Police Officers Indicted in New Orleans

LG; everyone always deserves benefit of the doubt. They had it, and then the truth came out.

And to preserve accuracy, I believe it was the California Highway Patrol that body slammed the old lady, and went door-to-door confiscating firearms. Don't remember other agencies, but they stand out in my mind. NOPD could have been doing it too, I don't know.

Lucky

The CHP body slammed the old lady, but ALL the LEO organizations AND military troops were seizing weapons. See the ABC News Video.

And the order came out of New Orleans government . . .

All agencies followed Mayor Nagins illegal order.

NOPD is a cesspool, but what of the other military and police units? I'm still waiting to hear of ANY agency or unit who balked at following the Mayors plainly illegal order. Even IF one could be found, they would be a slender minority. Wasn't the CHP suppossed to be an elite agency? What are they doing mugging little old ladies?

This tells me nearly everything I need to know about modern policing. They have destroyed whatever was left of their OWN reputation. Very dangerous business to have destroyed policing so thoroughly, but there it is.

As deplorable and despicable as the actions in NOLA were, it would be wrong to judge all police officers and national guardsmen by those actions.
Let's not do that.
There are many, many honorable officers of the law and military members who are just as appalled and angry as us, if not more so. An example.

I don't think anyone is saying that all police officers are bad, but the actions of law enforcement during Katrina, and the actions of the NOPD in particular, are the reasons why "cop bashing" threads even exist.

They even fired on rescue helicopters.

Several people have already pointed out that this isn't true. But ALL of us have our brains stuffed full of media disinfo of equal disutility. The initial spectacular but inaccurate reporting lives on long after the truth has been reported on page 24 and forgotten.

I think the only solution is to quit getting any "news" from TV.

Didn't they claim that Lance had tossed a gun in the river or something similar but never made any attempt to retrieve the weapon? That is why they identified him as the shooter? They had to chase him down after he finally let go of his brother. I'm not sure how they have video of the arrest of Lance but none of the gun battle that led up to it.

Furthermore, there are no pictures of the gun battle zone that I am aware of showing casings or ditched firearms behind the barrier that was being used as cover to "attack" the officers. Certainly they would have had some pictures of evidence to back up their claims if they were actually being fired on. They have time for all the money shots of the arrest but none for evidence?

if

you read the testimony of the dead guys brother you'll see who was shooting. he describes who the nonpolice shooters were. i'd like to here more about the guy who pretended to be a cop
