So I'm watching The Fugitive for the umpteenth time tonight and I'm nitpicking/observing everything gun related.

In the scene where they're in the siewer before Ford "Peter pans" off the ledge, Jones slips and falls coming down a transition. He loses his G17 and Ford picks it up. After they part ways Jones pulls out a secondary.

Up until today I always assumed it was a G19 backup. But after looking at it today it almost looks like another G17, which would be impressive to carry a full size duty gun as your backup.

So, your thoughts on what he was actually carrying as a backup?

Yep, thought the same thing and eventually noticed it was a full size as well, though I had assumed a 22 until I checked IMFDB.

I should watch that movie again, good call.

As I recall it was from a front storage pocket designed for a handgun. Tactical police style jacket. Two sides of the pocket were velcro, forming a quick-pull but secure flap.

Indeed you're correct. And it looks plenty big enough to store whatever size handgun you want (within reason).

According to the page, the backup was inside his load bearing vest in a waist pouch. A lot easier than SOB or ankle carry for a backup gun.
