Yeah, OK. I'm thinkin' SHTF, etc...

  1. Fantasy AR 18" Middy w/62 gr. rounds
  2. Mossberg 590 20" 9-shot w/Poly-Choke and #0 Buckshot shells
  3. Browning Hi-Power with 124 gr. NATO 9mm

Three is at least two too few for comfort. But I guess maybe something like this:

1. Marlin 1894c in 357
2. Marlin 39a Mountie in 22lr
3. Either an M1 Garand, or a 20 gauge pump, or a 357 revolver. I guess that's cheating. Sorry.

1. Marlin 336 .30-30 - scoped Bullets everywhere, reliable, easy to clean

2. Mossberg 590A1 12 ga, dependable as the day is long...whats not to like ?

3. Glock 21 45acp- again, everywhere. The AK of pistols, easy to clean, nearly indestructible.

Just for fun

2) Saiga 7.62x39mm
3) Colt 1911 .45, with .22LR upper assembly mod

1: Good solid AR platform (Armalite, Rock River, Bushmaster, S&W, LMT,etc...)
2: 9mm high capacity reliable handgun (sig, h and k, s&w, etc..)
3: .22 rifle with a scope and iron sights (marlin, henry, etc...)

Dang, this post is six years old. In that time my gun count has fluctuated from 1 to 10. I'm down to 3 now.
S&W 627, 5 inch barrel, 8 shots & really fun with hot loads. .38's feel like 22's in it.
S&W 63, This little 22 snubbie is cute, economical, & fun.
Beretta AL 391 Urika 12ga. For years I thought 870 was it till I got into sporting clays. This shotgun is crazy reliable.

Funny - I was just thinking about this this morning. My list was going to be five, though, so I'm having to whittle a bit.

1. Marlin 336 in .30-30. It's plenty powerful for either hunting or home defense, it's relatively light (compared to a Garand!) and fast handling. While not semi-auto fast, the lever action is fast enough for follow-up shots. Ammo is plentiful and, best of all, I reload for it and have both cast and jacketed bullets on hand. It's a natural pointer for me and as "just a lever-action" it doesn't set off people's Black Gun radar.

2. A .22 revolver. My Smith model 14 would be my choice right now, because that's what I have, but if I were shopping I might go with a stainless Ruger Super Single Six with convertable .22 Mag cylinder. Revolvers don't have mags to lose and while slower to reload (especially the single-action), they have all of the accuracy of an auto.

3. This one is a toss-up. I like the idea of a more powerful handgun for a carry gun and in that case, my Ruger SR9c would probably get he nod. It's relatively light and thin and very accurate. Plus, with the extended mag, it'll hold 17 rounds of +P 9mm shoudl the need arise. If the Ruger wasn't available, my Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge would be the alternate.

It is tough if you think about it and honestly consider the options. Back in the day, Skeeter Skelton asked that question, but only ONE gun. His pal, Dobe Grant, answered with a .22 rifle after whittling the list down from a 12 gauge, a .30-06, a .44 Magnum, and a .22 revolver.

I'm grateful I live in a place where I am not limited to three, five, or even ten so I don't have to choose and limit myself.

Q

Okay, I'll play. And I'll choose from the guns I already have, just to be fair and to keep me from going insane.

1. I'll keep my Remington 1100 12 ga. shotgun. This gun is rugged, bombproof, and extremely versatile. I've killed everything from dove and squirrel, to deer and pigs with it. This would have to be my #1 choice.

2. I'll keep my Smith & Wesson 625JM revolver. TOUGH choice, but if I'm only keeping one handgun, it might as well be ultra-reliable, accurate, and use a large caliber.

3. I'll keep my Browning A Bolt 30 06 rifle. If I want to reach out and touch something from a distance, this is my choice.

My 3:

1. Remington 700 .308- for when a lengthier shot is needed

2. Benelli M4 Super 90- because it will do pretty much anything

3. Sig P220- because when you want a sidearm to do it all, pick a .45 ACP ;)

1. .357 Magnum revolver. Most versatile handgun I can think of.

2. 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun. Again, a multi-purpose choice. Properly set up and with the right loads, works for small game, birds, large game, personal defense, clay targets.

3. .308 scout rifle. Well, Col. Cooper said this was the most versatile rifle imaginable, anyhow. Here's a chance to see if he was right or not. This was a tough choice and narrowly edged out a lever .30-30.

Since a .22LR got left out of the lineup, I'm going to need to make up some reduced power loads for the revolver and the rifle to cover the low powered end of things.

If you could only have three guns

Because there is no specific reason given I will go with the ones that give me the most enjoyment.

For all my hunting needs My Win.Mod.70 Super express .375 H&H
Small game and just messing around my S&W Mod.17 (.22)
And just because I like it my STI Ranger11 9mm

Isn't it amazing how many different answers to the same question?

I know this is an old thread, but IMO this is a case where old threads are worth keeping alive.

I don't have much more than three guns already (I have 5, but one is more or less a "safe queen"): Two 9mm handguns (MAB P-15 and S&W 5906) a Cimarron SAA clone in .45 Colt, and a Yugo Mauser. All are keepers and shoot great. The safe queen is a 1955 vintage Beretta Model 1935 in .32 ACP. It shoots wonderfully but it occasionally has a tendency for light strikes on the part of the primer. (Or maybe it's ammo related.) All I need is a shotgun and I'm good to go!

Geez. Zombie thread!!

Ahem. I would like a drilling, please, in 20 guage and .30-30, for my long gun. I would like a .22lr/.22mag Ruger Single Six, and a Model 13 or 19 S&W in .357 Magnum.

I will chase no brass!!! In this hypothetical situation, at least. Should such a travesty come to pass, requiring giving up all but three of my babies, these selections should give me a great deal of versatility and ability to hunt, reload, and shoot without difficulty.

I'm going to cheat. 1-Sig P226 9mm with CT grip and 22 conversion.
2- My Winchester pump 12 gauge
3- My Model 700 PSS 308

The last one was hard because I have 2 ar-15s and thinking about a DPMS SASS.

1. Stag Model2 AR 5.56mm
2. RIA 1911 .45
3. Mossberg 500 12ga

the handgun is the hardest a i also like the M&P in .40 or CZ 75B in 9mm

How long has it been since I was here?

Seriously, I can't remember.

No matter.

Here's my three,
in no particular order.

.38/.357
.30-30
.22
