June Rimfire Match

OK, so I miss read Mav's post with the rules. The rifle that I was shooting with is actually a target class gun (Savaga MarkII FVT), but I thought that rests weren't allowed. Now that I see they are, I will be heading back to the range with a bipod. This target was shot offhand from a seated position. This would be 28 points (but so close to 38:fire:).

Edit to Add: Shot with Williams aperature sights

Not too shabby, klineia. May have limited your score a little (not much from the look of things), but offhand is good practice anyway. Most folks don't take a bench with em' when they go squirrel hunting. ;)

Went to the range Sat

Here's shooting the Kimber 82G with nirons at 25 yards off a bench... like that bench.

Couple more...

Kimber 82G off the bench with irons again and .17 HMR scoped at 50 yards.

Nice sweep of the irons class...but, you only get to count one (for each division, the scoped one still counts too)...let me know which. ;) :p

Hi, Mav. I've a question on target scoring. If a round just breaks the black of the bullseye, does it count as a 3 pts? Your call.

If so, I'd say Klineia scored at least a 35 (7+7+9+7+5). And the upper right target was close to pushing it to a 37, but too close to call from the photo.

Now, of course, to capture the 10 pt. bonus, things work the other way. The whole diameter of the bullet must be in the black. I think that helps make this target more fun!

THANKS

Wait a minute...i'm using your scoring...tis your call on this one. ;) FWIW, i'd call any break good for anything but the bonus points, which, I think, is exactly what you propose.

:)

Okay Mav, let's just take the targets in post #29. I'll be trying to get out again for the other classes.

P51D,

Thanks! Off the bench, it's another story!! LOL!

Yes, Mav, we agree.

So Klineia, yours should be a 35. If you think that one round on the upper right target is breaking into the black of the bull, then you should up it to a 37. Sometimes they are just too close to call unless you can see the actual target. We're on the honor sytem.

Hey, Shootr. I meant to ask: What kind of ammo are you using? P51D

We're on the honor system.
Yep, and self scoring is always welcome. I admit if you have a score posted, or written on the target, I usually don't bother to check it unless asked or if there is a blatant error (usually in favor of the shooter).

Hey, Shootr. I meant to ask: What kind of ammo are you using?
Guided missiles...apparently. :p

I've settled on Wolf Match Extra. I've tried other stuff but I'm cheap and Wolf ME is about the most I care to spend.

Several guys at my club prefer some German stuff - I forget the brand - but they shoot quite well with it. Tenex is another that many report works very well. The consistency and accuracy of the premium ammo shows at longer range.

Interestingly, I've noticed the difference between Wolf Match and ME to be the consistency. Slight, but noticeable in my rifles.

Shootr - Your shooter, rifle, ammo combo certainly seem to be doing the job! And I got a good chuckle out of Mav's comment:

Guided missiles...apparently.

Good one, Mav! ;)

Yep - LOL!! That's a good one. I had a lucky and good day. Put up a bunch of targets and just shot them all, as I was having fun and figured one should be okay. A bit surprised they all were.

FWIW, rifle is just a basic Kimber 82G from the CMP and sights are stock to that rifle. Scoped rifle I use for unlimited is a plain-jane Savage .17 or another Kimber 82G. CMP blew out a bunch of slightly used 82Gs for $150 a while ago. A friend picked up 2 and gave me one.

Being lazy, one's scoped and zeroed, the other is zeroed with the peeps so when I get the time, I can just "grab & go."

My position shooting is poor compared to others here, but for that I use a mixed bag of different .22s. Nothing fancy and most all my rifles shoot better than I can.

In the spirit of passing along a helpful hint to fellow shooters, I sort my ammo by rim thickness and have found that my Wolf ME with a rim thickness of .034 is most accurate in most .22s I've tried with it. The .033s are also very good as are the .035s. Staying with the same size makes the string more consistent and is noticeable. Works not just with the match chambers, but also noticeable in sporting guns / chambers.

Here's exactly what I use:

I have a couple of those little plastic boxes people use for fishing lures and such, and sort a couple boxes of ammo in front of the TV.

Good system and works for me.

I might have to invest in one of those, shootr. I also need to give Wolf Match a shot...especially if I plan to compete against some of you folks. I just don't know anyplace locally where I can pick up a box.

:)

I've got to think some place around you might be able to get it in - or one of the online ammo places should have some. The rimfirecentral folks might also have a good source in your area. Pretty sure Champion's Choice stocks it too.

I've heard good things about Federal Target and that might be more readily available. You might also watch the CMP for when they get good target .22 ammo in. Keys are slower. speed and consistency. I suspect just sorting by rim helps.

Edit - http://www.midwayusa.com/Promotion/?promotionid=241795&utm_source=hdwolf22lrammo_shop&utm_medium

Looks like it's gotten pricier. Think I paid $4.50 per box last year.

I'll probably just add some on my next Midway order...don't really want burden someone with a special order for single box of .22LR. Don't know about any other Federal, but the bulk (< key word) .22LR "Auto Match" didn't do so well for me. Eley seems to do pretty good though...but it isn't the cheapest stuff available.

:)

Same here, I also tried searching the Nosler site and couldn't come up with any targets either. Does anyone have a clean copy of the target to scan and upload (preferably .pdf)?

Might be a good idea for me to keep a copy of all the targets on my 'puter from now on, just in case something like this occurs during another match.

:)

Here's the nosler target

Was looking to do the same thing today and couldn't access the target, so...

Printed one of the ones I shot and then touched it up with a black marker and white out. Here ya go!
