Rimfire Leveraction Postal Match

Well, I finally made it out to the range. It was 22 degrees when I got up but I think it was probably around 35 when I was doing the shooting. Tried to get out there before the wind came up but that was only partially successful.

To say the target is real ugly might be sugar coating it. I only shot magnified, didn't have the time or heart to pull the scope and shoot the irons. I suspect most of the unmagnified targets will beat this one.

Tried for some time to get the rifle to settle down with Green Tags as I had a lot of them. No dice. Tried some Rem. subsonics, Rem. Yellow Jackets, hmmm...what else? Something Winchester. Had my best luck with Wildcats again but I only had a very limited supply and they are not the same as the ones I shot for the Valentines shoot. In the end I shot the Shamrock target with Wildcats and Green Tags. :uhoh:

Now that I'm home I find another couple of boxes of Wildcats in the bottom of my range bag. :fire:

Not much else to say about it. The rifle never missed a beat. Had a terrific time shooting it and that's what I was really out there for.

I'll put this in the mail this afternoon although it would be easy to just pitch it and wait for the next match. That's not really playing the game though so off it goes.

Well said DJR. I agree, its less about winning than showing up and having fun. I'm glad you had the opportunity to join us.

One more weekend left to shoot riflemen! Have fun, be safe and good luck!

Well, despite my assertion that "hell or high water" I'd be in this one, I probably blew my last option to participate today.

Well, actually, I didn't blow it. Lack of progress on getting a wave of new clients in (to help with that rent issue) compounded by a client issue (can you say, "psycho"?) and a blue screen on the main studio computer ... well, suffice to say my week just got a lot tougher.

Too bad too: today, it was dry and even sunny. The next two promise not to be: new early spring snow storm on the way tomorrow.

Now, where'd I leave that rent check?

Mo,

My target is in the mail! Thanks for leading this one, again. Fun stuff like this wouldn't happen without guys like you.

Well John, if your target looked like mine you wouldn't be so anxious. :D:D:D

I have six entries for the Magnified and six for the non magnified. So far the usual suspects did very well... but not all the targets are in yet. I'll post the final results on Thursday evening (west Coast time) after the mail arrives as soon as I can get them all scored.

In the mean time I'll post the April Match rules ASAP (assuming nobody else has one they want to try. I was tempted to make everyone shoot Opposite handed (left instead of right if you shoot righty) for April Fools but decided it might limit participation.

Hmmm. Guess I could tell the wife I need another rifle, a left handed one. :D

Might be better if I didn't, I may have already used that one and she doesn't forget stuff like that.

I'm in Little Rock Arkansas on business, sitting out a semi- serious lightning storm right now.

Didn't get to shoot any more targets for this one.

I guess we'll have to see how the EOTECH target fares.

I'm still dedicated to the idea of making my scope work and shooting the next one.:neener:

I feel lucky to have entered 2 options on this match. I would have liked to shoot it with my Dad's Browning BL, but the weather pattern of March was reliably crappy at almost every opprotunity I was able to get out and shoot. Looking at the first week of April's weather up here in the Northeast, doesn't look all that promising either. The range I shoot at still has 3 1/2 feet of snow on it and climbing into the shooting bench arera is nothing less than treacherous. Anyway, I'm looking foreward to the next match; things have got to improve from here on out.

Teaser

As stated in the rules I'm giving shooters until April 3rd to get their targets in. We have a dozen on the book right now including former champions Mal, JohnMcl, DJR, Shakey Jake, Angus Lincoln and Fast Frank. Newcomers KSyodeldog and Quoheleth joined us were the first to submit targets for Winchesters. Shootr posted a strong entry with his 1953 vintage 39A too.

Will Shaky Jake's consistency prove that he is really "Steady Eddie?"

Can Fast Frank prevail despite sighting system issues and weather?

Will the man who shot in deep snow (Angus) rise above the rest?

Did the traveling man DJR post a good enough target with mixed ammo to stand atop the podium again?

What about the man who's idea hatched this match? JohnMcL, a proven performer and good guy who is a threat to win any match he enters. Where will he rank when the results are all in?

What about the inbound targets? Who might emerge? Will the 39's prevail? Does spending more on ammo equal better results?

Just a few more days until we all know. Thanks to all for their participation!

That is interesting, indeed! I'll bet the relatively short distance is a big factor and equalizer of iron vs glass. Go to 50 or 100 yards, and the glass should win by a mile, so to speak.

The next postal match should prove that theory.

Mal that is probably true. Another factor is that a certain administrator submitted a stellar target that brought the overall average down a bunch.. :D:p

When I began zeroing my newly attached scope, I noticed that my non magnified groups were often smaller,(at 25 yards). I made mental note of it and brushed it off as an interesting anomoly. Now that Mo has noticed the trend in his compiled data, I'm wondering why this is so. I was thinking it had more to do with 3 cups of coffee more than my usual one.
