I just bought an 8 pound jug of varget for $114. I checked several places online and the cheapest I could find was $116 without the hazmat fee added. My local SW has at least 50 different kinds of powder. Hogden, IMR, etc. Good selection of bullets and primers to.

We just got a new SW here in sw washington,and it's quite the store.They are handing out 10.00 off coupons this month,so I can see my powder and bullet supply increasing for sure.
Almost no small stores will bother with reloading supplies anymore,so nice to have such a source available to be able to deal face to face with.

The nearest Sportsman's Warehouse to me is about 120 miles away. Whenever one of us reloaders goes up that way, we take a list for the rest. It's like a kid going to his first big toy store, just wandering around the store, wide eyed and open mouthed. Most prices are near retail, but as mentioned, primer and powder prices don't have shipping and hazmat attached to them, so the pricing is fair.
The only drawback is everyone else has discovered the place and they often run out of primers, especially just before I hit the place.........

Same here--SW about 3 miles away. Prices ,for the most part, beat just about every mail order thing I've checked(especially when you add shipping) plus we have about 10 GS within about 10 sq. miles and they beat them all including Ganders. They're also way better stocked than any other place around here.Most of the sales guys in the gun dept. know me by name --I'm usually there at least once a week. Great place

Drive straight up I-5 to Salem. It's on the south end of town, west of the freeway. There's also one in Bend, up Hwy. 97, but I haven't visited that one. And there's no sales tax in Oregon.

Went to a Gander Mountain today about an hour away. Reloading area was tiny compared to SW. All the primers were locked up in a glass case with no prices. Powder was locked up in a plywood cabinet so you couldn't even see how much they had of what with a price list taped to the door. Varget was $22.99 a pound. It is $17.99 a pound at SW. I saw lots of things that were not priced and disorganized. They had a huge selection of guns. The nice thing was that they were all out in the open on racks with security cords so you could pick them up and handle them without having to wait on a clerk. Most prices I saw were high. They had $2099 on a springfield socom 2. I think SW is about $1500 on it. SW is definitely better than Gander. They did have adcom 223 for $3.99 a box. I don't know if they would give a case discount or not. They had a bunch of it.

We don't have one near West Virginia. If everybody that goes there asks them to build one here maybe I could have one soon.
ok, that reminds of one thing I don't like about sportsmans warehouse. They have just started keeping all their powders in the back room, so you have to go to the gun counter and ask for the powder you want. (Its a new sw rule). Last time I bought powder, the gun counter was quite busy, and I had to stand there being ignored for several minutes.
All the powder and primers are right out in the open at my SW. The only trouble I had was that the 8# jugs are on the top shelf and I could barely reach the jug. There is a shelf that is probably 40 foot long and the entire top 2 shelves are nothing but powder.

I buy most all of my reloading stuff from them especially the powder. Great selection and always stocked. Funny thing was, they were out of WLP primers last week. Hopefully they get some in soon.

Locally, GI-Joes has Powder for less than $20/pound. Better than the local gunsmith/store. But primers in bulk I can get at my local hardware/sporting goods store. Bullets I usually get from Sportco in Tacoma. Wish we had a Sportsmans Wharehouse round here.

SW is pretty darn good on powder prices that is for sure and in the metro here they are the only source of Ramshot powders, I like TAC. My favorite local purveyor of reloading supplies has powder prices the same as SW.

that's exactly the way my SW used to be, all powders on the top two shelves on a long isle. The guy at the gun counter, when I asked him " hey, where's the powder?", said due to the new rule they have to keep all powder locked up in the back room.
Lucky I don't buy powder that often, because I don't like standing in line at a busy gun counter just to buy a pound of powder.
The guy did not say if it was a "store-by-store" rule, or a city rule, or a state rule, or what. I would imagine it was the store manager's decision for that store only, or maybe a city ordinance. I'll ask next time I'm in there. This is San Antonio TX by the way.
Besides that, I still love the store!

SW rocks! If they would carry .303 and 7.62x54R brass, they'd be perfect. I get everything else from them, and the prices are outstanding.

As to the powder display, I believe it's a fire code thing. In many locales, there is a limit to how much powder can be displayed, and anything beyond that must be kept in a powder magazine that conforms to certain specifications. Though not yet universal, most fire districts across the country are adopting the same regulations.
SW is very big on standardizing everything; if you walk into one of their stores, it's laid out and stocked almost identically to their other stores. The standardization includes storage and display procedures. Thus, they tend to adopt the standards of the most restrictive areas in which they have stores.

I apologize in advance for being the first negative one on SW, but the prices in the one we have here in Boise are hideous. I went to buy .22 cal 55 gr Nosler ballistic tips and the wanted $39 for 250 and their CCI primers were $21/1000. The local mom and pop shop had the Nosler for $37 and the primers for $17. We also just got a new Cabalas and their prices were $32 for the Noslers and $20 for the primers. The only deals I have found at SW was advertised sales regular prices are way too high.
my SW in Texas is also high on primers. I thought the CCI primers were more like $22 or $23 per 1000. I still buy them there, since I'm not screwing with the hazmat fee. They don't carry the "mil-spec" primers either, which I'm disappointed in. I think they're CCI #34 or #41 or something like that.

I love our SW here in Pittsburgh. Best retail prices I've found anywhere around. Their prices on new guns are great. They are always within $15 or so of the cheapest prices I can find on the 'Net. Now if they would only receive Internet purchased used guns they would be perfect
For you Northwesterners, check out Bi-Mart. They don't have a ton of stuff, but they do sell powder, bullets and primers at good prices in all the little towns in Oregon. Needed another pound of Clays and an pound of IMR 4895, they were about $15-$16 each in single pound bottles. They have some good sales too, check their ads. They're a "membership" store, but it's $5 for life, not like Costco. Living out in the boonies they're a real lifesaver (and the guy working the counter is almost always a reloader himself, they can actually answer questions and give advice, almost unheard of in retail today.)
+1 on PNW local BiMart stores. My family shops there weekly due to the prices for outdoor gear, coupled with shooting and fishing supplies. Along with GI Joe's who has slightly better reloading prices with less selection. Most of what I need is at these two suppliers in a pinch. If I need cartridges for plinking right now, they have them, at a premium.
However.
I take the extra time to drive to SW when I want a better selection for reloading and hunting supplies. I admit, I did not the skim thread well enough, but I don't like how SW has no online ordering. I think they are missing out on some coin that way. It's their model and they are growing great regardless, it is working well. With wireless growing, it would be nice to be able to check inventory on a trip....HINT, HINT,HINT!!!!
Not having an online resource is fine with me because every store is the same. Maybe this layout is uninteresting for a restaurant chain due to repetitive detail. But it is absolutely great for the hunter, fisher or hiker (no serious climbing gear) who needs something he forgot or lost at a some hotel room, alpine lake, hunting squat, what have you, hundreds of miles away from home.
I know just where I need to go in the store to get what I need as soon as I walk in the store. This is wonderful for all the professionals that value time more than a destination shopper and weekeender like myself. I'm glad to come back and plan future spending trips, I'm not that far away and it is on the way to my snowboarding grounds. Some professionals don't have the time and can rely on it like a big outdoorsman 7-11 when they know what they are looking for because it's all in the same place at every store.
I particularly liked this on my snowboarding trip to Colorado last winter. I brought some guns too, go figure. Who else carries 10mm plinking fodder. No gunstore I stopped at in my travels, okay, maybe not, I think it was $25 for the same American Eagle offerings.
I'm glad to have them in Oregon. I would like to see more competition in my area by the makes of Cableas and Bass Pro Shops. My wife was back East in NC recently and she stated the selection was better and the prices were much better. So far, in my woods, Sportsman's Warehouse has what few do, what I need for serious outdoor endeavours regarding hunting and fishing, wherever they are, in a pinch, like 7-11, but better.
