The question was for .357mag. Thanks to all with experienced opinions.Thinkin im going Ruger SP101 3" barrel. My Bulldog Pug u can tell a 3" barrel would help alil better than the Pug's 2.5".Thanks for input

Dlowe,

I can tell you the 3 inch SP-101 is heavy due to the underlug they added (I hate those underlugs cause Rugers are quite heavy enough.)

And yes, I've owned the 3 inch SP-101 .357 as well as the 2 1/4 inch.

I've even got an original SP-101 in .38 Spl. made way back.

I just acquired a Taurus model 431, 3" .44 Special. That model is discontinued, but it highlights that it might make a better hit today, with so many more interested in CCW and in revolvers. Seems like a big ball with manageable recoil is exactly what everyone talks about, or would if it existed.

Another vote for the SP101. And I have experience with Taurus... very hit and miss... mostly miss not recommended. Not bashing Taurus, just relating my experience with a couple of their revolvers.

I also had issues with a LCR, granted it was the .22, but it was junk! Cylinder was loose out of the box and had bad end-shake and worse barrel cylinder gap, cylinder broke free and spun on its own after only a few rounds. To lightweight and not robust enough for my taste.

I'm no fan of .357 in a snubby if one wants to carry one comfortably, unobtrusively, and if you want hand stinging recoil, then I'm sure you can find a hot enough .38 S&W round to satisfy your need for pain; here's my recommendations...

Yea that is a good setup. Particularly the 640.

But I also use a .357 version.

Ya i know i dont want a hammerless revolver.I like being able to cock it,better control for me.I probly would carry 38spl. for the ammo, less recoil. But .357 fun from time to time.

Dlowe,

Then a stainless Bodyguard S&W sounds like the deal (and older Bodyguard, not the polymer one made today.)

I think it was called the model 38 and stainless 638.

They even made a .357 version.

The Stainless S&W Bodyguard J frame .38 Special is the M49. The same in .357 Magnum is the M649. The M38 was a Blued .38 Special with a alloy Bodyguard frame. The M638 is a Sliver Alloy Bodyguard frame. S&W brought back the Blued alloy Aluminum Bodyguard J frame a few years ago, the M438. (really anodized Aluminum) I really like that one!

Whoa....almost met you in the swap lane.

I just did the opposite. I sold a 4" and 2" Taurus so I could buy a Charter Arms Bulldog 44 Special and have some cash left over to buy plenty of cast bullets and primers

No really intelligent reason, just recently getting into heavier, slower, bigger, lead bullets for 44's and 45-70 and wanted a small revolver that would shoot them also.

The 44 Bulldog and my Model 605 2 inch Taurus 357 were almost exactly the same overall dimensions, with the 44 being slightly larger dia on the cylinder and the 357 being just a slight bit heavier (at least until the heavier 44 spec rounds were added. Never wieghed them just the way they felt in the hand).

I am all for you buying more guns.
However, since you have a Charter Bulldog Pug .44 Spl, you are NOT lacking anything in a CC revolver.
A 5 shot .357 snub is not an improvement over what you have.
Good .44 Spl self defense ammo gives up NOTHING to any SD handgun round.
Glaser Safety Slugs, Speer Gold Dot, or this

I sold my first Bulldog .44 to buy a .357, because I believed all the hype about it being the be all, end all.
I still have a couple .357s, but I have more .44s.
I went back with the .44 that doesn't beat the snot out of my hand and doesn't have the ear splitting report.

The charter Arms is a great revolver. But just want a .357mag snub. But Charter Arms revolvers have thinner walls.I want something with more punch. But i would carry .38 +p in it for CCW.Like id already said

Thanks,

Then I recommend the 649!

I use my 640-1 .357 alot now (my 340SC with full Cor-Bon DPX .357s just hurt my wrist to much.)

And my secondary is a older 640 .38 Spl. with Ebony Secret Service stocks.

Both are might handy carry guns especially if you have practice versions (my 642 and 34 kit gun) for range use.

The 357 649 is perhaps my favorite pocket gun. Its this gun from post # 24:

mesinge2,

Just to let you know, S&W flash chrome J frame triggers will fit your 649.

My 640-1 has such a trigger (I fitted it myself, taking out the case hardened one.) And I bet a flash chromed hammer would work to on yours. Any J frame flash chromed one. Might find them at Gun Parts Corp.

That way it will help prevent rust.
