Got my third levergun tonight, a Winchester '94AE Trapper in .30-30.

The others are Marlins, 1894C .357 Magnum and 336W .30-30. Next up is probably a Marlin 1895G .45-70. I dunno why I've wanted cowboy guns lately. I put a Ruger single action revolver on layway, too.

I am with you on the lever guns . I love all mine and my marlins are my fav. I have a buddy who I work with and his dad is a master gunsmith for marlin so all my levers have the triple aaa grade wood gold triggers and all that stuff. I just love to look at them. you can never have enough lever guns. i want one in 357 mag next.

I noticed that Winchester is introducing a take-down 30-30 levergun this year. I may NEED one! :D

grimjaw, check out the rossi/puma 92s in .480 ruger and .454 casull. heckuva lot of fun for the money

The Rossi's are solid guns. Bought a EMF built by Rossi but better finish and sights. 24" octagon, case hardened, .45Colt. Lives on bluedot and lee 300 wfn style homecasts.
It's a shooter- at 25yds its the berries for shocking people. So long as you can hold it, it'll split playing cards edgeways. Aint tried it any farther- once someones jaw drops that far you really dont want to press your luck.

I don't even own a levergun and love them. I have really been wanting a marlin in .357, but if there is a take-down .30-30, that could change things a bit...hmm... my backpacking trips may have just gotten easier...

There are now some interesting additions to the Model 94 Lever-action line. The model 94 Short Hunter Takedown features an 18-inch barrel, full-length magazine and ghost-ring sights. It's available in .450 Marlin, .44 Magnum and .30-.30.

There's also a Timber Scout Takedown model with a forward rail as well as the ghost-ring sights.

In addition, Marlin is introducing a 336 in .30-.30 that is designed to take full advantage of the new Leverevolution ammo from Hornady. It is a stainless model with a laminated stock and a 24" barrel.

I'm waiting for Marlin to make a 500 s&w lever.

Hello Marlin......

Calling Marlin over, do you copy......

Ohhhhhh Marlin.........

I'll just die if it happens to be a take down.......

Marlin.....;)

hey johnska, what's the story on that evolution lever ammo? what's it do that normal ammo doesn't?

It has a soft plastic point. The point is soft enough that it will deform rather than set off the primer of the next round in the tubular magazine.

It gives you the ability to shoot spitzer bullets in a tubular magazine rifle. Stretches the point blank range by flattening the trajectory and also improves the downrange performance by maintaining velocity better.

Due to the OAL sensitivity of some lever actions, the bullets have to be kept a little on the short side and therefore the ballistic coefficients aren't quite as good as they might be. It's still a big improvement.

From their website:
*Up to 250 feet per second faster muzzle velocity than conventional lever gun loads.
*Exceptional accuracy and overwhelming downrange terminal performance.
*Patent Pending EvolutionTM bullet featuring Flex TipTM Technology.
*Up to 40% more energy than traditional flat point loads.

I was reading about this just today. Acording to the full page ad on the back of RifleShooter magazine the 30-30 round is 160 gr with a muzzle velocity of 2400 fps. At 100 yards it's 3.0 inches high and at 200 yards it's 0.2 inches high. At 300 yards it's 12.1 inches low. And at 300 yards it still has a velocity of 1699 fps with an energy of 1025 ft/lbs.

If accurate I think this means they just added another 50-100 yards of usefull range to my 30-30.

They also list data for their rounds in 35 remington, 444 marlin, 45-70, and 450 marlin.

I lament the day that I sold my Marlin 336 during a time of financial stress & weakmindedness {during which, I confess, I actually questioned the rationality of owning a gun <momentarily lowers head in shame, but acknowledges that was 15 yrs ago...>}

Soft plastic points make .30-06 in lever gun possible. <drools>

Can you handle the Lever Revolution? I had to buy a lever gun just to try it! :D Marlin Guide Gun will be my next lever. A buddy of mine always says "What are you going to shoot with a Guide Gun?" My reply? "Whatever the $&@* I want!" :D
