Bullet Lube;

For you guys new to casting or those thinking about getting into casting. The CastBoolit site has a whole section on bullet lube. There are lots of recipes for homemade lube. There is also a member that sells lube. Google White Label Lube or LsStuff. They are much cheaper than places like Midway and offer several choices. They are close enough to me that I pick my order up in person.

I tried to register on the cast boolets forum and it keeps complaining as spam.

Weights & Diameters test. I did.
Tested 4 alloys & 2 size dies. .429" vs .431" The .429" die always produced a .430" finished diameter bullet. When a higher % of pure was added to the mix, the finished diameter got smaller. Less spring back after sizing.

It's just like reloading the initial cost is higher than expected. For your very first try use foundry certified lead like Lyman #2. Once you know how its supposed to go then start playing with scrap.

AJC

I ordered some Eastwood powder the other day.

When you powder coat with Eastwood do you stand the bullets up in the oven? If so what method do you use to stand them?

Yes I do stand them up and it sucks. I may invest in the mini ice cube trays.

I thought about picking them up with a small set of pliers to place them on a tray. Found a good video from "Elvis." But he just spread them out and they all stuck together. When he pulled them apart, they had bare spots.

I will google mini ice cube trays.

I use a 9”x 8” baking pan, cut parchment paper to fit, throw on nitrile gloves coat the bullets and stand them up on the parchment paper. I have since bought silicone baking sheets to be used in place of the parchment paper but haven’t used it yet.

I started with needle nose pliers and that will drive you insane. Get some gloves, put a lite coat on the fingers by rubbing the lid or container, and do it by hand.

Smaller mesh fence wire can work for smaller bullets that won't stand up. Spray some nonstick on the wire and put bullets nose down, dump when hot to help with sticking. A heavy tray is nice to for your oven, nothing worse after spending time standing bullets and the tray warps in the oven. Some gc bullets may fit the wire upright just depends. I use a large Tweezers, like 6" long to place bullets. Dip them every few bullets to keep powder so you don't get bare spots.

the basket way can work but try getting a very light coat of powder and coat twice, this will help with the bare spots where there touching each other.

If I messed with hi-tech coatings I'd like to try casting some zink bullets, lead is a pain here and 99% of wheel weights are zink no lead here. You need a slightly smaller bullet from what I hear and build the coating up.
