If you had to pick one...

Glock 17, without a doubt.

Very simple design, with fewer parts than the usual other guns; and when the SHTF? Simplicity rules above all!

You get 18 round stock capacity (17+1), but can also fit in the 33-round Glock 18 magazines inside the G17! That'll be nice for home defense, especially if there're multiple attackers. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have! Right? ;)

If you do decide you want smaller, then as others have said: G19 (compact) and even smaller: G26 (sub compact). These smaller models also have the ability to have the bigger (including 33-round) mags inside of them.

Go Glock!

jeeezzzz...

It's like choosing kids... I like the XD, it is American made by and American company is a sure enough hell for leather gun. Relative new comer, but superb as a service / combat choice.

Any of them would work out perfectly, but despite my sentimental leanings I would most likely take the Glock 19...

Mbt2001, the XD isn't American made, it's made in Croatia(IIRC). None of the 4 choices are American made by an American company, actually. The Beretta may be made in MD, but still owned by Italy. CZ has a US division, but I'm unsure if they actually manufacture anything. Etc.

"Quoted & Filed" I.O.T. use against M.B.T. 2001 in the future (I.E. forum battles).

Best attributes? Highest "capacity:size/weight" ratios (except for kahr, keltec etc), low maintenance, durable and reliable when dirty and dry etc, but not very attractive. I don't need more than one. But if I could only have one? GLOCK. No, wait Sig, Sig. No- no, you can't have any of mine. Get out of here. Go get your own glock (like a 26, 19, or 17, 34 etc).

:cuss:

I've owned the XD and the CZ. Never been a Glock fan. My choice would be the CZ, without a doubt. If carrying is important, however, I'd probably go with the XD due to it's reduced weight.

None of those would be my first choice for a carry gun, however.

:(

What is happening to this country... Then go buy a Ruger P95...

The CZ 75 is an under rated but excellent handgun. I would opt for the compact PDR or P-01. Similarly I would go for the Glock 19 rather than 17 as well. The balance on the compact models is better, they are just as accurate, and easier to carry.

Take a look at the Glock 26 and the CZ PCR. The CZ Rami is a gun I would like to have. The nice things about the CZ75 series of pistols is that you can purchase a Kadet kit and have a .22 with your 9mm.

Since my needs focus more on defense than just an all around gun, my choice is the Glock 19... probably the best (imho) defense pistol ever made if concealed carry is part of the plan. If I was limited to just one gun, though, the Browning Hipower would be very tempting... Just something about the look and feel of the Browning!

If, God forbid, the JBT's came and took away all but one of my pistols, I'd want them to leave me my G19.

Then I'd cry like a baby.

If you want American then buy a "hi-Point". Made in Ohio. They're pretty cheap and the gun of choice for most "ganstas".

The point was made earlier. Go to a range rent a couple of different guns and see how you like it. Then decide.

If I had to pick one it would be the Glock 17. I carry mine concealed all of the time and it fits my hand like the proverbial glove. With the myriad accessories and parts available, not to mention the ease with which it can be serviced/maintained you just can't go wrong. The 33rd magazines are simply "icing on the cake".

Don't much care for the Beretta or the CZ and I wouldn't own an XD if I was paid to.
