I think people are realizing that 5.56 ARs are overkill. The muzzle blast of a 16" upper is less than pleasant. Especially on a covered range. Absolutely so if having to shoot indoors.

My daughter and I used to go shooting at an indoor range. This guy running the counter put us between someone shooting 3" magnum 12 gauge and someone shooting an AR. We both had ear muffs over ear plugs but that was it for my daughter - she won't go to an indoor range anymore - period. So she only shoots now in the summer at outdoor ranges.

Figured this stuff out 25yrs ago. Back in my college days, I worked in a gun shop with an indoor range. I wouldn't even go in the rifle section if someone was shooting an AR or Mini-14 if I could avoid it. Yet the Marlin Camp 9 a buddy of mine used for popping rabbits was about equal to a .22Mag rifle for noise.

Well the range must have lost some business because when I went back (by myself), they had one section for rifles, shotguns and magnums and another section for all other calibers and 22LR rifles.

It is hard to tell on a YouTube recording, but firing the Ruger suppressed, the sound of the steel plate / gong was just about as loud as the the sound of the shot.

This reviewer also says that the Ruger is more quite than a suppressed 9mm AR.

.223 used to have the selling point in the 80s and 90s of penitrating soft armor, but with hard armor so ubiquitous nowadays, any nut job wearing armor that stops a 9mm will be wearing something that will stop a .223. So you now lug around a 338 Lapua everywhere or just say "screw it" and carry 9mm for both long gun/pistol and accept that an armored BG will require quite a few shots to nutralize.

Who is carrying around ar15's to neutralize bad guys with body armor?

Has Ruger announced any plans to release the PC Carbine with a wood stock? I'd love to buy one, but I'd prefer one in wood. I'm sure they'll offer one if the base model sells well enough, so I hope they sell all they can make :)

I'm probably going to buy one of these UAR's even though I belong to a club that has a 220 range. Most of the time I have the outdoor pistol range (50 yd) to myself and the rifle range gets busy most days. I see an opportunity here. :D

Do you think the people who have truck/trunk guns do so in case the squirrels go postal? BGs with body armor has been a legitimate concern for the last 30 years. Remember the North Hollywood shootout and the move toward 5.56 rifles after?

I do remember that. In fact I lived about 50-60 miles south when that happened.

No one I know, knew, or ever heard of, were concerned with guys with machine guns and body armor enough to up arm to 223 and carry it in the truck.

I went against the poll leaders and picked up a brand spankin' new CX4 in 9x19mm today. I really couldn't get past my wish to have a magazine that went up the pistol grip, so here I am.

I'm not sure how far down the grip on the Beretta extends versus the magwell for the Ruger but one of the reviewers did say that the Glock mag had a lot of wiggle to it, but it didn't affect reliability.

The 15 and 17 round mags don't extend past the grip of the 9mm CX4 at all. Below is a photo of one of the two included Beretta 92 15-round magazines in the gun. Of course, there are 20 and 30 round magazines available that stick out past the grip.

The main reason I wanted a magazine-in-the-grip carbine is because the gun can have an overall shorter length (muzzle to butt) while still having a 16" barrel. :)

If those fins on either side of the sights were removable I would have purchased the Beretta a long time ago.

Yep. I had to think long and hard about those Batman Ears. In fact, I put off buying a CX4 several years ago for several reasons and one of those reasons might have been those ears. But the fold down sights in those ears are pretty nifty in a gadget sort of way.

I'd even settle for wood appearing polymer in a gun like that, if it was done right. Hard to say what is done right until one sees it though. :)

I bet Ruger will release a FDE colored stock at some point. It could look really good.

I think the odds of Ruger creating a wooden stock and distributing it through Lipsey are probably better than the odds of Golden State wining the NBA championship again this year. But Ruger won't do it until they've sold a lot of the plastic models, and they'll probably throw something else tempting in there to get people to purchase it even if they already have the plastic version.

I just need to get that little red dot up about 3/8" higher. o_O

Well that certainly doesn't look like an AR.:D Modular? Wutzat?

I'm partial to Berettas. Toward the end of my clays competition days Beretta shotguns were all I used. Beretta builds the very best barrels in the business.

I'm a buyer, just not sure which one yet. I'll have to look at the CX4 for sure. Good choice.

Does it use 92 mags?

Chich,

Here I thought you liked good old 'Merican cooking and you done went and gone all Eye-talian on us!

I got to sat that Fien-stock is the best looking of the ban beater pistol grips ever (and the Fien-Stine beast IS at it again)

I gotta ask if it plays the Original Batman Movie opening bars every time you heft it. "Were does he get these toys!"

OK teasing aside........... neat-o keen-o blaster there Pard!

I like the way you posted the CX and PC over laid so folks can see the length difference. I got to say that stock does look Kewl and admit that the only reason I never bought a Hi Point was I could not find a reliable source of ATI's deformed clone of that stock for el cheapo carbine.

I do like to tease though, yesterday in traffic I came up behind a Glock o phile's pickem up truck and he had two decals about Glocks in his back window. Once we got onto the four lane I pulled up along side and when his lady rolled down the window at a light I yelled over "It's just Tupperware in a holster!" We exchanged good natured taunts while his lady and my daughter cowered in embarrassment. Fortunately his parting words were "Yeah I like 1911's, too."

See there is room for everyone in the shooting community even traitorous Texicans that go all Eye-talion on you in mid thread!

Sprinkle some parmigian on that thing and let us know how it shoots!

Interesting that the Ruger PCC is running away with the poll, despite the fact that it is not yet in full distribution and it's long term reliability is unknown at this point. Also not the best looking one in the group.

Lots of Ruger lovers with lots of blind faith? They have had some not so great offerings, like the overly expensive yet fairly inaccurate Mini-14. Maybe others I'm not aware of. I'd prefer not to be a beta tester, I'll wait for longer term results.

Nothing blind about my faith, I've had 2 Mini 14's for over 20 years now. Most dependable semi autos I own, and can hit anything I point them at. Ruger does pack about $200.00 worth of accessories with the rifle, so how is it overly expensive? Unless you guys just want everything handed to you.

Ya, and it took some time to figure out that the Marlin Camp Carbine buffers shattered over time. Sometimes it does take time to discover a design or materials problem.

I don't think people have "blind" faith in the Ruger PC Carbine. The Ruger Police Carbine had quite a following. There are still people today who have a Ruger PC9, the carbine runs like a champ and the owners love it. People are justified in believing that Ruger knows how to make a 9mm carbine, and they are justified in believing that Ruger will stand behind the product and fix any issues that do come up.

Right now there are at least 50 You-Tubers shooting the heck out of this carbine and when it warms up in the Northern parts of the U.S. there will be thousands of people shooting thousands of rounds through this carbine and making videos and posting reviews on gun forums. If there is a design flaw, the shooting community will discover it soon.
