Montana in my opinion.
A rugged individualism and wide open countryside seem to combine together nicely to provide a slice of Alaska in the Continental United States.

Ohio is somewhere toward the bottom of the pack. At least until the end of March when the 30 round magazine limit sunsets, and retailers lift their asinine 30-rd restriction on Ohio residents.

There isn't a whole lot to complain about when it comes to restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms in Alaska.

I've always wondered how some states that require training for concealed weapons licenses, that don't allow open carry, that don't allow suppressors, can still be rated by many as better (more "gun friendly") than a state that requires not training for permits, allows OC and suppressors ...

So much of this is so purely subjective absent any criteria being listed. I wish my state allowed full-auto and hadn't voted in the UBC nonsense, but we're still better than most, with a vibrant gun culture.

It's a tough call, thinking about moving to a state than might be only marginally more gun-friendly than mine, but also does not have a substantially better climate or nearly the cultural and recreational opportunities I enjoy here ...

My vote was for other, and I can't really come up with a preference.

Arizona, hands down!

You don't have to have a permit to OC or CC

Castle Doctrine

Burden of proof is on LE regarding SD shootings. This effects a lot of how things go following a SD shooting. Unless there is immediate and over whelming evidence suggesting something other than self defense, LE can't take your firearm, or detain you for questioning. They can hold onto it for the duration of that contact.

In Arizona also, we are protected from civil and criminal actions the result of a self defense circumstance, to every extent. If we are trying to defend ourselves against a threat, armed, or unarmed, and in the process an innocent by stander should be injured or killed by a bullet from the victims (mine) gun, the perpetrator will be the one that gets charged with that injury or death.

No city or municipality may establish or attempt to enforce any gun laws that contradict state law.

It is legal to consume alcohol while carrying or engaging in shooting sports. I don't personally drink, but I think it's ok to give us the right to choose.

It is legal to CC into a bar if:

A. You aren't consuming

B. You are a CWP holder

C. The establishment doesn't restrict such

Now if we can just get these gun free zones eliminated. But even so, it's an absolutely amazing feeling to put a gun on, not have to give any consideration as to whether I'm legally compliant with how I'm carrying, whether or not the magazine is legal capacity, or did I remember to bring my CWP.

We don't need permits to buy guns

We don't have to use an FFL to make private sales

Lots and lots of really good reasons to consider Arizona the best!

I voted Vermont since there is a very good reason that "Vermont carry" is synonymous with "Constitutional carry." The one odd twist is that Vermont doesn't allow silencers, presumably a holdover from when a silencer was seen as the poacher's friend. Other than that, it's hard to find anywhere else that's less restrictive on gun ownership in general.

I'm in Kansas, and I think I'll stay here.

We'er an "F" state ... As long as it's legal by the BATFE it's legal here. We have NFA, Open & Concealed Carry (CCW with permit) and can sell face to face (as long as we don't knowingly sell to a minor or felon) and don't have to keep any firearms records unless we want to, NFA not withstanding.

The following states have full constitutional carry allowing concealed and open carry without the permission of the state.

Vermont - always

Montana - 1991

Alaska - 2003

Arizona - 2010

Wyoming - 2011

That makes them the most RKBA friendly in the county.

^ Agree. Next to Arizona, Vermont and then Alaska would be my choices. Arizona has a long history of Open Carry. I lived there in the '60's (Tucson) and it was quite common and taken normally to see citizens carry everything from old Colts to then modern semi-autos.

I've OC'ed in 5 states besides AZ (NM,MT,UT,VT and CO) and no where do I feel more comfortable than the Grand Canyon State,

It was difficult to leave Pennsylvania and Tennessee out of this poll. They are both right on the bubble. My home state has no OC and many OL locations. Texas also lacks OC and proper signs there have the force of law.

Still, both are light years ahead of Hawaii,Maryland, New Jersey and New York.

And to add, Gamestalker summed up Arizona quite well in post #32. Made me almost tearful ! My wife has cousins in Sierra Vista and Tucson that we visit every few years.

I've been begging her to make the move there for 10 years. But our extended family grounds her to South Florida. It is quite maddening with the clock ticking! :cuss:

Any suggestions on how to convince her to make this trans-continental move would be greatly appreciated. :) Really.

You'll have to seek marriage advice elsewhere. ;)

Yeah, I'm trying to connect with the spirit of Dear Abby in the netherworld! :D

Guess I just have to keep plodding on my own.. Miracles do happen. Sometimes :)

At least I get to wonderful Arizona every few years. That's cool. ;)
Next time ,this October, I'm going to OC my fine Smith 629 CL with the 5" barrel. Maybe get a javelina.

I listed Arizona, almost listed Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming, and Montana. It was kind of a roll of the dice.

If Kansas does what I think it will, I would have listed Kansas first and foremost:D!

I think it's also important to celebrate the many positive changes that have been sweeping the nation over the last decade or so. I lived in S.D. during the 90's, and almost got arrested for OC-ing shortly after arriving. Having lived most of my life in Arizona & New Mexico, I didn't realize that gun laws varied that much. Almost made the same mistake in Colorado back in the late 1980's while on vacation.

Now days I hear S.D. is experiencing some very positive changes in this respect, so good to hear. Yet it appears Colorado is sinking deeper into the darkness.

The locations mentioned in post#12 are not parts of the United States.

Wish I didn't live in one.

At this juncture, Other, combining 31 possible states has 22 votes.

Arizona, by it's lonesome, has 15
Alaska has 11.
Vermont has 11.

We can now see where the land lies. :D
