To quote cz223
"If you had to limit your rifles to 3 calibers, small, medium and, large, what 3 would you pick.

Small= Varmint caliber up to coyote size animals. Let's keep the upper limit at 6mm/243 caliber

Medium= Deer sized game, coyotes etc. I think 308 should be the upper limit here.

Large= Animals up to and including Elk and Moose and Bear. Lets stick to calibers for animals in the US/canada. Not looking for elephant guns here.":)

Enjoyed the other thread so much I thought I start this one
Same choices
.222 Remington in Mod 7 Remington
7mm-08 in Remington Mod. 7
.35 Whalen in Rem Mod 700 Classic

Small - .22-250 super accurate, kills better than its supposed to.
A Cooper would be nice.

Med - .30-06 in an original unfooled with, mint condition, 1903 Springfield.
100+yrs of sterling service to American shooters.
Good enough for Sgt. Woodfill and Corp. York is plenty good with me!

Large - .375H&H Mag. A Rigby Best Quality mauser would do just fine.
The old .375 will punch anything on this continent with power to spare.

.22lr
7.62x39
7.62x51

There are "better" cartridges in each category, but these three are more plentiful and less expensive than others in their respective classes.

Well, I only have 3 different rifle calibers in my "collection":

.22LR
.30-.30
.243

I'll be adding .30-06 soon.

From my collection? Well, I'm kind of screwed there...right now I've only got a .22LR.

My ideal?

.22LR
.308 Win/7.62x51mm or .30-06 Springfield
.45-70

Right now I'm looking at getting either a .308 or a .30-06 rifle, maybe within the next couple of days if I decide to do it sooner rather than later (otherwise I might wait a few months).

again with 22lr and 30-06 from me but the 06 covers medium and large(and larger small game). As for a third choice that would also cover all three I am thinking 20ga.I don't see the need for something between 22lr and 30-06 but I do own a 223,243,and a 270.
