Later this month I have to do some mostly solo long-distance driving.
In addition to my trusty pocket revolver, I've decided to pack a semiautomatic pistol in my bag. I guess in case I break down in the middle of nowhere.
The semiauto pistols I shoot the best are the full-sized metal ones, but I really don't want the pistol to weigh as much as everything else in the bag.
My pocket 9mm's and 380's and 32's and so forth are easier to carry along, but there's no reason to go super small, either.
In the end I chose the polymer CZ75 compact clone instead of my previous road pistol, the Glock 26. The SAR (clone) is a little longer in the barrel and grip, which doesn't matter, and it weighs about the same. It fits my hands better. I recall that I can shoot it about as well as my full-sized pistols.
I'll take it to the range this week and shoot it back to back with a full-sized pistol. If it does as well as I recall, it will go on the trip with me.
It has a nice OWB holster with extra mag pouch, if I wanted to carry it under a coat. Seems doubtful, but you never know.
Feel free to tell me that I should bring a _____ instead. I probably have something similar.
What do you take with you on your road trips?
A long gun seems a little unwieldy, so a high-capacity pistol is as far as I'm willing to go.
The SAR has a 13-round mag, nice trigger, nice sights. I bought it NiB a few years ago.
