I have a couple fairly well used ones.
This was a ranch gun from Az when I bought it, it was in pretty sad shape. I replaced a few odd parts, and the butt stock. The one that was on it was so bad I threw it away. The replacement stock was one somebody else was going to throw away, but was much better than mine was. I seriously don't think this gun was cleaned for 30 years or more when I got it. It still worked. I found a spare barrel and had it cut down, makes a handy truck gun, and I dont worry about taking it out in the rain and snow. I even clean it once in a while (once or twice a year?). Great on snakes with round ball loads.
A favorite. A pre-64 carbine I changed the front sight and band and fore end on to copy the earlier (and much better looking) types. Its had many carry miles on it.
Out in the rain hunting grouse,
Model 71 Winchester up about 10,000 el in July. It has rust spots and faded blue patches, the wrong butt stock thats been sanded too much, a pad installed, and the ramp is a bit beat up. I like it anyway. The bore and mechanicals are perfect, and it shoots well with the Lyman 56 receiver sight and sourdough up front. The price was right, whats not to like? Nice carry gun for summer, and a nice grouse gun with round ball loads, leaving the magazine loaded with full power stuff for the other things one may bump into in the mountains.
