If you could only have three guns...

I suppose I would want to have:

1. Bolt Action 22
2. 12 gauge o/u or s/s
3. 30 30 lever gun

FYI, I chose the 30 30 over some other calibers that easily outperform it most of the time. It just seems that given the terrain that I most frequent the 30 30 seems to be the best fit.

Mossberg 500 12 gauge pump
S&W 642 38 special revolver
Marlin 1894 cowboy in 38/357 mag

These 3 will keep me and mine protected and fed quite well... I'm set up to cast and load for them as well!

Favorite three

Two categories:
1) SHTF Scenario (Have all three)
- Springfield M1A Loaded (For reaching out and touching someone)
- Remington 870 Express (Takes 2 3/4" - 3" - 3 1/2")
- Sig Sauer 226 (9mm not much of a dropper round but a reliable high-cap sidearm)

2) Sentimental & Fun (Have all three)
- My Pap's 1925 Ithaca Flues model 12ga SxS (Good memories)
- Ruger Mark II Target (Fun all day shooting and accurate as all-get-out)
- Bushmaster .223 (Never a dull moment)

General all around use:
Marlin 336 in .30/30
Ruger GP100 (.357)
Mossy 500 with a 20" barrel and chokes

If I could have one more it would be a marlin 795 .22lr.

But I own more than 3 guns, and plan to keep it that way...

Dave, swap the Mossy for a REM 870 and I have that setup. I agree that it is a sound investment!

Man this one has been going a while...

Of the guns I own or have access to:

1. I am a rifleman. And the M1A/M14 is a "rifleman's rifle." I'll take my M1A Loaded. It already has the ARMs mount. I was holding out for a decent DMR optic, which as of now on this market doesn't exist, but if forced to choose I'd put something like a 1.5-5 Leupold MR/T on it. A little long for inside stuff, and heavy, but decent balance, and I won't be fighting inside. In the hills, the range, power, and penetration of an accurate, reliable semi-auto 7.62x51 like the M1A is worth the added weight. This rifle can be used for everything from range and competition to hunting and defense, and parts and ammunition are available domestically enough to be able to find it easily when the revolution starts...which if I can only have three guns is going to be here directly.

2. My Ruger 10/22 with Weaver 2.5-7 rimfire optic on it. Lightweight and portable, ammo and parts are everywhere. Good for small game and plinking, and if necessary, close range defense. I've tried it out on some drills and I think both eyes open on 2.5x, mag dropping on the head could be effective. No recoil, very accurate and fast follow ups, and it wouldn't really take 10 hits to put someone down. I'd just engage the head until the threat went away and fight my way to the M1A, or whatever else is available.

3. SIG P220SAO .45 ACP. I'd actually prefer my G20 or just about any other Glock but don't have access to them and fear 10mm ammo could be hard to find. The .45 is available here and the SIG works well. Little more complex and hard to find parts for than I would like, but it is pretty reliable, accurate, and thin enough to conceal. Good close in fire for defense.

This thread has been a goodie. I know I posted a response over a year ago, but my thoughts now are:

1) Marlin 1894C. Out to 100 yards, .357 from this rifle is a potent round. Ammunition is likely always going to be readily available. The rifle is just so handy, points well, and even with my old eyes is easily accurate with iron sights.

2) Ruger Mark II. Man, this was a tough decision. CCW - not the best choice. 1911 - have to leave you behind. :barf: But, if society goes tits up, you've got to have at least one .22!

3) Rem 870. This choice is a no-brainer for me. What else do you need to say about this shotgun?

too easy,

kimber eclipse 2 45 protection

ruger m77 270 big game

browning a500g 12g small game and birds

what more would i need?

I'm a little late getting in this game.

*Springfield 1911
**Lefever 20ga (2 barrels) wink-wink

I told the kids to put them in the casket. They can keep the remaining weapons.

if you could only have three guns, what would you have, specifically?

a revolution.....

1911, Remington 870, 357 magnum, 3" barrel. I live more in the City. If I was in the country, I'd trade the 1911 for a lever action 357 magnum.

I would go with a Mossberg 500 Field and deer combo, That way I can hunt just about everything in my area.
Then I would go with a Bushmaster 223. target rifle or a defensive rifle.
And then for a pistol I would go with a Glock 19, IMHO it is a decent gun for CCW and still a nice size for a fun range gun.

Just in months mine changed as well.

if i could only have 3 guns, I will keep my tactical 3-gun rig.

Noveske 18" Rogue Hunter Rifle 5.56

Benelli M2 12 GA shotgun

Glock 17 Pistol

With those 3 i could train, compete and defend.

If I had to grab three guns and go:

Rock River Tactical Entry M4 .223
Bennelli M1
STI 40 cal Brazos Custom Edge.

But thats why I had children, To pack out the other 10 guns I would like to have along.
