If you could only have three guns...

I'd want power, portability and (looking for another "p" word here) the ability to find ammo for the thing. Provisioning?
One long gun - a 12 gauge pump. probably my Ithaca 37.
A CF pistol - haven't made up my mind there....a Ruger SBH in .44 mag pops into mind first. But then.....a Thompson Contender in .44 or .30-30 with a ten inch barrel. Would it be cheating to have both barrels....or three or four?
Or just a 1911. Hard to decide.
A .22 pistol - accurate and reliable.....lessee......Ruger Mk.II.

These three take care of just about everything that I do involving hunting and general shooting.
Ithaca 37, Ruger Mk.II, Colt Gold Cup. Yeah, that'll do it.

I'll play:

1) A dead-reliable battle rifle, semi or fully auto. That being said, my choices would probably be either an AK and/or variant, an AR and/or M4 variant, a FAL and/or variant

2) Glock 19 3rd gen

3) A good .22 pistol...Probably a Buckmark, but there are many other nice ones.

An answer for almost any situation...
Steyr Scout .308
H&K P7 9mm
Remington 870 Marine Magnum 12 ga

Even though you guys are tired of seeing Enfield "Jungle Carbine", this is so handy, portable and has some power, with nice aperture sights.

SKS and an old Savage .22 bolt-action rifle to finish the trio.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."

Don't even gotta think on this one..

1: Springfield M1A w/ Sage EBR chassis/optics/bipod
2: Guncrafter Industries M1911 (model 1) 50. GI
3: Saiga 12 w/ 32 round drum/T6/foregrip

Glock 21 for my pistol, I know there are people out there that hate Glocks. Oh well.

My AR15 (Aero Precision). Again, I know that there are those of you that do not like AR's. . . Oh well.

My .300win mag (model 70 Winchester).

These would be my choice. Except for maybe the .300win mag, ammo will be readily available, for the most part.

Just three I will take the budget slant on a tight budget I would pick
Used Ruger M77 bolt action in .308 Winchester with a scope
Used 12 ga. pump shotgun probably a Mossberg 500 or Rem 870 and chokes
New .22LR pistol
If I could squeeze in a 4th it would be a .22LR rifle.

now if money were not an issue

A Ruger 77 in .375 H&H w scope
Browning A5 16 ga.
Ruger 77-22H w scope

for a SHTF

AR-15 20 or 24 inch barrel with a boat load of ammo not tricked out just some sort of passive aiming devise and a set of iron sites. for when the batteries run out.
Colt LTW Commander in .45 ACP
Mossberg 500 riot gun

I'm not going to have just 3 guns.

I may have my 870 12ga, My scoped SKS, My .357 Bisley, My .45 1911, My 9mm Browning High Power, My S&W .380, My Ruger 10/22, My RG-63 22 mag, 8mm Mausers, My 30-06 Mauser, My Remington .222, My Savage 22 High Power, My Winchester 30-30, My Ruger Bearcat, My Beeman Pellet rifle, My Winchester 70 300 WSM, My NE .204 Ruger, and whatever else I have hidden or buried unregistered. You guess which one and when.....;)

slow, that kinda takes away from the spirit of the question. its a hypethetical scenario not what your really gonna have when the chips fall and its every man for himself. That being said i too dont belive that only 3 will do. For me it would be,

Sorry hit the wrong key.
0. My AR-15 when im done building it - food/fighting
1. My T/C Icon in .308 - food/fighting from a hide
2. My Saiga rifle in 7.62x39 - fighting
3. My 590 - food/fighting
4. A 10/22(or equivelant) - food
5. A bow and quiver of arrows - for when ammo is no longer existant
6. A few good knives of various sizes for the same reason as the bow

if i could only have 3 guns, i'd have 3 guns that each filled a niche and combined filled the full spectrum of potential needs.

1) beretta px 4 subcompact, i love it, easily concealable, holds 14 rounds with nonextended clip. anything within 50 yards, this is my go to guy.

2) ak47 clone (gp1975/wasr 10-63 for me have both but either or will do) fills the mid range role, good for defending fixed property against groups of looters within a few 100 yards of you.

3) any 30-06 rifle. remington 770 for me (i read horrible reviews on it, but it has been working good so far). 3-9x40 or stronger scope on it. this fills the roll of long distance engagements.
