103 degrees here today easily 90 by 8am for me it's just too hot to go shooting. Besides being miserable outside my rifles simply won't cool down in any reasonable amount of time after firing a string. I'll spend my shooting time behind the reloading bench for the next few weeks. Work requires me to be in the heat all day so after I get off I just can't bring myself to deal with any more of it than I have to.

Please list what state you're in!

Just look at it this way, Your saving money by not shooting.

Are there any indoor ranges around you?

Not really, I'm loading componets that I'll just shoot later. I would say I'm saving gas but my range is only a mile away.

No indoor ranges less than 70 miles away

I voted yes but only because I wont go during the heat of the day. I will go when it cools off in the evenings or early in the mmorning.

How do you know how your guns(as well as yourself) will shoot and perform, if you dont shoot year round in all weather?

Or isnt that a worry?

I use to do 2 a day football practices in 103 degree heat. I figure shooting is a lot less exercise than that. So heat has never been a reason to keep me from the range. I just make sure to stay hydrated, bring good sunscreen, hat, etc.

For me no. Comfort level is relative to what you are used to. If I'm bringing my family, NO WAY. I want them to enjoy the experience, not dread it.

Contrary to some people, I don't think shooting is an endurance exercise. I enjoy shooting and with the exception of a very few matches, I shoot when it is comfortable (above 50 and below 90).

There's an indoor rifle range in Tontitown, but it's a little short for any serious shooting. It's nice for initial sight-in or rimfires. Or maybe that's more than 70 miles for you.

Heat never keeps me away. I've enough mags for 50-200 rounds for my favorite guns. I stuff the mags in air-conditioned comfort and then head out. Beats standing there sweating stuffing mags. Sweating while I shoot is fine, adds to "stress-fire" practice.

Rain is fine too, but I don't go out intensionally in the rain, as our range floods easily. But if I'm there when the rain starts I shoot through it. Again good to practice in sub-optimal conditions from time to time.

I will run from thunderstorms however.

My profile may say NWA but that's only in a broader geographic sense. Ozark Sportsman and another place in Springdale feature indoor ranges, but I'm down on the other side of the mountain just east of Ft Smith a good 70 miles away.

I was out shooting with a 114 Heat Index this saturday.

With no shade! Did you guys know that black rifles get hot?

I needed my AR sighted in and my M44 was feeling lonely.

NONSENSE!

I went shooting yesterday in near-100* heat. Had a blast.... worked up a little sweat though. :D

A little sweat never hurt anyone. :)

TX DFW area.

I answered Yes because the heat does restrict my shooting somewhat.
But since right now I'm sitting under the trees, in my backyard, on the pistol range, typing on a laptop, while soaking a sore foot, I could walk about 25 feet, pick up a gun and start shooting, so I'm not real restricted.:D

I didn't go today (Honeydo's took priority) but I live in Texas. You just shoot earlier in the day, drink water, deal with it.

108 degrees today here in Las Vegas. I go shooting to enjoy myself....don't enjoy myself at 108 in the direct sun(no shade trees at the BLM open areas around here). Also gun barrels, forearms and chambers get really hot and stay hot. You have to go very early in the morning to avoid the heat.
I will probably wait until mid Sept. to shoot outside again. There are lots of indoor ranges here but with the high cost of ammo having to pay for range time can be prohibitive. That, and you don't get to shoot at anything besides paper.:(

Yesterday's high was 99 degrees, so I opted out of IDPA and will wait for cooler times. It's supposed to be fun. The heat makes it tougher as I get older.

Too damned hot. With the humidity, it doesn't really cool off, it just goes from "convection oven" to "steamer". Time to read, load, plan.
