Took a trip to the range today to shoot (among others) my G26 with .22 conversion kit. I was out of Golden Bullets, so I stopped at Walmart to resupply. I know, they are dirty, have a high rate of failing to fire, bullets are often malformed, but for some strange reason, they actually work fairly well in the Advantage Arms kit (Mini-mags work great, but cost a lot more to plink with).

Anyway, at Walmart, instead of the usual 550 round box of GBs, they have 225 round boxes marked "new and improved". I was going to buy some anyway, so I picked up a couple boxes.

Opening them up, they looked more uniform than usual. Burned up 225 rounds with NO DUDS- very unusual for GBs in my experience, and two rounds that failed to chamber- less than normal.

I'm hoping Remington has perhaps listened to all the complaints about their ammo and has stepped it up a little on QC.

I just got home from Wal-Mart and there were None of these "New & Improved" Golden Bullets of which you speak.
I'm way down here in FL, so maybe it'll just take a while for them to trickle on down to me.
But yes, this does sound promising. ~ :)

Sounds promising but I think I will wait at least a year before trying them due to wariness of past .22 crap from Remington .:barf: I even had some of the older ones that were given to me that I did not bother shoot. I just took the leads off them to remelt and spread the propellant on the lawn. Had fun smashing the brass on a rock with a hammer so I could recycle them.

A Friend back home promised me that Remmington 22 Ammo was in the process of being restored the quality they had back in the 1970's and early 80's. He works at the Lonoke AR ammo factory.

I was so upset at the performance of the old golden bullets, and Remingtons denial of knowing that I happily found out how great (and cheap) the Blazer 22s are. It will take a lot to get me to go back to goldens when there is a choice.

My walmart has that 225rd golden bullet for $10 a box. I haven't tried them yet..

I'll give them a shot, if they're that much better. I never found them great, but rarely had much actual issue.

I was figuring "new and improved" meant that the new box improved your time by giving you less you needed to use up. :D

I honestly havent noticed a difference other than the 50'rounds they short me for the price. They are the ones that feed most reliable in my beretta bobcat. Here in ohio, the 550's were $19.98 & now the 225's are 9.99. Someone was telling me that down in nc, bulk packs run from 13-15. I dont shoot much 22 anymore because now thatnim reloading, its cheaper to shoot 380's and 38's @ $2 a box

All the value packs here where $14-$15 a box of 550 just a month ago. Now all the brands are $18.99-$19.99 a box..Thats for rem, winchester and federal.

"new and improved ! "

More like, " OLD and restored. "

What a horrible marketing strategy." we're going back to the way it was"

Shows you how bad it currently is....

At least they are fixing it.but created habits die hard. I have no doubt the new packaging is designed to shake the mentality of the "new, now old " old broken gold bullets.

I hope it's better.

Another good source of bulk is ALWAYS welcome, I don't care who makes it.

I bought a few cases of this ammo about a decade ago. Each case was 6250 rounds. Paid $95/case and haven't had any duds in my MK II, Marlin 15YN, Marlin 60. I did have a few in the 10/22, but that POS did that with ANY brand.

I'll agree CCI's have always been the best as far as reliability AND accuracy, but the Remingtons have been provided a lot of fun plinking time

I'm a big fan of Blazer bulk also and run it in most of my guns. Unfortunately, they don't work well in my AA kit either. I'm just glad that it appears the quality of the bulk brand that runs the best in it seems to have been improved.

On a similar note, I have an older S&W Model 18 that is kind of finicky as well. Chambers are rather tight and some brands (including premium stuff) are hard to get in or won't properly seat after it has been the least bit fouled.

Kind of a pain to remember what brands work in what guns.

i have shot 4 or 5, 525 packs with fairly decent performance. if i have had 4 or 5 fail to fire in each box, it was a lot. and most of those, if i turned them 180 degrees, most would light the next time through. so yes, i agree, there is a lack of priming compound on some of them. i have had a few that would not light, after up to 6 times thru whatever i am shooting. so those had zero priming compound. i understand that in as high of quantity as they make these things, every once in a while, that is going to happen. i have had some of every brand i have ever shot not fire also though. but if Remington is addressing the problem, it has to be a bigger problem that what i have had. i will try a new and improved box. for me, accuracy is more important than a few ftf's. unfortunately, both of my 22's like another bulk brand better than the Remington s. but i am always looking to better the results.

With Remington's poor track record, I see no reason to switch from the tried-and-true Federal bulk that I run in my .22's. The new and improved Golden Bullets may work, but I know the Federal stuff works.

I have enough Winchester and Federal bulk packs that I don't really feel any pressing need to try this "New and Improved" Remington ammo any time soon. Everything I'm using works just fine now and I think I have wasted enough of my time, money, and effort on the "Old and Useless" Golden Bullets of the past.

Since the RGBs have been lousy for the past dozen years or so, I'll wait to hear good reports for the next dozen years or so before putting any money out for their stuff again.

I hate to think of all the phone calls I made to Remington complaining about their crummy .22 golden bullet ammo. No one knew what I was talking about and no one cared. For years I thought .22 ammo was supposed to be crappy until I tried some CCI and ohters.

Sorry Remington I'm not looking back.
