Just found out yesterday (I missed the article in the paper) that my creepy neighbor plea-bargained on federal pornography charges. He is only supposed to get only 30 months (instead of 20 years) and doesn't even get officially sentenced until June 8. He will still be loose until then.
This isn't one of those "puritan" type things (I am pretty "open minded"), but the stuff he was selling was apparently real hardcore and brutal. I'm not sure if the videos were acted or were tapes of actual crimes.
I'm not sure why the govt would accept this plea since they probably have already incurred most of the expense of prosecution and it appears they had more than a solid case against him, except that he is supposed to testify against someone else yet more involved in the making and selling of this stuff.
I suppose though that it is better for the court and the innocent jurors not to have to look at all that stuff in order to reach a verdict.
They also may fine him up to $250,000. I don't know if that means that he will have to sell his place or not. If not, I don't like to think about who he might be letting live there while in prison
Anyway, this means we have to stay on high security alert, at least until June 8. But at least the daylight is getting longer. I have plastered both sides of his easement through our land with "no trespassing" signs
Also, we have been doing fuel reduction for wildfire protection purposes, but it also clears out a lot of hiding places near the house.
