Bingo! Mine exactly. And a para ordnance p14.Winchester Model 1300 Defender 12 guage shotgun.
My wife has a Mauser HSc bedside, but I'm trying to sway her towards an SP101 or speed six loaded with 38spcl (she's not a fan of recoil)
The Mauser HSc is a sweet little pistol, and is on my gun "bucket list". It has been my experience that women who A) are not afraid of guns and B) not afraid of using them, will generally out-shoot their significant others and are often more than capable of putting a .380 ACP or .32 ACP through an eye socket at 20 feet. If she likes the gun and can hit with it, you might oughta let her run with it...just sayin'.
.
Oh, you're right. Our ladies seem to have a knack for firearms, and can put us to shame when they wanna!
She does love it, and is a pretty good shot with it. Slow, aimed fire, she is at least as good as I am with that HSc. doing double taps, I can bring it back online faster than she can.
But the real problem (in my mind) is that she will not do failure drills. It's been 100% reliable with my XTP loads, but it has been picky about other JHPs, and I can't get it out of my head that it'll decide to choke on the XTPs at just the wrong moment, and then she's SOL because she has no enthusiasm for practicing how to clear it. (Which can be a PIA with the HSc)
But with her DAO SP101, she really is a better shot with it than I am, can get them down range accurately pretty quickly, and handles reloads fine. A revolver in good shape with no high mileage wear issues is simply more reliable than a semi-auto. (Not wanting to start an argument...just MHO)
And reliability must come first.
Now that I've typed this.....maybe I'll load it with some FMJs and not worry too much more about it.
We have dogs too, but we have a strict no pets on the furniture rule, so they aren't allowed to sleep on the night stand...Currently two greyhounds with mouths full of "weapons".
Back up is an S&W M442.
