Ordered a progressive press finally.

Just curious is it economical to reload 7.62x39?
IF I could still get cheap steel cased import I would say no. But I can't so my option is buy brass cased factory or load my own. Like @CoalCrackerAl I can load it for about 30 cents vs. buying it for 70 cents.

So for me it is economical. But then so is .223

The powder hopper is cracked. It has a vertical and a star crack. It's also frosted not glass clear. Are the cracks a concern? Or should i call Hornady?
I can't even imagine that as the hopper is plastic.

I'd call Hornady if I wanted a replacement. Personally, I've replaced my plastic one with a Pyrex one from Dramworx, but you should have afunctional hopper when it comes out of the box

Crap I bought over 1000 of the steel case rounds (wolf made in Ukraine) years ago and ain't shot em all. Didn't think about the current state of things. Probably is the best option now

I see you had a cracked hopper. Mine seriously discolored and then cracked. I highly recommend the$50 to purchase the Pyrex upgrade from dramworx. Worth every penny

I have WD 40 dry lube. I use it on the rams and inside my dies after i clean them.

My experience with press lubes:

I lubed the ram on a RCBS Jr press with Mobil One and put this press in storage for a year. When I had the need to use this press again the ram was locked up solid. The oil had hardened to varnish. Took a lot of Kroil, some heat, and some serious beating with a nylon hammer to free it up.
On my press rams I only use gun oil now. For grease I use Kubota tractor grease (what I have on hand). Grease seems to be a little bit more forgiving than oil.

How the feel and quality? plasticky or solid metal? very interested!
Solid as a rock. Only plastic part is on top for the primer drop tube. And the handle ball. It ain't no Lee with all their plastic. I dropped it on my foot too lol. I'll be feeling tomorrow. I did play around with some too. One thing i need to figure out is why it eject casings on to the shell plate. I didn't load just ran some casings around. And then tried a loaded round to see how it ejects. Same thing.

If you are going from a single stage/turret to a progressive for the first time all the stuff that's going on the same time can be a bit confusing. One step at a time, slowly, until you get a rhythm.

Can’t wait for a honest option in the priming system

The priming system on mine works great. I would suggest that Coal Craker doesn't mess with his until he tries it. If he has problems then come back here and ask. Mine was good right out of the box and I've been using it ever since.
He shouldn't have any problems. You just have to keep the dirt, tumbling media, and what not blown out from in front of the sled. I check mine about every 400 rounds, And not forget to put the follower in.
As long as he doesn't try to prime crimped brass on it.

There are too many times that people get to screwing with their timing and get into priming problems, and blame it on the priming system, or don't clean it. Tumbling media is going to find it's way in there if you use a dry tumbler, so will powder and just plain dirt.

I have a Hornady L-N-L, an RCBS Pro 2000, and a Dillon SBD and the priming system on all three are the weak link on each.

Now, maybe it is my intolerance to trying to get them to work but I prefer to clean cases between sizing and reloading. Then priming cases off the press is not a big issue for me.

I do most of my resizing of cases on the Hornady., I like the die set up and processing the cases go quick as I do not have to pay close attention to some steps as when I'm actually reloading cases. The cases get cleaned after resizing and then stored for a future reloading session. Later, when I'm loading the cases, I do not have to divert attention to the priming of the case as it is already done,.

Priming off the press gives me control over the priming process.

While cases are re-sized on the Hornady, some are reloaded on the RCBS or the Dillon SDB. Each has its advantages for various cartridges.

I have a Dillon SL900 shot shell loader and it is the only progressive that I prime on the press. The main difference between the SL900 and the metallic cartridge presses is I can see the presentation of the primer on the SL900 before it is seated.

It makes reloading a pleasurable hobby for me, other folks may have different opinions.

Anyway, the Hornady L-N-L is a great press.

There's really nothing wrong with the primer system if it's setup properly. Are small primer easier to seat yes, because their smaller.

The tool from Bragging Rights makes quick work of it.

I have a SDB and 550, both needed the same thing, to be setup properly.

People that have a negative opinion of a LNL, for the most have never owned one.

Love my SDB and debating on getting another or getting a full blown progressive. I have a Lee Pro 4000 for 9mm and that’s all it will ever do, and that took some work to get right and the cases must be primed and sized. But that’s a whole different story

What’s a Bragging Right Tools?

There is a mod to make the spring retainer drop out of the way earlier if needed. It was done mainly for the old wire ejector.

Two pics from the link. Many more there.
