if you were only allowed 1 rifle and 1 pistol what would they be?

Only two guns, you say? That's not easy. My first choice, a Winchester model 1890 in .22 WRF. In my youth I took plenty of small game with this rifle. Now a companion for more than 50 years it embodies too many memories to part with.

A handgun choice is considerably more difficult. I was brought up on Saturday afternoon Westerns at the town theater so naturally a wheel gun was what I first lusted after, at least until that girl in the sixth grade with pig tails turned my head. :)
My choice these days is torn between the Ruger Single Six and the .44 Blackhawk, subject to change on any particular day.

Is this part of the Obama government to re-distribute the wealth for the common good? After all, who needs more than one or two guns? Right?

Rifle...BLR in 7mm Rem Mag....Handgun...SW 686+ in 357mag...between these two there isn't much that a person could accomplish--long range, short range, big game/targets, small game/targets...these two would do just about everything...

The handgun would be a stainless Ruger Redhawk in .44 magnum. You can load it with snakeshot for snake country, magnums for bear country, and specials for goblin country. What more can you ask for in a handgun?

The rifle would probably be a Fulton armory M-14.

Ideally a springfield 03A3 (since .30-06 is widely used for hunting around here), and (edit) a 1911 .45

Glock 23 and an AR15. Already have both. The handgun was an easy choice and the rifle not so much. I love my Savage rifles. If I couldn't keep the AR I would definitely go with my model 12BVSS in 223.

Winchester .357 carbine
Ruger Blackhawk .357

It's what I've got and what I can shoot very, very well. Can handle almost anything, too.

Plus, .357 is the only caliber I reload and my "reloading bench" all fits in a backpack (Lee Loader, small scale, homemade case cleaner, bullet mould, lead pot)

Somewhat difficult. Handgun, 1911 platform no question. Rifle, hmmm.........? Either an FAL or M-1A platform most probably.

me-rem 700 in 308 set up for 1000 yards and a 45acp 1911 with kimber 22lr conv.wife-h-bar good to 600 yards plus a 22 conv and a sig 239 in 40 with 357 SIG bbl and 9mm bbl. daughter 1894 model in 32 H&R MAG and single-six in 32 also. covered rabbbits to grizz; from city to suburb to the countryside.

Rifle:22 mag because it can easily shoot the eyes out of small game or whatever. . . at better than 75 yards without completing obliterating it.
Pistol: GP100 or similar 357 mag with 4 inch barrel for the close stuff.

if the time comes that we're only allowed to have 2 guns, there is a reasonable chance I won't exist anymore.

I already own mine, a Krebs KTR-08s AK and a Ruger P-97DC .45ACP.

In a SHTF situation I could live with just those two.

But my dream kit would be a DSA SA-58 FAL and a Desert Eagle .44mag. :D

Been there, done that

Before I moved out of California I took all but two weapons to my brother in law in Arizona I kept a 357 winchester trapper with 16" barrel and a 65-5 S&W in 357 stainless. I bought six boxes of 357, and 38 spl in various bullet weights to look good. A Lee loader along with powder, bullets and brass was my real main back up. I made an unbelieveable buy of armscor 357 in 1982 and moved 5 thousand round cases to my brother in law. Now buffalo bore is making a 357 at right around 30-30 capabilities for my rifle. I retired and moved to Az. I have other firearms, but those two would still be my first choice. It's a bonus they are so much fun to shoot and reload. Short of asking my wife to marry me, may be the best decision I ever made.
