i was reading a new article in shooting times magazine about remingtons new cartridge for the AR-15. dubbed the ".30 RAR". With some ingenious ingenuity, they took an AR-25 bolt carrier and modified it to work inside a propriatary upper to fit on the AR-15. this new cartidge falls short of .308 win performance but does eccede 30-30 performance.
the case is basically a .450 bushmaster (.284 win) necked down and trimmd. (specs can be found at shooting times website if you are really interested. it is a good read)
the cartridge is kinda like a 7.62x39 on major steroids. according to the magazine article...
125 grn. rem core-lokt PSP 2800 fps with a muzzle energy of 2176, 100 yard energy of 1686 and 967 lbs at 300. not to bad. the cartridge operates at 55,000 psi
here"s my question... in your opinion, would this cartridge be someting that you would by, or would you stick with the more tried and true varients.... like the 6.8 spc, or the .450 bushmaster, or the 458 socom.. so on so forth. just looking to get some feed back. it is cool though, that big companies are starting to really put a lot of money and R&D into this awsome rifle plateform.
thanks guys, brian
