New range rule: give us your DL

Actually, you did... HK P7, right hand IWB in the map pocket of your car, since you're left handed.

Posting search, fifteen seconds. ;)

They do the same at my local indoor range. The place is always so busy and so many people in the show room, it would be easy for someone coming off the range to walk right out. They collect and settle up when you are done. Don't know if this is the reason or part of the reason but makes sense to me. Why would you have a problem with it. Get over it.

I'm pretty conscious of protecting my identity but if you can't trust a hardworking American who owns or operates a shooting range then who can you trust? They are just trying to be accountable for who is discharging firearms on their facility and if you have ever been to a range you can probably attest to the fact that they draw a fair share of kooks and wackos at times. There are some things an evil minded person can do with your drivers license but its pretty limited. Do you same people who refuse to hand over a DL at the range refuse to hand over a credit card to be swiped by someone other than yourself? A waiter taking your card to pay the bill can write down your numbers and expiration date in a heart beat. Do a google search on card skimmers also. Unless you are physically inspecting the machine they swipe your card with, they can easily lift your credit card info in a split second. The equipment to do this is hard to detect and can be had for as little as a hundred bucks or so. This is the stuff I worry about more. I'm not too worried about some guy at the range, who probably has the same values as me, knowing my height weight and address. (All of which can be easily obtained by just about anyone) Besides, DMV is full of crooked malcontents who have all of this at their fingertips anyway.

If you're comfortable with it, fine, different strokes and all that. I'm not, and would probably not patronize a place that does, not when I have so many alternatives. And frankly, given the tenor of the responses I 've had here, I am ASSuming that this tinfoil wouldn't welcome by the other patrons anyway. (Reference to previous comments)

OK, this thread is just going in circles, so I'm done. Feel free to post something clever so you can say you had the last word, crack a beer and say 'hey I sure showed that *******.' A good belch is optional. ;)

I used to work in a bar some years ago back before everyone had a debit card, especially college age people. Those wishing to run a tab who did not have a credit card had to leave their drivers license to insure that they would not skip out. A few still did but they always came back in a few days with the cash to get their DL out of hock.

This really strikes me as No Big Deal. The range I go to does this, primarily, I'd guess, to ensure that no one skips out intentionally or unintentionally. I can think of a bajillion reasons why it makes sense for the owner of the range, and almost none that make it a problem for the customer.

Sometimes it just doesn't make sense to be ornery for the sake of being ornery.
