I've been happily cranking out .45ACP loads on my Lee Pro 1000 press with the Large Case Feeder, tubes, and case collator. I just got a new shell plate and carrier, and spare die turret to switch over to loading 9mm, and I'm wondering if there is any difference between the Large Case Feeder and the Small Case Feeder, other than the slide that actually pushes the case onto the shell plate. The feeder tubes and case collators I've seen for sale don't differentiate Large or Small, from what I can see. Getting a Small case slider and a straight Z-bar looks to be cheaper than getting a whole new feeder assembly, if that would work.

The small case feeder has aluminum sleeve to prevent tilting of smaller 9mm case. The case collator and tubes are the same but you need the small case slider and straight Z-bar.

Also, if you drill a hole in a penny and use a spent .22LR case to hold the penny in the center of the case collator, you will prevent upside down 9mm cases in the tubes (almost none) - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=6322330#post6322330

I went thru the exact same thing as you...ordered my press as kit in .45 and what I thought was everything to switch to 9mm...got everything switched over and oops..no small slide or case feeder...I was still only doing one brass at a time anyway with .45 so I just continued that with 9mm still using the large slide (took the case feeder and tubes off) and just drop one case at a time in front of the large slide and it worked fine...I guess one of these days I need to order the small feeder but I've done about 500 9mm this way so far :)

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. I picked up the small slider and Z-bar from Midway, for about $9, and got the small feeder base used on eBay. Now to switch over the shell plate, set the auto-disk, and start cranking 9mm when they get here.
