I have been convinced to purchase a new Micro Compact 9mm from the Members of THR. A special thanks to @WrongHanded, @CDW4ME , @Armored farmer, @.308 Norma. And many other enablers of the forum...

Now the hard part, which one ?
S&W Shield Plus, SA Hellcat, Glock 43, Sig 365, Taurus GX4 and others.
I thought I had it narrowed down to 2.
Shield Plus or Hellcat.

I went into a LGS (Local Ace Hardware) yesterday to try to make my final decision. Now I don't have anything against the others, I just felt the S&W or SA would fit my needs.

Well I made a purchase!?!?!?
20230309_145740.jpg I walked out with a Kimber R7 Mako.
I know WHAT??????
They were running a special on the kit in the picture. It includes 4 thirteen round magazines and an eleven round magazine. A nice carry bag, an ambidextrous inside the waistband holster. The pistol is really ambidextrous with slide & magazine releases on both sides.
I was able to handle the Smith, Springfield, and Kimber. The Kimber just felt the nicest in my hand with both magazine types.
I stopped by the range yesterday and again today to run a few rounds through the gun.

Low and right doesn't surprise me being a lefty, but my normal is high and right. I have ran 115 FMJs and 115 HPs through the gun.
No problems :)
I did stop and buy some 147 FMJs with a flatter point. I hope there POI are a little higher.
I guess my only question is did I make a good choice? When I start carrying it I will more than double my capacity over my j frames .

Very nice. Seems to be working for you right out of the box. I would also have been tempted, also a southpaw.

Whilst I can't speak to the particular model, conceptually you made a great choice!

You've more than doubled your capacity, increased your reload speed, and reduced the cost of practice ammunition. Which is to say nothing of the performance increase you may see as you become more familiar with the pistol. You now also have a rail, which gives you options to add a light, laser, or combo. And if you want to try the red dot road, it looks like that should also be easy to mount.

The 147gr bullets will undoubtedly hit higher, and if you find it's too high, you might settle for the 124gr middle ground.

I can't tell but it appears the sights may be Truglo Tritium Pros?

Mako certianly seems the thickest of all the micros to me, and that's a good thing since most of them feel too danged small for my hands.

I've looked at one a few times and they seemed pretty nice!

It does have nice night sights.
Yes if the 147gr are still not where I want to be I will try the 124gr. I will probably try them anyway.
My ammo allowance has been spent for this month :( I may need to dip into next month's :p

The Truglo Tritium Pro sights (which yours really look like) are what I put on my G33. Overall they're the best quality factory night sights I've ever used. So that's a solid win.

I won't caution you against shooting next month's ammo this month. I'll encourage you instead. Just do it!

Good choice... I've heard nothing but good things from those that own them. I tried one out and didn't care for the way it fit in my hand. I think there's a pistol out there for everyone..they just have keep trying ythem out 'til they find "the one".

I didn't realize from the first pictures, but now I can see the slide has a window in it for brass ejection. That's interesting.
Yes, I scratch my head on that one!
Only 85 rounds through the pistol. I will need to see where the brass is landing in the snow.(I know reloading guys it's revolver time)

Blasphemy!

You'll return to the True Path in time, and once more the 442 shall be by your side...
I will not part with the 442. She is like an old friend. But with the night sights, after a few more rounds I will have a new nightstand gun in the Mako.

I handled one of those last time I stopped at a gun shop not far from me. I already had my Gx4, but, the Mako felt good, and is about the same size. I think it was a good choice for you.

You are so right about how a pistol fits your hand!
I always recommend that new shooters go to a rental range and try as many different options as they can.
I didn't take my own advice, but I feel that this will work out. I will know for sure after a thousand more rounds :thumbup:

Great looking pistol… looks like Kimber put some thought in the ejection port .. to protect the optic ..with a pistol , you have a fixed ejector.. so different ammo ( weight of bullet and pressure ) determines ejection pattern… I have seen were brass has done a number on optics .
