Opinion Of Sigma?

Anyone that is comparing a sigma to a glock has got to be high on crack. The glock is proven design that can go 100000 rounds out of the box with no problem, I'll wager no sigma has ever had that much shot out of it.

I would take a police trade in glock with 30000 rounds through it over 5 new sigmas.

Police trade in glock= $350-400

sigma= $300

Is your life really worth $50-100?

As for being a gun snob, I don't see how calling a turd a turd makes me a snob. I'm far from a snob I drive an econo car, but it works, well. Glocks are Econo guns, but they work, well. That said I love my hks more than any other gun I've shot. My glock is my night stand gun. If valuing well made products makes me a snob then so be it.

Maybe you knocked it around prior? bad re-holster? drop it? swing it around and bump something? Before you owned it when it was put on display or fondled by previous lookers it could have been hit?..

Geesh

The front sight on my Dan Wesson PM7 wiggled loose..... The gun is now garbage and i want nothing to do with it.... i think i'll wait for a guns for cash trade in and get $50 for it.

I think i may retire one of my sigma's for a "Glock Torture test"....

I have no doubt my sigma's are that durable.

I had owned it for three days.

One of the magazines did a torture test on it when it first came out, it was one of the things that convince me to buy it. They cranked 100,000 rounds through it, only periodically dipping it in kerosene, and THEIR slide stop spring broke too.

I have never shot a sigma but I have handled them.

I personally think the horror stories of how bad their trigger is, are overrated.

The trigger is not that bad and certainly no worse then alot of DA revolvers.

As far as I know you can send it off to a warranty center to and get the trigger worked on for free (shipping included) and that supposedly smooths things up by quite a bit.

I personally think they and the Ruger P 95 offer good value for the money and I would buy one myself if I was on a tight budget.

Yes other pistols are more refinded but they cost at least twice as much.

The sigma might be the best value 40 S & W on the market. (P95 is 9mm only)

People need to remeber not every can plunk down $600 on a new glock or whatever, I think the Sigma gives people a good quality auto for not alot of money.

I am happy with mine, even though I am not a fan of plastic guns, I prefer metal.

I got mine new for $216 out the door (was a display and got a manufactures $50 rebate). I like that the trigger pull is hard and DAO, as this is one of my home defense firearms, and if I am nervous enough to pull it out, I don't want an accidental discharge if there should be a sudden startle.

Is it my favorite, not even close, but is it worth what I payed for it, you bet! ;)

I think they are completely serviceable SD guns. A value for the money. They are not the best choice for an all around gun. This design is specifically for duty/SD use and it does very well in that role. As a primary range pistol, it's ok, but there are alot of better choices (that equals more money, btw). So, if you want one for carry and/or home defense, I can without reservation recommend it. You should try to shoot one first. Keep in mind that the trigger can be master (rather easily, I would say), but there is little you can do to lighten the pull that would not jeopardize reliability.

I don't know that I could agree with this paragraph any more completely and indeed I can and have recommended them for the same role as the guy above.

Better guns? Sure, lots of them. That doesn't mean the Sigmas are bad guns though...

More curiously, I also agree with this! I think that the P series are an excellent bunch of firearms. The P series are solid performers, built like tanks, and economical. If you want a .40, go with the P944 and be happy. I would, in general, recommend the P series over the Sigma, especially given the number of used P pistols on the market available at lower than new prices. The used Sigmas I have seen tend to be sort of cruddy, but they also tend to be the older, generally crappy models anyway.

I purchased a S & W 40 VE and it is a good bang for the buck. I got mine new with two mags and a S & W jacknife for $300.00 a couple of years ago.The trigger pull is a little heavy but it is not a target gun. Here in MA, triggers must register 10 lbs. S & W smoothed my trigger action a bit and it feels like 8 but it is still 10 lbs. I took it to a Saurez "Close Combat Handgun"course and put 2000 rounds thru it without jams. BTW, the course was a hoot. In my opinion , a great SD handgun.

If you want a SW autoloader, what about the M&P series?

The M&P is a great great pistol. I think this thread was more about looking for a Budget gun, which the M&P isn't. The M&P is right there in price with Glocks, FN, Sig's (polymer models), CZ's....

The new player out there is probably the Smith & Wesson Self Defense lineup. Its price is between the Sigma and M&P and the trigger (the biggest complaint of the Sigma) is more on point with the M&P and far superior to the Sigma.

I recently took my new Sigma 9mm to the range about 3 weeks ago. I'll say the trigger was a bit heavy. I'm told put about 1000 rounds through it and it will loosen up a bit. Over all, I really like my Sigma 9mm. Very happy!!

Nothing wrong with a Sigma, other than the trigger, and S&W will fix that for free if you call them and complain that it's gritty and heavy.

Really, they're one of the better new pistol deals out there right now.

The Taurus PT111, which the Sigma resembles in appearance, is very similar in price. Why get the Sigman when you could have the Taurus?

If you're going to buy a full size taurus, why not the 800 series, or better yet, the G2's? The G2's have all the latest upgrades, presumably including the fantastic trigger that Taurus has been putting in their new polymer pistols. (give one a try. when nobody was looking, taurus went and designed what is quite possibly the best striker trigger out there)

I think the SW9VE is great! Yes, Trigger is a bit hard. But I got used to it. Very dependable gun. I have not had any problems with it. I give it a thumbs up!

Taurus 24/7 G2

I second harmon rabb. The Taurus 24/7 G2 and the 800 are some of the best buys on the marketplace. People can hate on Taurus all they want, but in my opinion, their guns are just as good, if not better buys than some higher priced autoloaders.

I EDC a SW40VE and shoot it every chance I get. It shot 3" low at 20 feet (no matter who shot it) and I hated the front sight, so I bought a HiViz fiber-optic one for a GLock and installed it, now its' dead on. The trigger does get better the more you shoot it. The one ammo I have run into that mine WILL NOT feed is Magtech Guardian Golds 155gr, every other round into the feed ramp. Load it with 180gr and its a happy camper.

Taurus's new designs are all great, but their QC is still lacking, as is their customer service. I still think you're taking a gamble when you buy a Taurus. But, if you get a good one, you'll be very happy. Love my PT709.

Both QC and customer service are supposedly getting better at Taurus though, which is good, as they are coming out with great designs.

At issue at the range today makes me trust my life less to my PT709 than I previously did. I dropped a mag in the dirt. Wiped it off, slapped it in, shot a few rounds. Then the follower got caught on some sand in the mag and would not feed a round into the chamber :nosad:
