There appears to be a correlation between powders which are imported, mostly from Canada but Australia too, and increasing prices for ALL powders. There was a lag last year in inflation for powders from Belgium and Canada versus Australia versus domestic, but there seems to be a flattening out or leveling taking place. Supplies are up - which is GREAT! - but so are prices and imports seem to be spiking now, too. Something to keep in mind when working up loads and advising new reloaders. They might not be able to get our old standby, preferred, never-fails powders.

I had picked up a pound of n135 at the beginning of the big event for 39.99. Today vhit powders are 79.99 at avery. I mostly recommend shooters world and ramshot powders now.
Roger that. Last few weeks before I recommend a load to a newbie I look around to make sure what I'm recommending is available, somewhere. It can't be nice to get thirty responses telling you to use Bullseye or Red Dot or ... [Brand X] only to find out its been unobtainium for almost two years. :(

I have seen the Belgian powders and some Canadian powders recently, along with VV and some of the Hodgchesters, but not much Alliant.

All powders are imported? I had no idea.

Prices today seem to depend on the powder and the seller. They show up but you have to be fast for the popular ones. Picked up an 8# of 2400 Friday from PV for not much more than it use to be considering.

Given the price hikes on domestically sourced powder, regardless if it is truly imported. It’s making me consider a permanent switch back to Vihtavuori if their pricing doesn’t jump astronomically.

I’m not buying $40/pound powder! nope! buying a guitar and finding a beach

You will if You buy in Mississippi. Powder is definitely available. I haven’t seen any below $40 in a long time except when I picked up 2 jugs of Universal for $32 a lb a couple weeks ago. They said that was the wrong price. After I showed them the sticker on the shelf they begrudgingly sold it to me for that. Then immediately pulled the sticker.

did mississippi become a communist state??? I can still find powder for $31-ish here in real communist seattle

For most handgun loads, powder is by far the lowest cost component. Bullet prices are getting crazy.
that’s why I’m making my own bullets! My brother told me to save up for the RCBS and skip the Lee 4-20 Pot!

Nah We are still Red Necks here. But the stores have followed suit with the markets. No problem walking in stores and finding powder and primers. But they are selling slow at the prices they are now asking.

I can understand if you need it for a weekend of fun. But at those prices, I’m not stocking up

Me either. I have enough powder, primers , brass and bullets on hand to last for years so that I don’t care what they ask for it
I will only buy if I see something at normal prices and I want to try a new powder or bullet. . Was at a Gun show a few weekends ago. Primers were $119-$199 a brick. No one bought any of them. Same at the stores
