Neighbors... pro or anti?

Neighbor on my right is former-Army, knows I own and carry, and says that if the SHTF that he'll come get me. I don't think he owns but at least he acknowledges that I may be able to help him if things get bad. We both have a long-running feud with a rental property nearby that always seems to get rented by drug dealers (meth, for the most part) so we're pretty security minded about our properties.

Neighbor on the left . . . don't know. Haven't talked to them much. He's retired Army, too, but that doesn't mean much nowadays as far as pro v. anti goes.

Neighbor across the street has a couple of teenage kids, one of whom shot out my upstairs windows (during our move-in) with a BB gun. I confronted the kid (dad wasn't home) and explained to him my background and the fact that in the dark a BB gun pointed at my house really looks like a real rifle and that I would probably have to respond with overwhelming force . . . haven't had a problem since. Don't want to meet the dad and probably never will.

One of my best friends lives about two blocks away. He's a discharged Marine . . . wouldn't want to be the poor sod that breaks into his house in the middle of the night.

Our area is pretty much conservative/neo-conservative. If it weren't for the I-5 corridor through Olympia, Tacoma and Seattle, Washington would be a state that would be overwhelmingly pro-gun. Unfortunately all everyone hear's out of WA is what Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia vote.

Neighbor on the West; I take his kids to the range now & then.
Neighbor to the East, he's dropped by while I was cleaning guns in the garage, no comment either way from him. He's pretty conservative politically though.
New neighbor across the street is a state trooper, still need to introduce myself.

Currently unknown......Yes, Tamara, as much as I would enjoy your wit here with some of the sheeple, I agree with you. We need a purchase permit for every handgun you buy here and to get one, you need 2 character witnesses to answer several questions.

So true

I live in the community known in the area as LE Acres. Over two thirds of the Enforcement community lives in this sub-division.

Corner house next to mine north: Property Appraiser - fanatic bird hunter, three very well trained hunting dogs. Avid gun collector. Pissed off at NRA. I conned him into joining 8 years ago - took 7 months for him to hear from them, asking him to renew, never received membership card, mags, nothing. He wasn't receptive to that offer and made it a point to bring it over to show to me. Wife is the clerk at City Hall in neighboring town - wants one of my Walthers. :uhoh:

Neighbor south: older lady - no interest or opinion about guns. Said it was my job to protect her if needed. Told neighbor south of her same thing.

Two houses south: Postal Sup. Organizes turkey shoots at his farm at least three times a year.

Three houses south: Police Officer, wifes a banker.

Corner south: Juvie Detention Center Officer.

Caddy-corner house - Former Navy SEAL, now deep diving welder. Nickname "Tank". 'Nuff said.

Across the street: retired military. Radical gun nut. Bears watching.

Across the street one house south: County Sheriff.

Across the street two houses south: DA

Across the street three houses south: DB [dumb blond] married to an idiot. Nice enough guy - just dumber than a plank. Career Convenience Store clerk.

Across the street four houses south: State Police Officer.

New Mexico is an NFA state. We're passing CCW as I type. Blew through the Senate like crap through a goose, now in the House moving just as fast.

Me? Retired Military, Gun Junkie, motorcyclist. Active in firearms legislation watches during sessions. Have word/Bill watchers set for anything remotely related to the words gun, handgun, firearm, weapon - etc.

I guess we're all pretty firearms friendly here.

We have a mixed bag. The woman on one side is former Army Medical Corp Major, not a gun owner, but likes having me next door. Women on other side are an oh so PC pair 'alterantive lifestyle ladies'. I got one coming along, may be able to take her shooting sometime, her partner is disgusted with the whole idea, but allows as how I'd likely get there before the cops (I have pointed out that I am not the police, but we're good enough neighbors that she knows I wouldn't ignore a cry for help-). Don't know about the guy behind me (he's from Guatamala), but his son is a Marine (and he's very proud of him). The other guy behind me has a coupel of AK's and an SKS in addtion to shotguns for hunting.

We've lived here for over 20 yrs, know most of the other neighbors. Of those with whom the topic has come up ,a few who are ambivalent or of the 'what do you need a gun for?' persuasion (though one of them wanted to borrow a pistol after we had a warm burglary two yrs ago:eek: ), and a couple of stereo-.typical knee-jerk soccer mommies Also in the mix is have a retired Fairfax Co detective (hunter, reloader, NRA pistol instructor), a couple of CIA types, retired Secret Service (just moved though), the rest I don't know about. All in all, not bad for inside the beltway NOVA:cool:

Note to self: Do NOT move to NJ. Ever

The only consolation is ... for now, we still can buy handguns, but .... as soon as someone comes up with "smart gun" technology (that has to be only 80% reliable) 3 years after that you will only be able to buy "smart guns" even if there is only ONE brand and model so equipped.

"Last person to leave NJ ... please shut the lights off"

Immediately to my left, my uncle. Korean war vet. Pro-gun but doesn't own any. That is OK, because if needed, he would end up with one of mine. Next to him, staunch anti's. If they ever need my help, too bad. I have no compassion for people who are that close-minded and simple.
For example, they voted for Clinton because they thought he looked nice.

Next door neighbor: Owns but never shoots. Couple across the street: own, camp & shoot. Their next-door neighbor: NRA mamber, probable shotgun owner, but never shoots.

Now for the OTHERS: they are either liberals, socialists, collectivists or too timid to even contemplate the idea of firearms ownership for sporting purposes.

In other words, a pro-firearms hotbed, in this State of California.

I know some of them are nazi about little things, but I am not sure about guns. They all know that I have guns. I take my guns out a lot. They have all seen me loading them into my car or truck. My car is a "Probable Cause" machine with all the stickers over it. I did it as a joke. The driving lights and trphy on the hood are a nice touch too.

I take guns over to my best friend's house all the time. Most of the neighbors are yuppie types, but never say anything. They are used to me driving up, having two guns visible on my belt, carrying a shotgun to the door.

The best time was when the house two doors down was for sale. It is in a cul-de-sac, so you can see everything that goes on. The real estate agent was showing a couple the house and they were walking out the front door as I pulled up in my big red Dodge Ram. I grabbed my Mossberg 500 that was a police trade-in and looks non-pc. I stepped out of my truck and racked the slide to make sure it was unloaded. They gave me some odd looks. I waived to them and said "welcome to the neighborhood." They did not buy the house though.

A couple of weeks ago a neighbor was taking out the trash and caught someone breaking into her car. She screamed and the guy took off, couldn't make a corner and flipped his car on another neighbors property. He was gone by the time I got outside and other neighbors were starting to come out like ***?!

Cops came right away and set up a perimeter and the neighbors started talking. There were three "I went to get my gun when I heard the noise" (it sounded really bad) but I didn't say anything. Two other neighbors didn't come out... one is LEO and the other just got out of the Marines...

Guess my neighbors are pro-firearms too.

My brother said just yesterday that if TSHTF he and his roomate are coming to my house to set up a defensive point.

I told him to just bring their own ammo.

He asked what kind would be the best.

I replied to just bring ammo I could make it fit in something:D

One comment surprised me. I've always assumed someone's pro unless proven otherwise. When proven otherwise, my response is, "That's disappointing, I always thought you'd side with reason, logic and the lessons of history, rather than hysteria and deception," then walk away shaking head.

The better the person's opinion of you, the more profound the impact. I've taught two such to shoot. Neither are anti any more.

Moved here 8 years or so ago, and, since it was legal, pulled out the M1A and fired 20. Since I was from one of "those" states, put the weapon away, picked up the brass, and waited for reactions.

It being a nice, sunny Sunday, within half an hour or so, I had weapons firing 360 degrees around me.

No clue on what the wives thought...

These days, in job related testing, I bring an M4 home with 2K of ammo, and proceed to do "recoil testing", on full auto.

I usually get a couple of neighbors coming over to see just what I've got that's making interesting
noises.

I guess I'm a truely scary person!

But I do have good neighbors, and, shooting aside, I try to be one too.

So should you.

I would guess my nearest neighbors are anti. Never discussed it with them. Both are shrinks, and she is a university professor. What does that tell you? Very nice people, but I think they would be a bit shocked to know that I sleep with an AR-15. Oh well.

Neighbor below me used to be a dealer, still has his FFL, and a fairly impressive collection.

Neighbor across the way is a prison guard.

Seems like most of the people around here are pro-gun in that "Doesn't everybody have a gun?" sort of rural way.

Not many seem like enthusiasts.

Most of my neighbors are not only pro-gun, but own them as well. We are a well armed neighborhood, with a neighborhood watch program in force, and there's very little trouble here.

We wouldn't have it any other way.:D
