Let's say... $600 for a new gun, for the heck of it. What would you get?

I was going to suggest a USFA revolver such as a Rodeo. They were under $600 each when I bought a pair of them from longhunter less than 3 years ago. Now they're up to $750 each! :what:

Lots of good guns in that price range. Might consider adding a CZ-75B to the list. S&W M&P would be another one. XD9sc is a great little gun. A fun .22 is the S&W M&P 15-22. Just loads of fun. Very Tacticool at a good price. With $600.00 you could get the gun, extra mags, BUIS (I like the MagPul BUIS, inexpensive but not cheap sights), cheap red dot, just tons of fun. everyone should own a Ruger 10/22 and one of the Ruger .22 auto's. Boy the choices are wide open. Hard call. Although with ammo being what it is a .22 understudy to one of your centerfire guns is a great idea.

As far as new pistols. I would look at a SS CZ 75B or a Baby Desert Eagle II in 9mm. I have a couple XDM pistols and they are great shooters.

If used is in the picture. I would look for a nice Hi Power. I've wanted one for quite awhile but haven't came across the right deal.

A used HK P7.
Where can I get one in good condition for 600? I would DEFINITELY consider that.

Ask and ye shall receive:

EVERYBODY needs to own a HK P7, probably the most enjoyable gun I've ever shot. (Until it gets hot! Which is why you need two!)

BTW, I recently picked up a LNIB FNP9 from a friend for a song and was happily surprised. Although the build quality is not that of an HK USP9, it's pretty close, and the trigger and sights are top notch. Comfortable to shoot, very accurate, and no function problems as of yet. I like it a lot, and it doesn't have the inadvertent mag release problem of its cousin, the FNX9. VERY nice gun for not a lot of coin.

My next bottom feeder will be a G20 with a 6" Lone Wolf barrel. $600 will cover the pistol and barrel just fine. :)

I'm leaning toward picking up a P99 right now, actually, because it's a "real" gun to me. My collection is slanted too heavily toward milsurp at the moment.

Do it. You will not be disappointed. It's definitely the best poly handgun out there - the only thing I can think of that comes close is the HK P30 (which costs hundreds more). And it's still not as nice a handgun (inferior trigger and ergonomics).

Shoot a P99 back to back with a Glock, and you'll see the Glock is a joke by comparison. (Don't want to rile up too many feathers, but the simple fact is most Glock fans have never shot a P99). Same reliability as a Glock, same tenifer-treated steel, but vastly better trigger, ergonomics, and fit & finish.

Get a .22 LR - any good .22 LR - With $600 there are a lot of options. I would opt for an old K frame S&W revolver in .22 (model 17, 18 or 617 as long as no lock - personal preference), but there are some great autos out there too.

Rock Island Tactical 1911, and some ammo a holster, and 2 mags

HK P7s are definitely more than 600 EVERYWHERE I've seen them, even used- 900 at my local gunshop. It isn't made any more and parts are super hard to come by, not to mention pricey. I went in and looked at the FNP .45 USG today and have made my decision that it's my next open carry.

CZ-82. If you don't have one, get one. You will love it.

All the soul you can handle in one little smart package. 12 rounds of the fun and cheap 9x18mm makarov

:)

If I was just going to buy a gun for the heck of it I would get the Colt 1903 in 32 cal. Every gun lover should have one. It is a very fun gun to shoot. And their is a lot of history in this little gun. JMB was way ahead of his time with this one. And it is all steel. If not that than it would be the Kahr K elite series.

Lw seecamp

L.W. Seecamp in either .32 Auto or in .380 Auto (preferably .380 as I already have reloading equipment for that caliber and I have many factory and reloaded cartridges).

Since you don't have a 10/22, I'd get one and build a LTR with it. All you need to do is add some good sights and a sling. If you want, add a drop in hammer/sear pair and a spring kit to really clean up the trigger pull. Plus, they are cheap to shoot all day and you'd have money left over for ammo.

The other long-gun option I can think of is an M1 carbine. I recently picked up a mixmaster GI for $500. It is so fun to shoot.

I would get 2/3s of a Used Springer EMP in 9mm. LOL :neener:

If I had to keep it to $600 I would get a STI Spartan in 9mm.

Actually, I own a lot less guns than the OP, yet I still feel like I don't need any more guns, at all. I cannot think of a single gun that I would need that one of my present guns would not handle!

So, I would have to say, if I had $600, I would purchase a case or two or three of ammo and maybe some reloading components to build more cartridges that I currently use.
