten around to making up a batch but we have all the components... you know just in case but we've also been eyeing a .375 CZ Magnum... but until then we really should load up those 220's... never know when a large animal might get loose nearby.

Shotshells? Oh please you can't GO to the range without at least 100... so you should have 500 or more on hand, right? And that doesn't count the 100 rounds of slugs and 100's of rounds of buckshot for hunting and 'social work,' or specialized loads for turkey, grouse, pheasent and that five pack of "Dragon's Breath" Uncle Joe bought you for Christmas.. (Ok it was a ten pack and you had to rebuild Joe's Outhouse... but still)

Some of us have done 'odd thing's like load a .25 cal 117gr spitzer boat tail rifle bullet into a .25 ACP case... Just to see if it's possible. (it split the case, sorry)

Some of us think how much amma-ni-shun we got ain't none 'o your dang bid-ness, mister.

Some of us will just say... well Bob, what do you need?

How much ammo do you have

Not as much as I would like

Pansy. I reload for guns I don't have. :neener:

7.62x39 - 6,000
.223 - 2,000
.50BMG - 500
7mm STW - 10,000 (all hand loads, took just over a year to find that much brass. I heard they were discontinuing the round and freaked out.)
.45acp - 1,500
.380 - 500
12ga - 700?
.22 - Don't know for sure, but I can't lift the container its in.

I decided a few years back that every time I buy a box to shoot, I should buy a box to save. Now my car won't fit in the garage :uhoh: The media would have a hayday reporting on my 'arsenal'

Ammo? What ammo? All the ammunition I have ever bought has been fired the same day safely downrange. I would never consider storing such dangerous and volatile materials in the home. Think of the children! ;)

.22 lr - approx. 3000 rounds
.25ACP - 40 rounds
.380 - 25 rounds
9mm - 150 rounds
.38S+W - 50 rounds
.40 S&W - 20 rounds

.30-30 200 rounds

12 guage - 40 rounds of 00buck

16 guage - 100 rounds

Thats an estimate. Each may vary by a couple here or there.

Lets see now....

.45-approx. 1000

.44 spec.-200
.38 spec.-150
.25-25 rnds

Hmmm..
I think I need to fatten up on pistol ammo.

I never seem to have enough. When we have it laying around the house, the wife and I just feel like we HAVE TO shoot it up. Here's a rough guess as to what we currently have on-hand:

22LR - 500 rnds
.380 ACP - 400 rnds
9mm - 600 rnds
45ACP- 200 rnds
38spl/357 - 100 rnds
44mag/spl- 50 rnds
7.62x39 - 500 rnds
7.62x54R - 700 rnds
7.62x51 - 400 rnds
223 - 1400 rnds
30 carbine - 400 rnds
.454 roundball - 30 rnds
.490 roundball - 35 rnds

Total: approx - 5315 rnds

Man! My collection is anemic!!!

From Largest to Smallest, caliber-wise

7,62X39 = 19 rnds :uhoh: :( Something ain't right here
.223/5.56X45 = 800+ rnds  Not even 1 months worth for the AR's
.40 S&W = 100+rnds :) Over a hundred keeps me happy!
.45 ACP = 50+rnds :p These little buggers are expensive, need more!

Ha, I wouldn't even rate," Lunatic" on the Medias ," Gun Nut-o-meter"! While some of us(I won't say any names but rhymes with,"Creature-fan") would make some small countries jealous with their,"'Munitions stash"(along with most of us here :) lol).

Ammo? What ammo? All the ammunition I have ever bought has been fired the same day safely downrange. I would never consider storing such dangerous and volatile materials in the home. Think of the children!

+1 :neener:

...and having said that...somewhere around 20K rounds...mostly .223, .45 and 7.62x39. And components for about 6k rounds of .45

And lets not forget the 200 or so .58 cal ball, patches, powder, and extra flints for my Harpers Ferry replica flintlock pistol!

Preacherman...what can I say... hail.gif

I, too, bow to Preacherman!

Saw your previous thread, Preach, on putting together an ammo cabinet ... I've done the same, but mine is only 60" high rather than 72", and it isn't as nicely full as yours ... so I still have room for more!

Dr. Rob +1

I have a partial box of factory ammo for my 9mm and about the same for my deer rifle. Shotgun, just what's left over from dove season, which isn't much since I can't hit a dove for jack.

I handload or reload for everything else. I load what I'm going to shoot this week and very rarely more than that.

I have stopped buying powder in large jugs, the one pounders are cheap enough now and one one pounder lasts nearly a year. I only buy powders that I can use to load multiple calibers. Titegroup for just about everything pistol and IMR 4895 for everything else in rifle. I shot up all my H110 and H4227 loads over the weekend and *might* buy another one pounder of H110, but I'm not sure at this point.

I used to buy up when components were on sale, but have found having the extra room and the ability to change a load and not be stuck with two or three hundred of something I'm don't use anymore is cheaper in the long run.

If the JBT's are hoping to find some super secret info on any of us (not that there is any) do you really think any bright minded, career oriented, up and coming gov/le superstar is going waste their time to hawk info from THR ? Gimmie a break, you would have to be the biggest PITA, geek dufus in the world to be reduced to an assignment like that. Not to mention all the lack of excitement.

No offense intended here guys, but as far as internet forums and groups go, we have to be among the most boring out there.

99.99999% of us are law abiding people just having a little fun shooting the breeze about shooting. A career LE move, we aren't ;)

Lot's more places and forums on the 'net would make for more productive fishing I'm sure.

But, if what you say is indeed true, to the folks monitoring here:

Welcome to the THR ;)

What do you shoot ?

Not enough, never enough.

A man can not have too much ammunition, too many books to read or enough red wines. I think that Kipling said that quote.

Even as impressive as Preacherman's ammo closet is, it isn't enough.

-Jim

I can see it now...from the Detroit News..."Len was considered by his neighbors to be a quiet, polite man. However, after he was killed in a terrible cheerleader accident, he was found to have a 'huge' cache of ammunition in his tidy, two-story house...."

All it would be is a brick of 22LR, 200 or so 9mm, 200 41Mag, 150 357mag, 200 38SP, and 100 or so 22Mag.

Only shooters would know that this amount is just barely enough to see a guy through an afternoon of dedicated target practice...but on paper, I wonder?

The media would have a hayday reporting on my 'arsenal'

I watched a local news report about a month ago. A 20 year old kid was pulled over for DWI and decided he could put a little ninja magic on the officers who pulled him over. They pepper sprayed his ass three ways to Sunday :D

During the news story, it was highlighted that the man 'was in posession of an automatic weapon with enough ammunition to kill nearly a hundred people' and ended with the comment 'carrying that kind of firepower is still legal for anyone in this state'

It turns out the gun in question was a marlin 22 in the trunk along with some targets and about a box and a half of 22 LR. ammo.

The report didn't mention ONE word about the guy being under the age of 21 and drinking, where he got the alcohol (a local bar) or who the hell let him drive drunk as a skunk.

The media is everyone's biggest enemy. Shooters, cops, motorcyclists, the clergy et al... everyone.

When the cameras roll, the truth or accuracy doesn't matter, just hype it and get the ratings.

No wonder sheeple are so paranoid.

BigSlick

Approximately...

20,000 in 9mm, 20,000 in .223, 10,000 7.62x39, 2,000 in .45ACP, 20,000 in assorted .22LR, 1,000 in 12-gauge and another 10,000 in other assorted handgun and rifle calibers.

And then there is the reloading bench.... :)
