Rimfire Leveraction Postal Match

As our friends from Balgowlah, New South Wales say, "Wallaby darned!!"

But, in all honesty, I have to ask, "Are you sure?" I kept a scanned copy of my target(s) and I don't see a group that could be smaller than the diameter of a bullet, CTC. How were the groups measured?

Even so, Mo, you can see why I wanted to use the second target sent over the first. Even though the center target wasn't as good, I did fairly well with the outer targets, that is, on the left side of the paper! The right side left something to be desired.

Mal, I'm purdy sure. You shot a dandy

Groups are measured outside to outside then deduct the diameter of the bullet = group size center to center. Yours measures .441 outside to outside at its widest point, minus .223 and I arrive at .218"

I'm not sure how well this will format but I'll give it a try

Congrats to the winners - that's mighty fine shooting! Thanks to all for making it fun and keeping it so close! Mo - nice job!

I would like to thank everyone who participated and Nem who cheered from the sidelines.

It was fun to mix in some Winchesters and a Henry (Quoheleth. KSYodeldog & SP) Though handicapped :p :neener: :D with inferior equipment you guys represented well. I hope you will continue to join us in our future matches.

Special recognition to Angus for braving the deep snow and finishing top three in everything, including two top spots, both Magnified and Non!

Mal upgraded a target that gave away the top spot for the center group and replaced it with another that won him the best average and best group for either class.

Fast Frank documented his challenges in this thread and still managed to post a top three target.

Shaky Jake sent in five excellent groups from .435" to .656" and was the only one to stay under 3/4" with every group.

Shootr sent in another very consistent target with four of the five ranging from .554-.687" and if it wasn't for two or three fliers he'd have nabbed more top spots. He had several enlarged hole groups with a "beauty mark" that expanded the group.

Yet another consistent performance was KSYodeldog's 39 entry. No bad bulls, all impressively clustered and centered on the bullseyes despite a right to left crosswind.

DJR is another one that dealt with time, weather and ammo issues. Based on his previous performances I'm sure we all got a little lucky he didn't get it all together at the same time. Even so he still managed the second smallest group in the Magnified class.

Applause and thank you to John for picking an excellent target and outlining the match. GREAT fun, excellent challenge and one I'd like to repeat in the future.

SP's Henry proved to be a very good shooter. They seem like a heck of a value and the Octagon barrel is VERY attractive. Had he not had an errant shot on his lower right target he would have grabbed another two podium spots...

One thing played out as expected was ammo that cost twice or more of bulk ammo took the top spots the average group size category. In my experience inexpensive ammo produces more fliers. This match reinforced my belief that paying more gets you more consistency

Mo, thanks for putting on another great shoot!

I'm shocked to see that the Eotech target was not at the bottom of the pile.

*Fast Frank Vows to make the scope work, or die trying.

Are we shooting our .30-30s now?:D

Ok, that makes perfect sense. I didn't measure it until a few minutes ago, I had just eyeballed it and it looked bigger than that. Thanks!

... to give the rest of us a chance he shot this while duct taped nekkid to the back of a running horse, both eyes closed and firing over his shoulder ...
Oh man! You promised not to tell my secrets! You're mostly right, but I wasn't completely nekkid - I didn't want to disgust old Misty, her being a mare and all.

Great match! Gave me an excuse and a push to shoot my rifle. Thanks for hosting it and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Thank you Mo for taking on the role of ringleader for this event. March seems to have been a pretty harsh month weatherwise across the country; I wonder how many more entries we might have seen if it were June, which is probably how long it will be before I see grass on my front yard!
This match gave me the opprotunity to get aquainted with my 39 and I found out that I like the factory buckhorn sights a little better than I thought I would, but I still would like to try a Williams peep sights and see if they work as well for me as they did for MalH. I'm looking foreward to the April shoot!

Does my heart good to see the results tallied. Congrats to all the fine shooters amongst us. I am in [strike]good[/strike] great company.

I would like to thank everyone who participated and Nem who cheered from the sidelines.
And I'm honored to receive a mention even without having submitted a target.

Mo, thanks so much for organizing this.

And I agree: where is Jag, our other organizer?

"Hello? Jag? You still with us, bro?"

Oh, by the way, I've got some American Eagle for sale... cheap ... :uhoh:

My poor neglected 39A deserves better food.

Nemo, take that cheap stuff out to some creek somewhere and bounce it off of some rocks or something.

It's still good for plinking, and Dr. Frank prescribes some plinking for you!;)

Hi all,

Mo, as I've said elsewhere and often, thank you for your leadership. Fun stuff like this wouldn't happen if it wasn't for guys like you.

Isn't this thread the highest of aspirations for THR? All we do is shoot, have fun, and make friends....

This is so fun I'm shopping around for a second 39A. That one will be the iron sights config so I won't spend so much time re-sighting the scoped one.

Mo has no idea what he just did opening up the side match for any pistol. :) Can anyone say Volquartsen small bore competition pistol?

Enjoy, shoot, and buy more ammo...

Dr. Frank is right Nem. A BIG box of ammo, a place and time to shoot and your 39 is what every boy needs It helps get the priorities back in focus.

Another thing I discovered is some of my most enjoyed outdoor moments were with the ingredients listed above and then the utterance of the words, "Black Bart, skedattle or prepare to meet your maker..."

A pile of empty cases later I was ready to take on the world.

Thanks for asking.

I haven't had much time to get out to the range and the one time I did, I got the ShakyJake counting syndrome where I put six rounds in one side, and four in another. I was hoping I'd get some more range time, but I couldn't work around some other problems.

In 2006 I was diagnosed with lymphoma and although I am in remission, I still get treatments every six months for maintenance. This match fell right on one of those six months cycles. I'm hoping the next one will see my return.

JAG

Jag, I'm sorry to read of your illness, but glad to read of the remission. Keep walking that road.

I'm sure I speak for everyone here in wishing you continued health and good shooting.

I've got a health book to recommend to you.
I'll PM it.

Nem

My God, I just got finished reading this and It apparent that you all are just having too much fun:) I'm sorry If I have Necro'd a thread, BUT it did say "you may post replies" SO----You are just DECADENT for this much fun.:p. I am still waiting to get the ejector for my old mod. 97. Now, I know that it is 2009, but when the part is here and she is ready to go, I'd like to see how I compare on these postal shoots.

by the way, I first signed up as the CantancerousCurmugon, but the data base couldn't find my email address and password (and yet It let me login 2-3 times--probably just so that I could find the link to my part:) ) so instead I just re-registered as the "GoofyGrump" and have not had any problems since then. Probably should have registered as the grumpycumugon--Oh well. thanks to Fast Frank and a couple of others whose names I can't remember so as to spell them right, I'll have the old girl shooting soon. God Bless you all.
