Generally the heat is not a deterrent. If anything it increases the odds of uninterrupted peace and quiet on the line. It was breaking a hundred when we went in the late afternoon both days last weekend. Hotter than Hades, plus humidity. I had planned to go today, but an impending severe thunderstorm persuaded me to go to the Elks Lodge and enjoy a refreshing beverage instead.

This time of year I usually stick to indoor ranges. There is no shade out in the desert areas where it is legal to shoot and the guns can get to hot to touch being out there in the sun. Spending the gas money to drive out of town to the shooting area also is contributing. Spending the money for a short amount of time before it gets to hot plays a big part.

I worked outside for 17 years in the South, so the heat doesn't bother me.

My outdoor range has covered firing lines, so the sun isn't a problem. I take along a mesh back summer ball cap for when I have to change targets etc. Always take along several half liter bottles of water.

That's about it.

I prefer when it's cold...that way when the barrels get hot, you can cuddle with your guns for heat without getting weird looks from the wife.

I'm out there regardless of the weather. I was on one of the 200yd benches for 4 hours yesterday with a couple mosin nagants and a k98, while wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. No shade. I take a big cooler stocked with gatorade and water, and everyone at the range is more than welcome to it.

I'm w/ XDFAN..... Get there 30 minutes before sunrise and drink a cup o' coffee, watch the sunrise, and start slingng lead... And you're back home before the dew dries....

The indoor range near me is NOT airconditioned (it does have a ventilation system), so it is downright miserable once it gets over 90. So I stick with the covered outdoor range on days like that. I am usually fine with the heat, but if I have a choice between two equal days, one 92 and the other 102, I'll take the 92.

I usually don't go out if the heat index gets over 100. As someone else said, barrels get too darned hot and they won't cool off. Now, if there is a breeze, no problem. But there isn't anything much more miserable than a 110+ heat index with no wind in the south.

I went to the NRA range in the A.M. and then to the mall in DC for the P.M. Cant say much for the 88F because I am from KS and this is the mildest summer I have ever known. I actually walked about 7 miles between 1-2p.m.
VA is humid but not hot. KS right now is HOT!

Was 104-106 when I was out yesterday. Fortunately the shooting area is covered and we brought water with us. Still REALLY hot!

Here the Alabama heat has been hovering between 94-97 degrees

It was 98 when I started shooting Sat afternoon, went to 100, and then back down to 98. It was only 96 Sunday afternoon while I was shooting.

The worst part is the sweat dripping everywhere. It makes it hard to keep the guns clean. I had to wipe my face and hands with a towel constantly to keep it off the guns etc. Then when you get home everything needs a beeter than average wipe down.

It was productive though. I finalized a coule of 9MM loads and picked up a lot of brass in numerous calibers. :)

I voted yes...I am from Texas...yesterday it was 107 outside. Although I did shoot on Saturday. I still go occassionally but limit my shooting to about 6 rounds per gun simply because it takes so long for the barrel to cool down.

I voted yes, since I have stayed home because of heat. But I do shoot in below freezing weather, rain, sweaty hot days, just depends on my mood.
Trying to recover brass, in a foot of snow, kinda sucks:D

My wife and I stopped by the local indoor range the other day to shoot the bull. The place is ventelated, but not ACed (shooting area). Even the owner said it was too hot to shoot in there.

I'm old. I shoot to enjoy myself. If it's too hot or too cold I'm not enjoying myself. You can go if you want to. :D

I still shoot because the bench in the outdoor range is shaded and I go do my business and get out of the heat.

However, I won't compete IPDA until it get cooler!
