Yesterday I posted the "Do you handload?" poll. Obviously, the savings associated with handloading are most significant to those who shoot the most, which leads to this question.

In a year how many rounds do you typically go through? And what calibers (since again reloading saves more if you're blasting away with thousands of .44 Mag rounds each year, rather than 9mm rounds that seem to cost about 1/3 as much)?

You can also throw in an estimate of how much .22 ammo you go through, which obviously isn't handloaded by anybody (as far as I know).

I started reloading a few months back which has increased my ability to shoot.

I've probably gone through about 1500 rounds of .38 special, and probably 500 rounds of 45 colt. .22 rounds I"m not sure about, probably a little over 1,000. Gonna have to start loading for .223 so I can afford to shoot that more than once a month!

Something above 7,500 last year. Not counting .22s.

Mostly .45 ACP, .44 Spc., and a little 9mm for practice and matches.

Assorted rifle and shotgun, too, but I don't keep much track of that.

I'm afraid to add up how much I shoot. If I consider ALL guns (rifle, pistol and shotgun) I would estimate it to be in the 18 to 20K per year range. I do know if I didn't reload I couldn't afford that much......

In the past:
500 or so rounds of 41 mags, 1000 or more 22 LR, 200 or so 22mags, 200 or so 25/06, 200 or so 243, and 3 to 5 boxes of 20 ga shotshells a week.
Now days:
Some one stole my 41 mag, replaced it with 44 mag maybe 20 rounds a yr, 50 rds 25/06, 20 rds 243, 250 or so 22 lr, and maybe 2 boxes shotshells.

Everything reloaded except the 22's

.45 probably 4-5,000
.40 about 2,000
.357 maybe 300
.38 maybe 200
.380 about 1,000
.223 about 1,000
.22 about 5,000

So, more than I thought at around 8-10,000 per year not counting the .22

45ACP -5000-7000 rds per year
41 mag -100-200 rds per year
38/357 -200-2000 just got my first 38/357 to get my distinguished revolver designation.
300 win mag -20-40/year... all load development is already done on this one.
30-06 -20 rds per year...all load development is already done on this one.
7-08 Improved -20-40 rds per year.
243 -300-400 rds per year.
6mm -10-20 rds per year.
6 Dasher -200 rds per year.
223 Improved -10-20 rds per year.
223/5.56 AR -500-1000 rds per year.. depending on how many service rifle matches I can get to.
22LR -5,000-10,000 rds per year.. depending on free time for Bullseye practice.

I joined an outdoor range this summer with the idea that I would shoot more there as it is closer. Has not worked that way unfortunately due to work schedules. When I have a day off, my first thought is not to go shooting. I'd rather go fishing.

So at this point, I'm probably about a 250-500 round per year centerfire shooter and a couple thousand round per year 22 shooter. Yes, ammo cost is an issue.Time is a bigger issue.

range time is 6 to 8 trips/ month

this year i have expended 14K SPP's and 8K LPP's (mostly 45acp);
also 2k SRP's (223) and 4K LRP's (6.5/7.5 & assorted 30 cal's)
and of course, a brick of 22's each trip

though i do not practice as much for IDPA or CASS as i use to, my daughter does. so i am feeding two.:D:D

Not enough. I probably go through 5 or 6 bricks of .22lr a year and maybe 1200 rounds of .45ACP. The biggest obstacle for me these days seems to be finding the time. With a new wife and a kid on the way, the opportunities to go to the range are few and far between.

I usually lose count after the first 30 minutes at the range. I like to try and get out once or twice a month, but haven't been as much that I would like too. :(

In a year how many rounds...

I couldn't begin to guess. Several would be the best answer. Just a couple days ago, I know I fired off well over a hundred rounds between the all guns I took to the range. It was probably the second time in a month that I've gone out to shoot too.

During summer I was going through 25-50 shotshells a week with my weekly trap and skeet rounds. Now its closer to every other week. Im going to throw out the number of 2 cases of shotgun shells a year (20 boxes). Add in to that a few odd slugs pre-deer season, and a few buckshot shells when I get bored every few months and decide I want to go tear apart paper.

Now when it comes to guns that aren't mine... a lot of rounds!

I'm pretty regular in my habits, and I'm not a high-volume shooter. I shoot every other weekend, so 26 times per year. I probably miss 5 or 6 outings a year because I'm out of town or hunting, so 20 shooting outings per year. My normal routine is 50 rounds .22 or 38 Special (bullseye target), plus 50 rounds of SD practice (.380, 9mm, 38 Spl or .22LR in my Glock conversion). I try to alternate .22LR days and centerfire days.

In addition, I probably have 5 outings/year where I shoot either the 30-30 rifle (20 rounds each time, assume twice per year) or the 357 magnum carbine (25 rounds each time, assume 3 times per year) and 357 magnum Contender (40 rounds each time, assume 3 times per year).

So:

1000 rounds/year .22LR
1000 rounds/year .380, 9mm, 38 Spl (probably 75% is 38 Spl)
40 rounds/year .30-30
195 rounds/year 357 magnum

All centerfire rounds are handloads.

If I shoot at this rate for another 30 years, I'll need:
30,000 rounds .22LR
37,050 rounds various centerfire cartridges

I better stock up!

We have a house account. 2 Adults and 2 children, all semi-active shooters.

This year so far we have shot (estimated)

.22 LR About 5000
CF Pistol 1000
CF Rifle 1000

This was pretty slow compared to last year when numbers were about triple for me alone, and the same for the house. Of course the taxpayers were buying most of the ammo last year.

At least 10,000 rds. Probably half .45, 25% .44, and the rest a mix of 10mm, .40, .357, and .22. Yep, reload for all but the .22.

It comes down to "what's my mood?" at any given time. Could be 100 rounds of .45 Colt, 20 rounds of .30WCF, 40 rounds of .30-'06 Greek M2-Ball :), 100 rounds of .223 Remington, 550 rounds of .22LR...

Who knows... ;)

5000+

I reload for 15 different calibers. I could not afford to shoot as much if I didn't.

Having a range on my property and a belt fed semi-auto really help keep my numbers up also.
