My First and Probably Last Post: An Open Letter

We are legion

It's from the Bible. Casting out demons and this one person had many and before being cast out they used that line.

Not sure the OP knew the reference or not but putting yourself among the many demons is not where I would care to side.

My only response is;
My Father was an alcoholic he sobered up the year after I was born. My older siblings remember what it was like when he was out drinking every night. I only got to know my Dad when I was old enough to go to AA meetings every night, and help set up tables, and chairs, make coffee, and put out the doughnuts. My Dad was never home. He traded going out drinking every night, to going to AA every night.
As an adult I can appreciate what it took for my Father to stay sober. How it was the Most Important behavior in his life. I am VERY Proud of my Father.
But as a young child I hated my Father. I resented my Father. His meetings where more important then his family ( not then realizing His sacrifice).
I would set in the kitchens at these meetings waiting to tear down, and go home. And I would sit and listen to how well my Dad was respected, by the other members.
My Dad sponsored many, many members, helping countless people put their lives back together. Where was my Dad for me, He was out in the middle of the night picking up a drunk, that went on a binge.
I used to Hate AA. They respected my Father, When I DIDN"T !!
How could they talk about this Man when I knew my Dad better then they.
As I grew older I realized that I was the one who didn't know my Father.
And thank God He lived long enough for me to get to know the Man he was.

I know this is rather long winded to get to one simple point.
I think part of what RIY is feeling is resentment at THR members because Her Dad was well respected on this forum.
I understand that what happened to you, and your Father are nothing compared with relationship with my Dad.
I am unaware of who your Father was on this forum, but all I, and anyone else can do is take people at face value. Don't base your opinions of THR because we were presented to a different person that you knew.

Interesting to read about a journalist who dislikes guns. The very freedom of speech for a journalist and freedom to have guns to keep it that way, I feel are somehow connected. Someone should enumerate rights like that somewhere.

I only wish that throughout history in some of the places already mentioned and in current places like Darfur that people had the same rights. I bet many folks in those places and times would rather have a gun than mighty words.

Her dogs may be big, and her dogs may be hungry, but they're still just dogs. We here are human beings, and we have things like logic and reason and intelligence on our side. Don't worry.

Well we are a legion too. We are the people who stand up to defend this country. We are the ones who are ready to defend not only our family but our neighbors, friends and fellow countrymen. We are not the ones (sheep) to go running into the hills when things go wrong. We are the ones that get the job done. I am very suprised that you even posted here. Most Antis would not even have the courage. It is easy for me to go anywhere and say that i am an American. I am a gun owner and i belive in my rights to own a gun. Same time i am not going to try to convince you that guns are ok. You have already made your choice. You seem to be some what educated. Have you looked into and studied what happens when countries take away the guns from there countrymen. Im sure we can educate you if you would like. However i am sure this will go no where. Just like your post. If your a real journalist then all i am asking is about the same as everyone else here. When you post or write something about guns and gun ownership. Get the facts together correctly. Dont just contact the Brady organization and all the mothers on your sons soccer team. Ask real people real questions. I have been using firearms for almost all my life. Its a part of me. I am not a killer, i am not a hunter. I have never shot or killed any living being. I shoot recreational. however you may not understand that. This is why we try to take people with us that dont like guns. Why because they are predjudice. They past judgment on things they dont know. Rather on things they only hear. I have too taken people that knew nothing of guns. Who only knew about guns from what they read or heard about in the media or by others. Then you take them with you to a shooting range they see hold feel the guns. You teach them about the guns. They shoot the guns. then they learn there is another side of shooting one which the JOUNALIST dont tell you about. There is a side of pride of accomplishment. Learning heritage and forefathers. I do not have a CCW i do not carry a gun with me. I am happy that some people are trying to educate others in this country by open carrying firearms. Its all about education. Education that you seem to not get. Maybe you should have talked to your father more. If you ask logical questions you will get logical answers. If you try to personally attack a forum like this. Then you will get no where. Sorry the truth Hurts.

...and it hasn't been three hours yet, but really, there's no point, now is there?

Thanks to everyone for participating, especially those who didn't just pop in, take the time to increase the thread size by posting "Troll!" and leave.

reply to Riy took too long to write

thread was closed but I want to post anyway maybe she is reading them.

note 1

Why do you call us sheep?

well, what else requires
shepards, sheepdogs and more or less constant supervision (there aught to be a law re....)
freedom, it's about personal responsibility, and self disipline.
actions or refusal to take action can have dire consequences
see www.jpfo.org about 200 million casualities on various gov't sanctioned genocide in the 20th century alone.

Why do you assail the fact that some of us, like me, choose to live in San Francisco?

couldn't care less where you live. I don't willingly travel anywhere I'm civilly disarmed in the face of felonious violence (see note 1.)

Why does our concern with the environment and healthcare result in invective?

see note one people are responsible for their own healthcare

1. Hunters/Anglers spend $$ on environmental protection and habitat maintence again not the .gov's job nor is it chartered to do that

2. Uncle Sugar is not constutionally required or chartered to provide it.

last note:
So, the next time you feel like hurling wisdom at us, the next time your own brush feels heavy and wanting for a target, consider that there are a few of us who haven't yet decided which ring to throw our dogs in. And our dogs are big. And our dogs are hungry.

hmm would usually say good luck there, we are somewhat expecting such foolishness. Not looking forward to it but expecting it none the less.

You say you are a journalist, please read the constution, all of it, not just your favorite parts, it runs about 17 pages in 10 or 12 point font. or see it
online at
http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html

re read it

read the part where it lists congress's duties.

look at your notes.

we are a constutionaly chartered representative republic.

a .gov that would disparage one right probably would discount them all.
The note about the pen being mighter that the sword, seriously, look at what good all the ink in the world has done for Rhodesia and Burma (I used those as I can spell them)

My condolences on the passing of your father, mine is in latter stages of lukemia(sp?) even now I have to somewhat steel myself when talking to him, as in will this be the last time I hear from him.

Unlike your experience I have seen The Man literally jump into a mile wide river running at full flood to pull my stupid hide out. I hope that your own children have better models than you had. Apparently so, as you did say almost grown.

I had several good models to look at growing up and even coming late to 2a/civil rights I worked for some time making very sure that voting rights were respected. I was born down the road from vote fraud central in TX (Duval County) so I pretty much demand the franchise be respected and protected.

I'm always irked by 'liberals' who disconect when nattering about civil rights they 'like' (voting, early and often See Daly Chicago, 20th century) and disparage others 2A, grand jury, civil process, innocent til proven guilty etc).

You say you are a journalist I'd like to know if you have ever in a editoral meeting said, " the police have a suspect but let's see what the grand jury/trial have to say before smearing this individual"

I expect to only here crickets on that one
I've too often seen news rooms latch on to whom ever the suspect de jour is

see the Olympic bombing to refresh you memory, an innocent man hounded to what end?

just must sell more papers.

btw he probably saved a few lives warning the park police/security of the package he found, didn't do himself any good, did it?

go reread the constutition

respectfully submitted,

I say keep posting. She is still reading. She has her username set as invisible. check her usernme public profile last activity was at 749. So she may not be responding but she is reading. You cant change everyone but you educate.

By the way my profile is also set to invisible. notice i dont have the green circle.

7 pages responding to a troll without even the basics of a good argument/debate.

Why the bother?

Oh by the way it's usually a bad idea to try to reopen a locked thread so I am...... IBTL :)

A lot of interesting responses. I had no idea there was a deadline for OPs to respond. I'd have sworn I've seen lots of these open for days, during which time the OP drops in and out. Had I known, I would have waited for a day off so I could sit by my computer and do this semi-realtime.

As it is, it will take me a day or so to get back to this (provided there is a thread open to return to).

I do look forward to responding however :)

riy...before your post i never knew you existed, or your views on firearms or those in the RKBA community.
before i posted this, you had no idea i existed, nor do you really know anything about me.
it's rather foolhardy to think that you can make any generalizations about anyone on this board aside from the fact that we all share a common interest in firearms.
there are things to be learned from everyone...pro or anti.
some of the best lessons on here have nothing to do with guns.
search posts by sm.

my question for you is....if you have a negative attachment to guns because of your father, is being on here(THR) reinforcing your dislike or potentially opening your eyes to different viewpoints?? is there really a point?
