I'm looking for a place to shoot rifle in North East ohio. Cuyohoga, Lorain, Vermillion etc.

I had an application in with a local club but things fell through and looking for something else. 100 yard range minimum

I found a few that want like $200-300 to start and $100+ a year plus work hours so would like to stay away from anything like that as that's out of my price range.

I found a nice 100 yard club for $90 a year that had several spots so I sent the application in with the required initiation fee and was told someones family members got the spots over me. I waited for 3-4 months and they cashed the check and told me I was getting in to wait until the next months meeting-well those spots got filled by club family and I asked for my money back until I was going to have it in writing I was in. I was told if the money was sent back the application would be ripped up. took me another month to get my money back.

I have a few others but they want $250+ to start, work parties with minimum of 20hrs, sell raffle tickets, show to every meeting, etc. to me this is a bit much or is this the norm?

I almost joined an Izaak Walton League near Tiffin, Ohio. That club wanted you to attend some meetings and stressed volunteering time for certain events. But it wasn't expensive there. But I found another range closer to me. I think the fee was like $75 annually.

South Cuyahoga Sportsman's Assn in Medina County, located on Erhart Road in Chatham Township. They are big and have lots of activities, along with a 100 and 200 yard ranges.

The price and work hours are in your range.

There is also South Branch Rifle & Pistol in SE Lorain County off SR83, but I think there is a waiting list.

Required work hours seems pretty common for most ranges that depend on new members to help with grounds upkeep and $100/ year is cheap considering what you get; initiation fees aside.

The work parties is what turns me away as I work a lot. If you miss one they charge you like 15$hr and if you miss a meeting you have to let the higher ups know and why. What area are you in for a range that cheap?

I don't mind helping with work parties but the 2 clubs I checked guys said you get like an hour here, hour there and if you miss some your charged. I don't want to plan a day to work and get an hour towards 20 a year plus sell 50$ in tickets

Is this the club that does cowboy shoots and has like a saloon set up?

Good question as I am always looking too. I have been shooting at Kebly's for decades which is located in N. Lawrence. Kebly's Range. The link has everything you could want to know.

For me sitting here in the SE Cleveland Suburbs (Bedford Heights) it's generally a little under an hours ride. Real nice range and well groomed out to a 200 yard line. Also short ranges for rimfire and handgun.

Next real nice sunny day I hope to get down there as I have several rifles waiting and a few handguns. :) I am not sure how far it would be for you. Any range for me (outdoor ranges) is at least an hour to get away from population density. Anyway, I like Kebly's and the place is serious shooters like the benchrest guys but anyone can shoot there. They do have the super shoot every year so the range is closed for about a week but attending a super shoot is fun.

Thanks Ron. I used to go to grandriver target range ran by ODNR in west Farmington but its a little far plus I had words with the range guy there because you must be behind the yellow line when people are down range so no one is messing with their guns. well he was shooting and didn't get behind the line but when I stepped forward to grab my bottle of water and phone off the bench he proceeded to scream at me and tell me do that again and I'm gone and never allowed to come back. All my guns were still in the case. I then started traveling to Coshocton-woodbury target range cause they have 200yard range and no one yelling at you.

Kebly's is sort of laid back. Since the range is privately owned there are only range fees unlike a club which has work details or work parties. Personally after likely 20 years of memberships I like the place and it is normally quiet. I can share this, if you plan to empty an AK 30 round magazine in 15 seconds this is not where you want to be. No clue the distance from you. Most good clubs are wait listed. Originally the rate was $100 a year.

This year I have plans for the ODNR range down in Deleware County for the kids and more important grand children. Guess we will see how that works out but I want o get the kids shooting more. While my own kids are not shooters I see potential in the grandchildren. :)

Kebly's is worth a look and consideration. Damn. I want nice weather! :)

Im near Sandusky vermillion area your range is 70-75+ miles away.

As far as the AK-Rapid fire. Im a bolt gun and handgun shooter. Never seen the sense of dumping a mag into a hillside. I like making ragged holes with my bolt actions.

I guess a bit far. Anymore a good range is hard to find. :(
