Hypothetically what would be your choice: Uzi in 9mm w/ 16 Mags or Winchester Lever Action in 45/70 w/ 100 rounds of ammo?

That is the choice I'm looking at right now. I only have funds for one or I'd buy them both. Uzi is more expensive but comes with a ton of mags. On the other side a 45/70 lever gun has been on my want list for some time now. Uzi or Winchester, Winchester or Uzi. Might have to flip a coin on this one. Both completely different and in all honesty, not very practical. But when has practical been a parameter when wanting a new gun?

Which would you choose and why or which would you not choose and why?

Thanks

Always wanted one of those semi-auto Uzis since they were first being imported here in the states. Just never had the money while they were relatively affordable, now they're priced way out of reach.

As far as the Winchester .45-70 is concerned don't really have a use for one and it would be more expensive to shoot than the 9mm. Uzi.

I've had 3 different 45-70 lever guns going back to the 1970's. Most over-rated cartridge out there.

I'd not personally have much interest in the Uzi but would rather have it between the 2.

If you go with AR based 9mm PCC with cheap 33 round stick magazines, you may save enough money over Uzi to buy both PCC and Winchester lever action. ;)

I have both a Marlin 45-70 and a semi auto UZI I built from a frame and surplus UZI kit back in the day. I bought the 70s vintage Marlin from a friend who no longer could shoot it. I think I've put maybe a dozen rounds through it in the 30+ years I've had it. Killed a deer with it but it's kind of overkill on white tails. Really have no other use for it. Ammo is over $1/round

The UZI was one of the first PCCs (pistol caliber carbines) and is kind of cool in historical design kind of way. It is an outdated compared to modern PCCs. Ammo is much cheaper.

If given a choice I'd probably buy a more modern PCC that uses glock mags over either of those mentioned.

Well, I took the obvious route.
See post #7 for what I think is the correct reply, from my experience owning them both.
Of the two, the Uzi gets more use, simply for cost of ammo. Neither is practical. Both are fun. The .45-70 has a bit more utility as a hunting rifle should I have the urge to ditch a bolt action for a different experience. The Uzi is purely a range toy, save your money for something more modern if you are thinking self defense.

Unless the 9mm Uzi is a pre-bans rarity worth a lot. The 45-70 is a better choice. I would take a rifle caliber in a rifle over a pistol caliber in a real machine gun any day of the week.

My 16" Norinco UZI was unreliable with anything but Nato-spec 124gr FMJ, was heavy, unbalanced, and had one of the worst triggers I've ever had the misfortune of pulling- like, painfully bad.
Speaking of pain, the charging knob is a sadistic torture device.

Maybe the IWI originals are better, but Id still take the lever gun.

My brother also had a Norinco example back in the mid-80's. He didn't keep it long.

Uzis are cool, but some had their problems and in the end, it's still just a 9mm. There are other PCCs out there I'd rather plink with. I'd go with the lever gun.

.45/70 lever gun I could use in Black Powder Cartridge matches and it would be as good a choice for stopping a bear attack as my current designated bear defense gun (12ga pump with slugs).

9mm Uzi in black powder could not knock down a steel ram silhouette target at 200 meters and would probably just enrage an attacking bear.

I owned the exact same model Uzi as show here. I always wanted one, it was nice to own a piece of history. However, with the wood shoulder stock and 16" barrel, it weighed in at nearly 13lbs. It was really no fun to shoot at all as it was so heavy and ungainly and 9mm carbines at outdoor shooting range distances are pretty boring to shoot. I took it to the range twice and then promptly sold it. I learned that SMGs are a blast when they are SMGs. When they are neutered into compliance as a 16" barrel semi auto, they are terrible. If I could afford a FA Uzi, and lived in America instead of behind enemy lines in California, I'd get one in a heartbeat but I would 100% vote for the Winchester.

Several years ago, I seriously considered a “carbine” semi-auto Uzi. The weight of the beastly Uzi made me pick a Beretta CX4, which also has a telescopic bolt design.

And surprisingly to me, the Beretta was also offered as a true subgun (MX4) like the original UZI.

I don’t regret my CX4 choice over the UZI whatsoever.

I just picked up a U22 NEOS 22 pistol in mint condition, would be the perfect partner for the CX4, both look like they were design by Giurgiaro. I also have a Beretta 1301 Tactical that is all tricked out. I'm slowly becoming a Beretta fan.
