Looks like that new rifle did pretty well, I'd not complain anyway.
Looks like a 60 & 58 respectively for the 25yd targets and 59 for the 50yd target. Sound about right?Score them for me will ya Maverick?
I would strongly recommend a Savage Mk. II bolt action .22LR. Inexpensive, accurate, easily scoped...what's not to love? If you want a semi the Marlin M-60 is hard to beat for the money, and shoots pretty well straight out of the box (unlike the average 10/22). Spend your savings on really good glass to plop atop it. Something like a Sightron S-I/II or a Vortex Diamondback/Viper would be a good start. What would you guys recommend for such a rifle, just for plinking and maybe some squirrel hunting?
Not at all, just as long as you limit your magnification on the optics (it can go up as high as you like, just set it 10x or below for the match). I believe these are just the type of rifles that you are looking for...a good value, accurate, reliable, easily scoped, fairly lightweight, et cetera. Now would either of these keep me out of the sporting class? I am no professional here Mav! LOL
I find the Savage to be the most accurate "out of box" .22LR for the money, but the Marlin M-60 isn't far behind and is top of the totem pole for a semi without modifications. Are they all inherently less accurate?
Personally, I like a bolt gun a little better...but perhaps that is because I am looking to get a Savage 93R17TRR (basically the target version of the long action/.17HMR Mk. II) and already have several semi-auto rimfires.what do you think would be better.
The M-60 holds either 14 or 18 rounds in the tube (though there is a detachable box magazine version, the 795 which holds 10 IIRC) depending upon manufacture date. The new ones are 14+1 rnds. The Mk. II holds 5 or 10 rounds depending upon the magazine. I prefer the shorter 5 round ones for most shooting. How many rounds can you put in a clip on these things
I haven't seen one, and haven't heard anything bad about them, but just remember that you will have to re-sight your optics for each cartridge. Add in the fact that it is uber-expensive (can easily buy 4 good rifles with glass for the price) and it doesn't really appeal to me.Has anyone seen the Sako Quad package? If so, can you comment on that one?
