NOLA and California highway patrol

It's kind of bizarre you know,

This notion that a law can legitimize another law. After New Orleans, some States and some Locals are pushing for legislation that makes confiscation illegal. The 2nd Amendment already does that. In effect, they are trying to write and pass laws that forces the government to respect or adhere to the Constitution's Bill of Rights according to the proper interpretation/meaning.

How is this possible? That suggests that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are somewhat meaningless and that somehow a modern law can put some bite into these old documents bark.

This is all based in total absurdity. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are a contract between US and THEM. US being the people, THEM being the government. THEY have broken the contract about 1,000,000 times since the 1789.

Which brings us to the great question - what IS enforcement of the contract, or at least what IS morally acceptable form of dispute resolution between US and THEM?

We know that a law cannot make another law anymore serious, real, or legitimate. Laws, Constitutions, and social contracts are backed BY FORCE. When the government seeks to enforce a law, they don't ask you to comply, they make you comply - by FORCE.

We never make the government comply because we are cowards and we are weak. It is our nature, our disposition to be this way because we are often good-hearted, decent, peace-loving people. These sort of people always see the brighter side of things and always give the benefit of the doubt, give extra chances, allow abuse to continue because of their good will, and just like to get along and not rock the boat.

I hate to break it to some of you folks, many of whom have been brainwashed through years and years of government-run education and government approved media, that IT IS COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED TO SHOOT AUTHORITIES THAT VIOLATE OUR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS.

If you do NOT believe this, or believe this action to be extreme, radical or even criminal - than YOU are part of the problem. Our nation was born from such an action. Our nation was born from a revolution that began when civilians fired upon soldiers who were ordered to confiscate their firearms.

Cops are fine. They are heroes. They are important. They are all things wonderful - until they become something other than cops. When they become murderers, or confiscators, or the strongmen of tyranny - they are no longer cops, and no longer Americans. They are traitors guilty of the highest treason.

Sorry, "I was only following orders" doesn't count anymore...

Sorry, "I was only following orders" doesn't count anymore...

Hasn’t counted since Neurenberg, post war trials of Japanese prison camps, mei li or most recently abu-grabe. If you’re a solider or a Law enforcement officer and you don’t know an unlawful order when you see it, find out. Pick up a copy of the constitution and bill of rights, because in the end it will be you hanging out to dry when all the smoke clears and the scum who gave you the order will probably walk. Case in point New Orleans.

Well sir, I shot the villagers in the ditch because the Lieutenant told me to sir…. Sounds weak doesn’t it.

Something about ignorance of the law or something?

This notion that a law can legitimize another law.

I see that as another feel good; throw the unwashed masses a bone legislation. It avoids prosecuting the people who carried out the orders and the people who gave them. We are heading for a train wreck not unlike March 23, 1933. Some people already feel it is too late to stop the tide.

I'm not trying to mount a legal defense for the CHP officers on the video, my point is, who is more dangerous to all of our rights, personally? The individual loaned police officer, or the elected/appointed official who's supposed to be in charge who orders stuff like this? Sure, it was an outrageous incident, and yeah, there should be consequences for the officers, but should we really be singing and dancing when the officers caught on tape get canned and the people who ordered it walk off smelling like roses?

Mmm, sacrificial lamb, tasty... what was all the fuss about again? Nevermind, totally satisfied, nap time.

I agree, they should hang them side by side and maybe the rest will get a clue.

Well, it's a step in the right direction.

Eddie Compass III resigned in disgrace.
Warren Riley was promoted into Eddie's job.
Ray Nagin has lost the mayor's election, the votes just haven't been cast yet.
Kat Blanco has lost the governor's election, the votes just haven't been cast yet.
Kat Blanco is presently trying to kill a recall petition.

It is a shame that you cannot get conspiracy charges for issuing an unlawful order. Perhaps you can.

So it's the cop's fault for writing the ticket that the councilman tried to interfere with and that's why all cops are pigs?
You certainly are confused -- among other things, the only person around here referring to LEOs as "pigs" is you!

In the quoted incident, it appears the Councilman is at fault; we have no testimony from the ticketed driver.

A similar incident was reported when New Jersey State Police, returning to NJ from NOLA in a convoy, roared through Virginia, sirens and lights on, well above the speed limit, reportedly running some drivers off the road and were not in hot pursuit; some of the NJ fellows were pulled over and ticketed by Virginia State Police and the head of the NJ's State Police was furious. Not at his officers -- at the Virginia state cops for ticketing them!

How many shifty mechanics do you 'know'?

Ever meet a crooked lawyer?

Taxi drivers?

Ever got bad service at a restaraunt?

Maybe a bad haircut, even?

If any or all of these things happened to you, then is it safe to conclude that ALL mechanics, and ALL lawyers, and ALL taxi drivers, and ALL restaraunt employees, and ALL barbers are now on your poo-poo list.

You know...because all of them are just out to get you...and the sycophants who defend them too.
No one posting to this thread has condemned all policemen; the only person who has suggested any such thing is you. Did you raise those two noids up yourself?

Peace officers are held to a higher standard of behavior; unlike mechanics, taxi drivers, waitpersons, hairstylists, barbers and attornies, they are not paid by their immediate clients; this puts them under less pressure to keep the customer happy. Unlike mechanics, taxi drivers, waitpersons, hairstylists, barbers but not attornies, they represent the laws of the land, -- and unlike most lawyers -- with the full force of the government behind them and a wide array of weapons, many prohibited to other citizens, at their hip or otherwise available. For those reasons, even casual infringement on the rights of citizens by law enforcement officers must not be winked at.

The disarming of persons offering no harm that was done in New Orleans was by no means "casual." The men who did it deserved to be shot dead on the spot. That they were not speaks well indeed for the good nature of the law-abiding citizen. That they have not been brought up on charges by their departments or any branch or level of government speaks very badly for all of those institutions. That the shooting of alligators is rated more heinous by at least one police agency than forcibly disarming non-criminal inhabitants of New Orleans is unspeakable.

Hooray for all the good and great police men and women out there. Heck, a cheer even for the ones who are merely competent and refrain from abusing their office. They do much good, tolerate tough jobs and are generally underpaid. But the gun-grabbers of New Orleans? It is my opinion that giving them a perfectly fair trial followed by a public hanging would be barely adequate, and the same goes for those who gave them their orders.

It strikes me that once they start violating the laws that they've sworn to uphold that they are no longer "police", just another law breaker. As such they deserve no more than any other law breaker. Perhaps they deserve less for abusing our trust.

None of us hear have anything against the real policemen of our country. Just the false pretenders that are the law breakers with a badge.

Looks like it's Game, Set, and Match to Herself! :D

And with style, too!

Well done, Ma'am.

Whoa there, pardner. SOMEONE here will be accusing you of trying to "get a date" with Herself. Typical behavior of just the types we don't need in law enforcement. Condescending, arrogant, paranoid...

"Since they despise the JBT's who trounced that little old woman, and tucked tail and ran when met by an attorney with resolve, they must hold the same opinion of all LE's and are "painting with a broad brush" (apparently the only comeback he's ever mastered). Hmmmm....wonder if he's ever had a date with anyone himself...might explain some of his angst.

Gentlemen, I'm married and in sight of 50 years. Okay, I have to use a spotting 'scope but it's closer than 30. There will be no dating and there aren't a lot of offers these days. (Dang! It's not like I don't work out...!) However, any of you is welcome to buy me lunch. ;)

It's still fun to be cheered on! But save your bestest cheers for the good LEOs; there are plenty of those and they don't get cheered much.

I just think the pic that Mr.Volk posted at the beginning would
make an excellent political statement on a brand new white
t-shirt as in silk screen. I'd buy one, more likely more than one.

BG, not to suggest ever violating anyone's copyright (ask first!) or run down all the very nice silk-screened and direct-print T-shirts out there, but have you heard of iron-on transfer paper? Ink-jet and laser printer versions are available from a variety of sources.

Thanks for the heads-up, H. Hadn't dawned on me to do so.
Looks Like Mr.Volk is way ahead of the game.

How is this possible?......

Because in 200+ years, the SCOTUS "has never directly ruled on the meaning of the Second Amendment, despite having had a variety of opportunities to do so. This has left supporters on all sides of the debate open to interpret the actions of the court as they see fit."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

I think you can also blame a very liberal public education system and mass media, which has steadily drilled into the Americans that guns are "bad".

When I see a Jay Leno "J-Walk" interview, I am reminded of just how much about the government the general public bothers to learn.

BTW - Oleg. The shirts rock. I'm looking for the one which has the woman's eye close-up and states "Tell me again how disarming me will make you safer" from your website.

LOL, Meplat. :)

Herself said she's in sight of 50. Wish I was, but it's WAY back in the rear-view mirror.

Herself, if you'll help me with my walker, my wife and I will be happy to buy you AND your husband lunch next time you're down in Texas. :D

;) There's an alligator farm right down the road a piece, and they have a nearby resteraraunt that serves one mean blackened 'gator. Make it a party of six and a with a six pack of Abita beer, and perhaps I can talk the wife into making a toast to thank the CHP for leaving us the hell alone, going back to Feinsteinland, and taking their "help" with them!

Quoted for truth. Shame that there's so many supposedly pro-gun folks here who do not agree with these statements. You either understand how liberty works and how America was setup, or you simply do not. Many don't have the faintest idea and to think they are out trying to defend gun-rights. This is why we get "pro-gun" bills that are really anti-gun because they increase regulation, restriction, or open the door to future gun control.
I'm glad to see that there are some people here who "get it."
Oh Christ. Here it comes again. The Flake and Nut parade.
M-Rex, please accept my invitation to go make love to yourself. Seeing as how you are from California, I'm sure you are very familiar with the process.

Today's lesson: This is what happens when you disrespect and ridicule other people - you are responded to in kind.

+1, Herself!
Not everything police do is automatically okay.
And again.
I'm all in favor of the police...right up 'til the Boys in Blue try disarming me under NOLA-disaster conditions, at which point I will conceal and lie first in order to give the officers a chance to back down and shoot only if I must. But make no mistake: I'm not as nice as the grandmother in the video: I will shoot.
And again!!

Careful there, son.

Don't be lumping all of us here in CA with the brain dead. Educate yourself to the fact that there are a great number of "red staters" once you get away from the big cities.

Oh, IBTL.
